Jaudiar emerged from the shower, hair dripping all over the place.....contacts smarting.

Craig: What happened to you?

Jaudiar: We're out of hot water.

She ignored the horrified look on his face and retreated into the room to change properly. Jean flares, black spaghettie strap, four hairpins, and the usual black boots.....Siren looked up from her dish of noodles.

Jaudiar: Something wrong?

Siren: So that's the color of your skin...

Jaudiar: White?

Siren: Couldn't tell under that layer of dirt.

Jaudiar: It's a genetic thing, even if I am mostly Chinese....

Liam stalked into the room and raided the freezer....the look on his face spoke volumes to the two girls......Jaudiar sat down and brought out her card deck....shuffling lazily...

Jaudiar: Is there something wrong Liam?

Liam: It's nothing. Leave me alone.

Jaudiar/Siren: ....of course.

Siren watched him closely... His movements betrayed him... He slammed the freezer door and walked out of the room...

Siren: I'm worried about him... Something?s happened... I'm gonna go find Adam...

She stood and slipped through the door, and through the shadowed barracks and behind Adam...

Siren: What did you tell him?

Adam whirled and opened his mouth to deny everything until he saw genuine concern in her eyes... He sighed and looked her in the eyes, not an easy feat... Anger radiated from Siren, the set of her mouth booked no argument... If she hadn?t been so mad, Siren would have noted that Adam was much more intelligent then most of the SYF gave him credit for... He sighed again and looked away...

Adam: Siren... I can't tell you... If Liam wants you to know he'll tell you...

In the blink of an eye Siren brought her 9mm to his forehead...

Siren: Dam.nit Adam!! Tell me...

Adam gazed at her calmly then brushed the gun away... It snapped back up...

Adam: I know you won't kill me Siren... You?re quite the young actress, but not everyone is blinded by your badazs attitude and actions...

He turned and began packing away his laptop... He glanced over his shoulder at her... Siren stared at him... Her tone of voice reveled feelings she had long considered herself incapable of possessing...

Siren: How much do you know...

He turned to look at her...

Adam: I know everything... Ariana... I know the things you don't... I know your past...

Siren dropped the gun with a clatter and backed up several steps... This wasn?t what she had expected to hear... She had thought she would have been able to bully Adam into telling her whatever she wanted to know... Now the tables were turned... For only the second time in her life, Siren turned tail and ran... She scaled the wall quickly and climbed to the highest point in the complex... Tears streamed down her face and she shivered... How could he know... It was impossible... She had covered her tracks expertly... She wiped her face and her heart hardened... It had been an accident... Their deaths weren't her fault... She had killed Ariana along with the rest of her past long ago... She refused to let the ghosts haunt her... Siren stood and the compassionate part of her she had harbored for years, letting it show every once in a while... She looked over the events of the last few weeks... She had let it blossom and thrive... She had made friends... Those friends were liabilities now... Ruthlessly she choked off her feelings, leaving a cold void of nothingness in place of her soul... Her heart froze over, leaving only a flickering flame of hope buried beneath stone and ice... Siren returned to the room where the others lounged about? She moved to the corner and watched as Jaudiar gave her a curious look... Siren returned it with cold, dead stare...

OOC: Ohh...so thats the other surprize you were talking about...

________

Rae finished her icecream, then went to her room, gathered her clothes, and continued to the showers. Surprizingly, nobody was there. Shrugging, she figured that they'd probably finished their shower.

Not bothering to check the temperature, she jumped in and turned it on. Her shriek could be heard in the cafeteria. Jaudiar smirked. "I think Rae just discovered the water problem..."

Rae emerged half an hour later, almost blue. She was dressed in a black top and jeans, and was carrying with her a small book. Her hair was wet, and poured down her back in a brown, tangled mess. Walking into the dining room, she noticed Siren staring at her. Siren's whole demeanor was different. And Liam...Liam wasn't rihgt either. Something was going on.

She found Adam in the computor intelligence room. "What happened?"

"What do you mean?"

