Ryan glanced down at the vent, then back at Liam and Craig.

Ryan: "We're coming, just give us a few minutes..."

Liam: "Alright, but hurry up."

Siren and Ryan each began to unscrew the bolts that held the ventilation grate in place. Once all the bolts were out the silently slid it out of the way. Then they each pulled out grenades, pulled the pins and dropped them into the control room below.

There were a few shouts and screams, and then a huge explosion rocked the bunker, followed by several secondary explosions.

Ryan: "Ladies first."

Siren: "Shut up."

She jumped out of the ventilation shaft and landed catlike in the midst of the ruined control room. Ryan came down after her and was amazed by what he saw.

Mangled computers lined the walls and dead technicians were everywhere. The floor was covered in blood mixed with blackened circuitry.

Siren: "Lets go, there's nothing here."

Ryan: "Look at that..."

She turned to see what he was staring at. On the far wall, untouched by the explosion was a flat screen TV that was hooked to a computer.

The screen showed a map of the world, and black dots were scattered all over. The black dots on the screen are labeled in a language Ryan doesn't recognize...

Siren: "I'll download the hard drive."

Ryan: "But Liam already di-"

Siren: "Are you blind? This computer isn't hooked up to anything except the TV, probably for a reason. Someone didn't want this information accessed by anyone, not even his troops. It's worth getting."

Ryan: "Ok, but hurry up, I don't want to be here when Adam's bombers show up."

Siren quickly copied the hard drive onto her laptop and they jogged out of the base...

In the meantime...at least half an hour had passed. When Liam and the others reapeared next to the hummer, Liam almost dropped his laptop. There were Rae and Jaudiar, happy as clams, painting their nails. Jaudiar, through some weird flexibility skill, had both feet up on the dashboard, black nailpolish in evidence. Rae was leaning back one leg crossed, the other resting on the steering wheel.

Jaudiar: You people sure took your time.

Liam: What was this??!?!? A girl party?!?

Rae: No, it was us, the "lucky" people, waiting for Mr. Excitement and Co. to come back and get us to real beds with real running water.

Jaudiar: And something about real food....?

Liam: Oh hell, let's just go.

Rae: Where's Siren?

Siren: "Ryan and I are right here Rae."

Liam and Craig turn around to see Ryan and Siren jogging towards them.

Liam: "About time you showed up."

Ryan: "We found a computer with some interesting information, and it wasn't hooked up to the bunker main computer."

Liam: "Good. Now that we're all here lets get back to the pickup point."

The agents piled into the remaining hummer and began there long drive through the sea of sand dunes towards the pickup point.

Ryan sat in the back of the hummer, cleaning his sniper rifle. He hadn't even used it... But, there were plenty of other missions in which he could act as the sniper. His two specialties, when combined proved deadly and discouraging to any opponent.

He had cleaned the rifle and was just about to replace the sights on top when the hummer stopped at the pickup point.

Ryan looked around, nobody was here yet. He checked his watch, and found that they were fifteen minutes early.

He got out of the hummer and sat against one of its wheels, letting the hot sun warm his face as he waited...

Liam drummed his fingers on the side of the hummer and checked out the GPS on the mobile phone. Nothing in any direction other then massive flats of sand. Must be why extraction chose this spot, perfect runway for a Hercules.

Minutes later a small blip appeared on the screen, aircraft details appeared and Adam?s voice crackled over the headphones.

?So is the location safe down there or what? Everyone out??

Liam sighed. ?It?s safe Adam, quiet as the proverbial grave. Now get your arse down here and get us out of here. Some of us are wanting creature comforts.? Liam rolled his eyes when he said this and glanced down at the GPS again.

?Adam, is that the air strike approaching from the East?? he asked.

?Yup, those are our guys.?

?Then the ones approaching from the south would be...??

?Ah...that might be a problem...?

OOC: Sorry guys that I've been gone so long, I think I might be able to add something to the story soon though.

Fifteen minutes later, the plane arrived. They loaded up the remaining hummer and hopped in. Iitashi walked over to Ryan who was holding his sniper rifle, with a dissapointed look on his face.

Iitashi: "I didn't get to use mine either. But don't worry, we will be able to soon."

Iitashi walked back to his seat and checked his sniper rifle.

Rae and Jaudiar moaned at the exact same time and slumped back in their seats. The elder reached into her bag and pulled out her socks.

Jaudiar: I think I'm going to cry......:demon:

Liam: How long were you in the field?

