Nevada To Legalize Marijuana?

Has anyone heard about this? What's your take on it?

Personally I think they should... It would be a government regulated depressant, you'd have to be 21 to buy it so therefore you get a product like alcohol, a government regulated drug. Marijuana has not yet even been proven to be worse than cigarettes, and it actually is better because it doesn't have the additives, and Marijuana is used to help cure glucoma patients as well as the lymph nodes of cancer patients. It actually helps slow down cancer cells. So therefore you get an inhibitor that is actually healthier than alcohol because everytime you get drunk you take in enough alcohol that it overloads your body and seeps into your bloodstream which is bad on your liver, and also kills brain cells. I believe that legalizing it would take the drug pushers off the street and lower the violent crime rate because prices in the stores would be lower than the street value and so drug pushers would be out of business and it would reduce the crime rate due to crimes commited. And also since it would be sold it would be counted as part of the countries GDP and would raise the value of the economy, instead of being classified in the "underground" economy where no money passes hands and it cannot have a positive effect on the economy like it would if it were sold. That's just my opinion...

A dangerous substances that is dangerous to inhale and warps and individual's judgement. People smoke it everyday...

But that's enough about cigarettes. We're hear to talk about marijuana.

First of all, I'm against smoking marijuana. I'm also against smoking cigarettes. However, I think that if they're going to keep cigarettes legal, they might as well legalize marijuana, too. No one's really told it's more harmful to your lungs, just that it messes with your judgement (you know, because cigarettes and alcohol have no impact on your judgement whatsoever... sarcasm)

So yeah. Besides, if it's legalized, the crime rate of Nevada would go down, as possessing it would no longer be a crime.

Nevada: the state that makes California jealous.

I'm straightedge and won't even touch the stuff, or anything else remotely like it... But at the same time, I know plenty of friends and family members that do it. Based on my experiences, alcohol is more likely to be abused or hurt a person than marajuana is. I don't get the whole fight against weed when there are worse things about that are actually legal.

Personally, I don't think they should legalize it. It's just common sense- drugs can kill. Of course, so can smoking and alcohol. Though pot? If they go through with this, soon they'll make steroids legal, then more, and soon all of them.

This legalization thing, if it happens, that means people will be allowed to smoke pot, most likely in public. That means they can get other people hooked on it, 'cause they think it's cool (as they do now). Soon you'll be walking down the street, and every second person you see will have a pot stick in their mouth. Not a very pleasent street to be walking down....

Though these are my views, as you asked. I could be over exagerating.

If they legalize it, then the police can go around catching real criminals :p

I think more time should be spent fighting stuff that is legal today, but is worse than weed and has more impact, like cigarettes, alcohol, or hentai.... :nervous:

I personally am against doing any type of drugs or drinking alcohol or anything of that sort that would later cause complications in my health, but if Nevada wants to legalize marijuana, let them. It just might cut down on the crime rate, as I've noticed that some homicides (or most, depending on where you live, like where I do) revolve around drug deals gone bad. It really doesn't matter if they legalize it or not, though, because people will just keep doing it anyway...

i would love to see the herb de-criminalized.
im not sorry to say this either, but, breaking up families for non-violent crimes that have nothing to do with property is just rediculus.
im glad to see the boards semi-acceptant of this idea, but i must say that violent crime rates would not really change (go down) with de-crim. of pot. (well maybe spousal abuse would go down, when was the last time some one smoked a joint and beat their wife)
any way. im down for it and if it does happen, i think im gonna have to think about moving.
of course one problem exist. that would be how the fed. gov. wouldnt respect this law and more then likely they would do the same thing they do with states that made the stuff legal for medical use; they go in with the fbi and by pass local authorities and charge the people for federal crimes and leave the state out of it all together.
oh well, maybe the government will just have to start thinking about this stuff. and in closing i have a qoute.
"marijuana doesnt make you paranoid, police officers hunting you down for non-violent crimes makes you paranoid"

Marijuana may not have the addictive element that cigarettes do, but the chemicals inhaled are about ten times worse then that of cigarettes. I don't really care if they legalize it or not. I won't really change anything.

i don't really see the problem as long as they regulate it like alcohol.

be of age, don't do it in public, don't drive while impaired, etc.

plus, it would put a lot of dealers out of business. i think the legal aspects are going to be focused on, rather than health issues, if this debate ever sees any real fruition in congress.

Legalise marijuana, outlaw tobacco products and alcohol. Or perhaps just tobacco. Healthier society, but hey - that's not what they care about. They care about money, money to be made, money to be spent. All government decisions will be based on the welfare of companies, executives, commerce, consumerism and TRADE.

Who cares about cancer? Cancer pays, and that's unfortunately the bottom line.

I hate cigarettes. Several memebers of my family, friends, friends' families and families' friends have died from smoking induced cancer. Sure, one in two hunderd and fifty or so people have an adverse reaction to marijuana, but my mother is a severe alcoholic. Alcoholism is so widespread that it is ignored.

I view marijuana as a healthier alternative. Inhaling anything other than air into your lungs is unhealthy, but at least the weed is mainly untreated, chemical free.

But of course, if money is going to be made from it, it has to be controlled. And the main reason it hasn't been legalised is because you can grow your own.

I do.

No point in legalizing marijuana. The fact is, if you legalize it, more people will use it. And that is not good.

Marijuana is much more dangerous than tabacco, also. It not only creates the physical defects that tabacco is known for, but it also creates long term mental/psychological problems.

I don't agree with the punishment of people who are actually smoking it...but people who are dealing it should be charged with the full weight of the law.

If cigarettes and alcohol were illegal these days...do you think they'd become legal? Of course not. We are now fully aware of the problems that these drugs produce in society.

Thinking that marijuana is somehow "less harmful" is blatantly ignoring the facts about the drug. It's far more harmful than many alternatives out there (if you do not use it in appropriate moderation).

The simple fact is...if we legalize a drug, more people will use it. It will be more accessible than ever before. I certainly couldn't justify that.

But anyway, we've only just had this topic. Please try not to repeat topics so soon. :)