"Don't play stupid with me, Adam. You're my brother. I know your not stupid."

"Nobody else does."

Rae looked at him closely. There was a lot of hurt in those eyes. Liam had really gotten to him. She sat down next to him. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing's working out right. Its as if they know our every move before we make it. And I've just found out why."

"Why?"

"This is confidential, Rae."

"I didn't tell anyone anything else."

"Okay." Adam looked around, checking for eavesdroppers. There was no one there no one could find out what he was going to tell her. "Liam's sister..."

"Jess..."

"Yes, Jess." Adam didn't ask how she knew. She'd hacked into the computors. "She's switched."

"She's an enemy?" Adam nodded.

"Okay, that explains why Liams ****ing angry now...but why Siren."

"Siren isn't angry. Siren's scared."

"Why?"

"She found out that I know about her past."

"As Ariana?"

"Yes."

"But...we said we'd never let on, Adam. The files were destroyed, even my hard copies are gone. And it wasn't her fault! I thought we knew that!"

"We never really confirmed it."

"Adam! God! Yes, we worked as enemies of the country for a while when we thought it was fine...but we don't need to do anything else...we made up for it...I got rid of my milita training, I don't use it anymore... and you went to the SYF people and enrolled me, and Matt, and you join the SAS. Our parents never found out, thank god. Matt died for his country. Why did you bring it up now?"

"I'm sorry Rae. I was sick of catering to little gun-happy brats."

"okay, Adam. Okay. I'll...I'll work it out." Rae left, casting a worried glance at Adam as she did.

Walking back into the dining room, she went and sat next to Jaudiar. "Wow, some atmosphere we got going here...hostile from all four courners. Well, two, but it's enough to cover four corners."

"Yup," Jaudiar agreed, flipping a card over. "If I wasn't going to be shot almost the minute I stepped outside the entrance, I'd leave."

"Wanna play blackjack?"

"Okay." Rae flickered her eyes up to Siren, then over to Liam, and back to the game. There was nothing she could do right now.

Jaudiar shuffled and dealt.....19. 17. 20.

Several games later, she stopped, put away the deck and stood up. Rae followed suit, and the two left for the balcony. ....once they were out of earshot, both collapsed to the railing.

Rae: ....god.

Jaudiar: The tension in there was so strong....it was like being caught in a thunderstorm.

Rae: *sigh* Are you sure you don't have any other dark secrets to tell us Jaudiar?

Jaudiar: ....nothing yet. I used to be a professional assasin, considering I'm really 24...not 17. And I killed alot of people, but it was my job. I never asked questions. And when I was done, they told me good job. Paid me, and left. So I joined the SYF under my real name, instead of my other name.

Rae: And what was that?

Jaudiar: Hellcat.

Rae: ....I've heard of her before.

Jaudiar: Hellcat got her nails clipped....

***FLASHBACK***

"Hellcat got her nails clipped," Adam announced as soon as they were alone. Rae was eleven, only old enough to kill, not old enough to be privy to information.

"That's nice."

"Adara..."

"Listen, you can't call me that here...I am Icicle, or Icy. It isn't safe."

"It should be."

"It isn't. And I'm sick of it. I want out."

He sighed and lent against the wall. "I'll get you out, Icy. But the big bads don't like it."

"**** them."

***END FLASHBACK***

"You're Hellcat?"

"I just said so..."

"Nice to meet you. You were the top assasin there..."

"You were one too?"

"Seems like lots were."

"Liam?"

Rae snorted. "No. Liam's too SYFish to be one. Speaking of which..." Jaudiar, who didn't know Rae had somehow worked herself into anger within the space of a minute, watched as Rae stormed into Liam, who was raiding the fridge by now. "Liam snap the hell out of it! It was her decision, not yours!"

Liam ignored her and continued to raid the fridge.

"Liam! Look at me!"

Liam closed the fridge and met her gaze with two cold and unblinking eyes, "I know it was her decision. That's why I've got to kill her. I'm leaving this evening and none of you are going to stop me."