Jaudiar: A lot longer than you....that's for sure. *clamps on boots* And now...I'll be getting that shower in another week...

Siren: Oh, lovely......

Rae: Gross.

Ryan: No it's not.

Jaudiar: Enough about me.

Rae stood up and stretched.

"Liam," she asked. "How long 'till that place gets bombed?"

"About two minutes."

She groaned. "Dammit! I need to pee."

Jaudiar grinned. "I'd suggest going behind a bush, but," she looked around at the bush-less surroundings. "There aren't any."

Rae glared as the others snickered. "Fine. I'll wait. At least until the whole air raid thing is over." She stomped away, paused, walked back, grabbed her guns and stomped away again. The group heard the faint sounds of the childhood song, "The Ants Go Marching Two by Two," eminating from Rae. She hesitated, then walked back, muttering under her breath.

"I thought you were going." Siren remarked.

"I can't," Rae grumbled. "There's an air raid going on!" She sighed and sat back down. "Wake me up when I'm in danger or when we get real food, okay?"

Ryan sat dejectedly in his seat on the pickup plane, stroking his rifle with a deadly look in his eyes.

He couldn't believe it, how could he have missed it? Itashi also been issued a sniper rifle, and had been issued it after he had been issued his...

Ryan *Muttering*: "Adam must not think I am good enough, sends someone else with the exact same team position. Nobody else needs "help"... He doesn't trust me... It's not fair..."

Ryan looked venomously at Itashi as he (Ryan) got up and retrieved his backpack from the Hummer, which was parked right outside the helicopter. He opened it and pulled his sleek laptop from its bulletproof casing. Then he climbed the steel ladder back to the passenger compartment.

He turned it on and called over to Siren...

Ryan: "Siren, where's your laptop? I want to see the data we stole."

Siren: "My laptop is in my bag on the hummer, get it yourself."

Ryan: "Fine, if you want me searching through your stuff to find it that's ok with me..."

Siren: "Ha, ha. That was so funny. I'll get it myself."

He grinned and watched her disappear through the helicopter's doorway. He needed something to take his mind of Itashi...

Jaudiar twisted her hair between her fingers, then pulled it back in a tight ponytail....letting a few strands wisp down from her neck...then she pulled out another daggar and began to polish the sides, humming a soft tune....composed of simple phrases that ran together like poetry...

Rae: *yawn* Wha' is that?

Jaudiar: The leaves have fallen, like dew to the pasture, and we are falling....falling still. It's an old rhyme our people pased down. It's taught to all the children.....but now it has new meanning...

Siren: Depressing.

Jaudiar: Our past isn't pleasant. There are twenty more verses, but I don't like to speak them.

Liam listened to the thunderous roar in the distance. Good. One less monstrosity in the world. He sighed with smug satisfaction curling his lips. He raised the GPS again to see the Carpet Bombers split and veer off as another squad of unidentified aircraft flew through them.

?Bugger.? He muttered to himself. ?We might be here for longer than expected. The airspace isn?t safe, and doesn?t look like it will be for a long time.?

He sighed and walked into the cabin of the Hercules, intent on asking the pilot the departure time.

?Bah, bloody Adam sending us into a hot zone like- the pilot cut his sentence short and looked up when Liam crossed the threshold, ?Uh yes??

?When do we leave??

The pilot cleared his throat, ?Not until the conflict is over buddy. So don?t expect us to be leaving anytime soon.?

Liam groaned. ?Ok, rough estimate then??

?Dunno,? the pilot turned to his co pilot, ?how about you? Any ideas??

The co pilot checked the GPS and scratched his chin, ?Either tomorrow, or sometime next week. All depends on how many resources the government is willing to spend on us.?

Liam groaned, ?Thankyou gentlemen. One thing I need to make clear though, if we don?t leave tomorrow, I will throw you outta this plane and fly us out myself. I don?t care if there is conflict going on! We have parachutes for all and lots and lots of guns! Clear yet? We leave tomorrow, I don?t care where we?re going as long as it?s away from here. Got it??

Liam left and slammed the door behind him. Bah, this place was boring him, besides, that nagging dream and feeling was growing stronger.

Rae slumbered quietly, unwilling to wake, even to the sounds of Jaudiar singing....several hours later, both were flat out on their backs, mouths open, as if they were expecting rain.

Siren: Wake up!

Jaudiar: Salut. What's wrong?

Siren: Nothing.

Rae: .....hummmm?