Rae thought for a minute. She should have expected it...she'd do the same thing... "I'm going with you."

He made an exasperated noise in the back of his throat and pulled out some cheese. "Liam, you hurt my grandaddy. At least let me go with you."

He glared at her. "Fine."

"Good." Rae turned around. "Jaudiar, you wanna come?"

A squak of protest was heard from Liam.

"Sure," Jaudiar replied. "Where are we going."

"To kill someone bad."

"Okay," a grin lit Jaudiar's face."What about Siren?"

"Iono. Siren, wanna come?"

Siren stared at them, not blinking.

"I guess it's just us Liam."

He grumbled all the way to the car.

Finally, Jaudiar hissed at Liam through her teeth, eyes flashing red.

Jaudiar: Just shut up about the damned past! It's over!

Liam: What would you know?!?

Jaudiar: I'm Hellcat.

Liam had already opened his mouth with a reply, then closed it again, looking both angry and shocked. A look of disbelieve betrayed his face...Jaudiar snarled furiously and pulled down the back of her shirt, exposing the numerous scars that traced up and down her back. At the bottom, a tattoo of a cat was etched...claws bared...fangs extended.

Rae: ...they did that to you?

Jaudiar: When I was young. My destiny was already set into place....

Liam: So you're the one who killed some many people...

Jaudiar: Cry me a river, Build me a Bridge, and get Over it.

Rae: *throws car into first gear* Let's go.

Jaudiar: ...*cracks neck* Good to be back in buisness.

Liam slipped on his gun and holster bouncing around in the back seat as the dusty car bounced on the rough road. The old airport taxi gradually peaked to a decent speed of sixty kilometres an hour. Rae focused her attention on her driving while Liam and Jaudiar remained silent. It wasn?t five minutes before they arrived at the destination, a long airstrip bearing a brand spanking new black Ops F1 -11 complete with the customary red kangaroo on the rear fin.

Liam kicked open the door and marched over to it, climbing up the ladder on the side and opening the Perspex cockpit. Rae and Jaudiar followed suit. Liam was about to protest that there wasn?t enough room, but his eyes fell on the extra seating behind the gunner?s position.

?Bah! Bloody custom extras...?

Rae and Jaudiar belted up and the dual Perspex cockpits closed. Liam started up the engine when he felt a tap on his shoulder,

?Do you even know how to fly this thing?? The finger belonged to Rae, who seemed anxious.

Liam didn?t reply and eased the jet down the runway, there was a momentary shuddering before the jet took off with a roar into the warm desert air. He flicked off his radio and turned on the jet?s auto pilot, pin pointing the destination on the small GPS. He closed his eyes, total silence engulfed him as the craft raced towards it?s destination.

-------

However many hours it is to Cambodia later:

The F1 - 11 touched down on the jungle engulfed airport, it skidded down the tiny runway before being caught by it?s nose in the net at the end of the runway. Liam punched the release in the middle of his chest and took off his helmet. The cockpit eased open and allowed him to leap nimbly to the runway floor. The entire base was deserted, no surprises there, only three people knew of it?s location. The commander, Jessie, and him. A tingle rushed up his spine as he glanced around the jungle. Only three people knew... He cursed and started running back to the F1 -11 shouting for Rae and Jaudiar, now stretching their legs, to get back in the fighter.

Rae opened her mouth to complain, but was cut short when puffs of dust erupted behind Liam?s heels, the snipers hidden in the tree?s had released a volley of shots the split second he had begun running. Rae jumped back into the F1 - 11, followed suit by Jaudiar and Liam.

As the cockpit closed, a large crack appeared on the bullet proof Perspex, right in front of Liam?s face. He swore and snatched the joystick into his hands, flicking the Hell-fire safeties off.

?*****...?

A torrent of red missiles erupted from their hives and decimated the jungle before the craft. When it was safe, Liam climbed out of the jet and inspected the mangled and burning corpses. All dead and equipped with the best weaponry money could buy. He shook his head and wandered back to the jet, hoisting his pack and rifle from the storage compartment.

Jaudiar got out, stretched from the back to the front, knuckles brushing the ground each time, then she straightened up and opened her every famous pack. Out came several ....okay, more than several cartridges for her handguns, an extra sight, two slingblades, and a sensor. She tossed the sight to Rae and flicked her own into position.... The slingblades were neatly inserted into her hip holsters, and the sensor attatched itself to her headband. Last but not least, she pulled on both her gloves and snapped the buckles into place.

Liam: Where's the aurmored car?

Jaudiar: That would be in my other pack.

Rae: Lay off Liam. *adjusts sight* ........ready?

Jaudiar: I think I've forgotten something......

Liam: I don't see what that coud be....

Jaudiar: Oh it's probably nothing. Let's go.

Liam pulled out a map and a compass from one of his side pockets and began gaining his bearings.

Rae wandered over, amused, ?Why aren?t you using the GPS, I mean it?d be a heckuv?a lot more reliable than you and that compass.?

Liam didn?t look up until he had passed her his GPS. ?It?s unreliable, most definitely seeing as we now know the subject has easy access to all SYF satellite uplinks and computer updates. I wouldn?t be surprised if she changed the location of every single base on the digital maps, just a small amount, so we?d be walking straight into a trap. Exactly like what happened in the Sahara.?

Liam folded up his map and unsheathed a machete from a strap on the side of his leg, and instantly began ploughing through the dense vegetation at the side of the air strip.

?We can?t go the normal way, too many booby traps. We?ve got to take the untouched path and keep our eyes peeled. No stopping, no sleeping. I?m not. . .we?re not stopping until we stop the subject and her friends.? Liam spat the last three words after dipping them in venom. He continued making his way through the forest, occasionally stopping to check the bearings.

Rae muttered in an undertone to Jaudiar, ?The trigger happy bästard isn?t taking it well is he??

Liam glared and turned around, a vien in his neck twitching. "I heard that."

"You were supposed to." Rae rubbed her wrist. "Rain's coming."

Liam looked at the barely visible sky, obviously full of rain clouds. "No **** Sherlock."

"You're such an ***, Liam."

Jaudiar intervened. "Leave it, Rae. He's not a happy camper."

"Neither am I. In fact, I hate camping. I tend to whinge when I do."

"Oh," Liam groused, still stomping through the bushes as he cut them one by one. It seemed more like a release for angrer than a necessity, really. "We hadn't noticed."

"And sarcasm is just one more service we offer," Jaudiar murmered.

"...Along with bitchyness, trigger-happyness, being a bastard, and, of course, dwelling on ****."

Liam spun around. "What is wrong with you, Rae? Is there a reason why you like annoying me when I'm burning angry?"

She nodded, unconcerned, anger showing in her face. "Yeah, there is. **** happens, Liam. I got stabbed a lot. Jaudiar killed a lot. Siren killed poeple she didn't want to be dead...or maybe she didn't. Maybe you didn't have a sister, and in reality she was jsut sent there to kill you from the word goes...yes, okay...thats a pretty bad explanation, but, hey, thats how it goes. I don't mind. In fact, I'm going to shut up now, so that I don't make a bigger fool of myself..."

"Too late, Rae."

Rae's hand went to her gun and she jerked, stopping herself from shooting him, just. "Liam, just...you know what? I'm not going to say it. Go and sulk over the fact that she's on the enemies side. But, remember, that life isn't about good or bad...it's about survival."

With that little rant over, Rae grabbed the machete from Liam's hand and began hacking away at the growth.

OOC: Okay, wierdness. This is all your fault Liam. You wouldn't fight me, so I went off on a pretty stupid, probably uncomprehensible post. So there :p ...Erm. yeah. Ignore this. Its Sunday night. School tomorrow. I'm mourning the loss of another weekend.

Jaudiar: .....she's right.

Liam: Women.

Jaudiar/Rae: Machoist.