Jaudiar: Nothing, go back to bed Rae. And dream of chocolate fudge.

Rae: ..

Siren: Chocolate fudge?

Jaudiar: Better than Pineapple flavored Fanta.

At the mention of Pineapple Fanta, Rae twitched and sat up. "Thanks Jaudiar."

Jaudiar grinned. "Now look what you've done Siren. Made me mention Pinneapple flavoured Fanta."

A stupid look came over Rae's face. "Chocolate fudge."

Siren snorted. "Took you that long to register it?"

"I was half asleep," she pretested, in mock hurt. A voice came in over the headset. You're always half asleep, Rae. Rae sat bolt upright. "Adam?"

No, Rae. It's Santa Claus.

"Funny."

Jaudiar looked at her quizzically. "Who is it?"

"My brother.Adam."

"The one Liam doesn't like," Called Siren, who'd walked over to the bags to get another drink.

"What does he want?"

"I don't know." I heard you Rae. I'm coming to see the team. I've got to tell you something.

"Liam," Rae called. "Adam's coming. Something about...erm...something."

Liam woke up, and rapidly began grumbling. He yawned and stretched out his arms, ignoring the grating sound of several vertebrae snapping back into place.

?Hate to see an x-ray of my wear and tear when I?m sixty...if I live that long...? He yawned again and stood, wandering over to the girls, in the process putting on his shoulder holster and headset.

?What the hell do you want A...a...a...Adam,? he stuttered, mid yawn. ?There better be a good reason why you inadvertently woke me up and caused me to even more want to blast a cap into your ***.?

Rae motioned to the semi-conscious Liam that his headset wasn?t actually on...Siren and Jaudiar stifled snorts of laughter that crept up their throats.

?Wha? Oh I see, thankyou.? Liam sighed and flicked his headset on, instantly barking into it, ?Adam this better be bloody important.?

Adam, on the other end of the line smirked, ?No reason to get your knickers in a knot Liam,? Liam on the ground started to turn a violent shade of red, ?I?ll be there with a helicopter squad in no time. It?s too dangerous to fly the Hercules as planned, so the best thing to do is airlift you guys out and take you to the nearby Air base.?

By now all the team members had woken up and put on their headsets, grins were split all round, most of them were very tired of the freezing night time sand, sand in their food, sand in their ears. Well basically just the sand really...

Rae grinned and stalked towards Adam. He took one look at her, and a horrified expression came over his face.
"Adam," she said quietly.

He started to back away. "No, Rae."

"But you don't know what I want yet."

"What do you want then?"

"Shampoo. And a bed. And clothes. And food. And..." Rae whirled around to face Jaudiar. "Do I want anything else?"

"A toilet."

"Yes! And a toilet."

"And drinks"

"And drinks."

"And sunglasses."

"And sungl - why do I want sunglasses?"

Jaudiar shrugged. "I dunno...I couldn't think of anything else."

"Okay then."

Adam shrugged. "Just shut up Adara. You'll get it when you go to the base."

"Okay." She sat down again. A tune ran through her mind We're off to see the wizard, the wonderful wizard of oz... Rae giggled. "I don't think we're in Kansas anymore Toto...Damn i hate that movie."

Adam just shook his head as Jaudiar sat next to Rae. "You're insane, Adara."

"Rae."

"What?"

"Rae's better. People get confused if you call me Adara."

"Okay then, Rae."

"Good."

"Good."

"I hate that word!" Rae turned to Jaudiar. "So why are you 500?"

OOC: Wow, a whole heap of nothingness...great one deary...

Craig sat silently on the sand outside the Hercules, watching the sky, his Remington at his side, his Magnum Revolver in it's holster. He was watching the scorpion next to him with some amusement, as it tried to figure out a way to get by his shotgun. Instead of just walking around, it has been trying to climg over the thing for nearly 15 minutes. Craig finally decided to pick the scorpion up, and placed it gently on the other side of the shotgun. Then he took out his water canteen, and took a long swig.

Craig: Time for some rest I suppose.

Craig slowly climbed to his feet, and slid open the cargo door to the Hercules. He grabbed his Remington, and climbed silently in, shutting the door behind him. He looked down towards the front of the hold, where the rest of the group were. For the first time on record, he decided to go and join them, instead of sleeping solitarily in a corner.

Siren: *snort*

Niomi: (mumble) E-mail.....siren.....stuff......enormous....send!

Niomi closes her laptop and finds someone standing of her. Aiming a gun at her.