With a quick movement, Jaudiar snicked her wrist and let some of her blood fall to the ground. Then she swiftly wrapped the blood from her wrist with a peice of cloth and dropped that to the forest floor as well. In another second, several creatures grouped next to it and began to feed.

Liam: What are.....?

Jaudiar: Tagranian Bats.....relatives of the Vampires. We'd best be on our ware.

_____

Liam wrapped the rifle strap twice around his hand before pulling it into his shoulder. He slid the barrel through the thick foliage and peered through the scope.

Rae began to speak, ?What the hell are you doin-

Liam let off a burst round and quickly removed the weapon from sight, ?Shootin? people.?

He quickly ran though the foliage, footsteps light. Rae groaned, but followed hot on Liam?s heels. Jaudiar flicked the safeties of her pistol, muttering for the umpteenth time, ?Trigger happy..?

Liam slid the rifle through the foliage again, this time selecting several figures examining the spot where he used to be. He grinned and squeezed the trigger, strobing it over the group. He quickly removed the rifle again and ejected the spent cartridge, quickly reloading again before heading to a new location and repeating the process.

~~~~~
5 MINUTES LATER
Jaudiar kicked a corpse over onto it?s back before speaking, ?Talk about overkill...?
Liam laughed outright, voice hinted with something that seemed to chill the air...He released another spent cartridge before reloading. Smoke slowly wafted from the barrel ominously as he strode briskly to an ajar entrance to the base. He slid a torch into it?s respective slot and illuminated the darkened doorway. A sickly stench of recycled air wafted up to his nose.
Rae huffed, ?Against every rule in the book, attacking armed militants while putting your own team members in danger...entering an unsecured facility with definite bloodthirsty unfriendlies hiding in the dark...?
Jaudiar poked her in the shoulder, ?Well if you want to tell him that, you might want to hurry, he?s already gone inside...?
Ryan had been taking an afternoon nap and enjoying his few days of relaxation between missions when suddenly his room's door was flung open with a loud bang.
Ryan was awake and had fired two rounds into the doorway before he realized where he was. This was SYF HQ, he was safe here.
Adam got up off the floor slowly and scowled at Ryan.
Adam: "What a nice welcome."
Ryan: "What a nice entrance."
Adam: "You wouldn?t happen to know where Liam, Rae and Jaudiar disappeared to, would you?"
Ryan: "Mabye?"
Adam: "Well apparently they left for Cambodia yesterday, and somehow forged my signature for the use of a helicopter and on a check for an airport taxi."
Ryan: "And they didn?t invite me?"
Adam: "You are going to Cambodia with the rest of the team now to bring them back, regardless of the mission status. Understood?"
Ryan: "Who's in command?"
Adam: "Craig is, now get moving."
Adam walked out of the room muttering about kids these days having no respect and SYF picking the worst bunch of agents in a decade.
Ryan quickly packed and walked into the hallway, to find Craig waiting for him. They looked at each other and without a word they walked through the building towards the parking lot.
Adam: "Wait, you two can't go without the rest of the team."
Ryan: "Adam, we're going whether you like it or not. I am not working with that other sniper. End of discussion."
Adam: "You listen to me rig.."
Ryan slammed the HQ door in Adam's face and walked with Craig towards Ryan's car.
How ever long it takes to get to Cambodia, minus ten minutes later?
Craig flew the helicopter towards the preplanned drop zone, only to find that it was utterly destroyed. The clearing they were supposed to land in was clearly mined and strewn with boulders and freshly cut logs.
Ryan: "Liam's sister?"
Craig: "My thoughts exactly."
They flew the copter north for a few miles until they found a suitable landing site, then set the chopper down?
Rae followed as the trio slowly progressed through the building, pausing as a helicopter sounded overhead. "I think we'd better..."
Jaudiar finished her thought. "See who it is. Find a safe place." Liam grunted in opposition. "You can't kill her if you'r dead before you get to her, Liam." She remarked dryly.
"Okay," he acknowledged grudgingly. "We'll be careful." They quickly clambered into the air vent, making sure that it would hold thier combined weight. Staying alert, Rae was their eyes, Liam their ears, and Jaudiar their firepower. Rae peered down through the small grate, nerves stringing tightly as footsteps came closer. She breathed a sigh of relief as she realised who it was.
"It's Craig and Ryan." She was pushed out of the way as Liam silently scrambled to have a look. She exchanged a glance with Jaudiar.
"What are they doing here?" He sighed in exasperation. Jaudiar snorted.
"Could it possibly be that they weren't sent here because we rather obviously stole a helicopter and came to this hell-hole?" Liam didn't to acknowledge that with a reply, instead pulling out the grate and dropping onto the floor.
"What are you doing here?" He asked, glaring at both of them in turn.
"Well, Adam found out that you were here and decided to make us come and back you up." Ryan stated, staring at Liam fearlessly.
"I thought it was generally accepted that Liam was going to go," Raellyra murmered to Jaudiar.
"What do you mean?"
"I know my brother. He isn't as dumb as Liam thinks. He'd have known Liam was going to go..."
"Ah..." Jaudiar's frown cleared as the reason dawned on her. "And he wanted Liam to take care of it. He trusts Liam. But we threw a spanner in the works, and if three go, all of us have to."
"So where are the others?"
Craig, who'd been listening to the girls' whispered conversation, answered. "They'll be here sooner or later..."
"We didn't bother to pick them up with us..." Ryan explained.
"But..." Raellyra began confused. "There were only two helicopters at the place where we got ours from..."
Jaudiar rolled her eyes. "How eloquently put."
"Well, we are in enemy territory..."
Liam, who'd been pretty much silent, butted in. "Precisely. So, maybe we should, you know, get moving?"
"Oh, right." Rae muttered, already starting to slide towards the walls for protection. The others followed her lead. Liam knew the basic set up, so he was just looked to as the guide. It was obvious, however, when they came upon the main rooms. "You'd think they'd be more heavily guarded," she remarked.
"No," Liam argued. "Jes...the target believe's she is invincible. Beside's which, she's expecting us."
OOC: yes, very.
_____
Liam walked into the spacious hall, footsteps echoing around him. He drew to a halt when the slim figure looking out the large windows turned to face him.
?Sis...? Liam managed to say.
Jess smiled and walked towards him, ?So you made it here. I?m so glad you came, now you can help us fight for this worthy cause!?
Liam was taken aback, ?You are not my sister...my sister would never warrant the murder of so many innocents as a ?worthy cause.?
?My real brother would not have been blinded by corruption his own self righteousness.? Jess said defiantly. ?He would know a good cause when he saw it and would have joined it the instant the opportunity beckoned.? Jess paused, ?It beckons now Liam.?
~
By now Rae and Jaudiar had caught up and had entered the hall, slowing their fast pace to a stop. The room was silent and cool, but the tension was building and even from so far away, Rae could have sworn she saw the nerve twitching on Liam?s temple.
~
Liam shook his head, ?Then I guess both our respective siblings are dead. It now seems that all that I need to do is finish what I came here to do, my job.?
Jess remained grim and ripped her Velcro gun holster off her hip, tossing it and the weapon to the side before taking a stance. ?Fine. Let?s make this fair though. Take off the Kevlar and lose the pistol.?
Liam gave a mock bow and tossed his khaki t-shirt aside to reveal the black Kevlar vest. He undid the Velcro straps and dropped it to the tiled floor with a dull thud. He picked up his shirt and put it back on, throwing his gun and holster to the side.
Jess gave a curtsey before leaping at him, tackling him around the middle. They both hit the hard tiles and slid with the momentum. Liam threw her off and got to his feet, waiting for her to do the same. He rolled his shoulders and rushed, first fist colliding with her chin and the second openhandedly slammed her in the chest.
Jess gasped as the air was knocked out of her lungs and stumbled back a pace. Liam, not keen on wasting time, kicked her in the stomach. As she fell, he felt cold steel slash deeply in his leg.
Jess spat blood out of the corner of her mouth, ?I?ve learnt a few tricks in the time I?ve been here. One of which was to fight dirty!?