Niomi: i knew it to good to be true.

She took her lap top and shmashed it.

???: come with me.

She grins.

Niomi: whatever.

Siren glances at the screen as it beeps... Another message... First one from the school, then five from assorted annoying people... She ignored it and opened up the info that Ryan had requested to see... She locked him out of the rest of her files and passed it over to him...

Siren: Just don't try to hack into my other files... I'd have to kick your azz if ya did...

She winked and stood glancing at the sleeping figures of her friends... She tilted her head slightly, attempting to recall when she began to refer to them as "friends"... They had always been "the others" before... She sighed and turned, walking away and letting her thoughts wander... She diden't mind the desert or the lack of comforts... She had never bothered with them in the first place... She liked the way the sand shifted in the winds... She climbed a dune and sat, her back to the others as she watched the nothingness for as far as she could see... She sighed... The sands at night reminded her of her life...

Siren: Shifting sands of the deserts cold and comfortless... Watching time pass away into it's depths...

The elder stood up and silently padded over the desert sands to where Siren was sitting...contemplating both death and life.

Jaudiar: The night wind revolves in the sky and sings.
To hear the immense night,
Still more immense without her,
And the verse falls to the soul like dew to the pasture,
Tonight I can write the sadest lines,
The saddest lines about her.

Siren: ...Where did you learn that song? I've heard it before.

Jaudiar: It's a variant of the old songs. We call it Puedo Escribir. Because it was written by another before we discovered it.

Siren: Can you teach me?

Jaudiar: Of course. We have plenty of time.

Liam flopped down on the sand, somewhat exhausted by the day?s events. A few metres away he noticed Adam walking steadily towards the squad of inactive helicopters. He pondered for a second or two, glancing at the sand clod near his boot and the moving Adam. After thinking about the required force and angle, he leant forward and snatched the cool, hard lump of sand.

?Adam! I have a question for you!? He shouted. Adam grudgingly stopped and faced Liam, mouth opening to send a stinging reply, only to find itself filled with rather foul tasting earth. He spluttered, and coughed, providing much amusement for Liam as he shook his head, gagging.

Liam sighed contentedly and lay flat on his back, head resting on a rudimentary pillow of sand. Above him the bright stars winked down, leaving him feeling rather sentimental. Adam stomped over to him, having finished scraping the grit from his tongue.

?What is it?? he snapped

Liam looked up innocently, ?Can you tuck me in? I feel ever so frightened out here alone, in the dark and all the werewolves out and about...?

Adam seethed and swung his foot to land a mighty blow, Liam bolted upright and caught it, twisting it painfully. Adam winced and suppressed a yelp of pain. Liam let go of the foot and whispered,

?Just keeping you on your toes Adam, just keeping you on your toes...?

Rae watched the event with a snort of laughter, and a glare at Liam. He really should control himself. Rae shuddered with horror. She was acting like Adam! She'd been hanging around him way too long.

She padded over to Liam and Adam in time to hear Liams say, "Just keeping you on your toes, Adam, just keeping you on your toes..." Smirking, trying to keep the laughter off her face, Rae bypassed the two and kept walking foward, in the direction of the now-bombed base. Whistling to herself the song about the man and the lady, she entered the remains.

Everything was black. Scorched from the bomb. It was funny, really, how much destruction could be done. Rae wondered through the building, finally stopping at a door, or rather, trapdoor. She pulled it open. It was a bomb shelter. Inside was computor equipment, monitors and radios. So this was how the enemy's air strike had been called. Sitting down at a desk, Rae typed in a few letters on a keypad. They were using the basic "Narse" Keycode. After typing in three letters; K. C. A., the computor let her in. A message had been sent 15 minutes before their team had even gotten there. Rae called up the contents.

"Air strike one, be ready in twenty minutes."

It wasn't exactly professional Rae thought. Usually militia tried to immitate the Army, but these people didn't.

She cursed. She didn't have her laptop here. Well, She though. I guess I'll have to do this the hard way.Rae called up all the information the C drive, and started memorising every detail.

Niomi pops out a hidden dagger from her wrist and shoves it towards the mans chest, he dodged but She quickly recovered and hit a presure point to knock him out.

Niomi: Now that that's over.

She hops into her hole and grabs some supplies.

Niomi: now to get rid of the eveidnce

she lights some TNT, and walks away carelessly. She watches as the man wakes up in time to watch and feel the explosion. She grins as she knows she also lit a signal in the sky at the same time.