A derringer two shot dropped into her palm from a secreted pocket in her sleeve, Liam dropped to the floor in his efforts to avoid the two heated shots. He rolled back to his feet, with some effort on the bleeding leg, only to be high-jump-kicked in the face. He fell back on his rump for the third time in the space of five minutes.
~
Rae and Jaudiar stood on the far side of the hall, half stunned and half entertained at the same time.
?Painful...? Rae muttered
?Seen worse.? Jaudiar simply replied
~
Liam lifted Jessie to his face, ?Why sis? Can you bloody tell me that??
She smirked, ?We all need a little controversy...besides, I was getting bored after all this goodie two shoes business, when they got mum and dad, I thought what?s the point of trying to beat them when you can join them??
Liam dropped her, disgusted. Jess giggled, ?Bit of a moral dilemma for you isn?t it? Fighting for a corrupt government or fighting with your sis on the good side? Whatever are you going to do??
?Do what I?m supposed to do and fight on the good side.?
Jess nodded and wandered over to pick up her gun, ?Shall we kill these two together or what??
Liam didn?t reply. He picked up his Eagle and pulled the trigger until the gun was empty. Jess slumped to the floor, a pool of blood rapidly forming to greet her.
Liam walked over to her and knelt beside her, closing her pain struck eyes and walking out the exit, past the shocked Rae and Jaudiar.
Ryan sat in the cafeteria, his sniper rifle in pieces scattered around his food.
He hadn't got to use it, again. He was getting very, very tired of this. He wanted to prove that he was a good agent, someone who could fulfill his part of the mission without any problems.
He had failed. Liam had left and gone into harms way without him. He hadn't been there to provide support or do anything else. Who cares if Liam wasn't even supposed to be there in the first place? He was supposed to be there, with Liam and the rest of the team regardless of the circumstances.
He would have to keep an eye on everyone else from now on and not let any of them go on any missions, authorized or not, without him.
Ryan finished his sub sandwich and began to clean and assemble his rifle. It was something he did to relax, to relieve tension and to forget what was going on around him.
And thankfully it was working, taking his mind off his failures...
Rae rolled her shoulders, scratched her neck, cracked her fingers, and finally gave up. "Okay, Jaudiar, you win."
Jaudiar whooped with joy. "Yes! I told you that you couldn't do it!"
Rae glared at her. "I know. How do you do this thing, anyway?" She turned her head to a different angle, considered standing on her head, then just turned the puzzle upside down. Jaudiar chortled, a snort escaping from her battle not to laugh.
"There's a trick to it. I'll see if Siren wants to try." She turned to where Siren was sitting, again in a corner. They were in the common room, however, Siren, Rae, and Jaudiar were the only ones there. The others seemed to prefer the cafeteria. "Wanna try and beat me? Or Rae? Not that that would be hard..." she muttered, wincing as Rae kicked her. Jaudiar turned back to Siren. "So you want to?"
Siren didn't reply, instead just turning away and finishing her drink.Frowning, Rae turned to Jaudiar. "I'm worried about her. Honestly."
Jaudiar nodded. "So am I. But she's got to sort out her own problems. Just leave her for a while."
Rae glanced uncertainly at Siren, then nodded. "Okay. I have to train now, though, or I'm going to loose all my flexibility at a vety fast rate. Want to join me?"
"Sure." They made their way to the gym. Jaudiar started off on the floor, stretching into those amazing positions Rae jealously watched. Rae started on the beam, taking it easy with basic manouvers.
"This is fun. I should do this more often."
Adam, who'd come into the gym without them noticing, remarked. "You mean twice a day, instead of just once?"
Surprized, Rae wobbled and fell. She glared at Adam. "Yeah. Thanks." She got up gingerly, making sure nothing was wrong. Everything was fine.
Jaudiar walked over to Adam, having stood upright from a backward walkover. "So, what's wrong?"
"Nothing, I was just keeping track of everyone..."
Rae smirked, trying to keep her laughter hidden. "You wanted to use the gym, but you never use it when someone's inside, so you wanted to see if anyone was occupying it?"
"Something like that," he muttered, a stain of red flushing his cheeks.
"That's okay. Come on Jaudiar." Rae almost skipped out, Jaudiar following her bemusedly.
"What was that about?"
Rae giggled. "He's embarrased. When he was younger...all these girls flocked towards him because of his body, and now he's got all these scars and things, so he's...embarrased."
Jaudiar hissed,
Rae: What?
Jaudiar: I have scars inumerable on my body...I'm not ashamed of it. I'm going back in! No self concious bastard is making me lose my training time!
Rae: Bu-
She found herself talking to thin air....Jaudiar had ripped off her shirt and thrown it in her face. Then she kicked the doors to the gym open, totally uncarying that she was displaying a sports bra and whiplashes down her back and sides. Adam stared.
Jaudair: What?
Adam: ......nothing.
She rolled her eyes and flicked on the CD player.....the music of the Matrix blared loudly....stopping all chance of protest. Adam winced. While her form might be perfect, her skin was.....bad. Jaudiar, far from embarassed, calmly began to execute the moves for a ballet Adagio set....to the sounds of the Ministry.
Rae shrugged, and walked back to the common room, after dropping Jaudiar's shirt inside the door. Okay, it was stupid for Adam to be so self-conscious. However, he put up with her idiosyncrasies. She put up with his. It was what they did.
Reaching the common room, Rae glanced at Siren again, bit her lip, then shrugged. She needed a shower. Returning to the dorms, Rae remembered her files. She'd left them in the Head Quarters near Gryphon.
Sighing, Rae left with her clothes to go to the shower.
Siren strode into the gym and raised her eyebrows at Jaudiar before removing her vest and droping into a locker... Her undershirt was black and revealed her midrif and the lower half of the black and grey tatoo of a gryphon that covered her entire back... One of it's eyes was visible and it was a pericing green... Siren moved silently to the gym bars and adjusted them mechanicly to the specific routine she intended to practice... She stretched silently, focus on warming up adequetly... She ran and jumped, snagging the lower bar, which was a good six feet above the ground and swinging herself up one handed... She crouched and then sprang into the air, twisting to grab the higher bar, which was about ten feet over the ground, and seven feet away from the lower one... She rotated around it once, twice and launched herself into the air, landing perfectly on one of the softer mats... She turned and headed to the lazer room, glancing at Jaudiar, who had gone about her business after Siren's entrance... For a moment the urge to talk to her washed over her... She stiffened and forced herself to enter the code as she ruthlessly beat her feelings down once more...
Computer: Acess granted... Welcome Siren...
She sliped into the room, not minding that Adam had probably seen her and would stop her from activating the program... She turned to the door and locked it... She turned the setting to nine, one away from the final, and deadly setting... Numbly, she gave her fathers voice activation and stared as the beams activated... These beams would render her unconcious and give her a burn to remember... She glanced at the fading scar on her arm... Painful as she recalled... She pushed herself to the limit as she danced through the stationary beams... Reaching the other side she activated the movement and watched the door open with a bang...
Liam stepped across the threshold and closed the door behind him, the broken lock fell to the floor with a clatter. He glanced around at the now moving beams and removed his glasses, dropping them into a locker in the corner. He cracked his knuckles and nodded to Siren,
?I assume that there is room for two??
Siren reluctantly nodded and followed him into the moving beams. There was a momentary silence as the generator paused and warmed up, lights along the wall dimmed and the room was illuminated only by the moving red lines.
Liam jumped over one of the sweeping devils and asked Siren, ?So what?s going on with you??
She didn?t reply, instead she focused her attention on leaping and ducking her way across to the other side of the room. Liam sighed and ran at the wall opposite, repelling himself off it until he hung from the ceiling. Siren blinked, confused at how he was seemingly hanging from a smooth concrete ceiling.
Liam swung back and forth, letting go at the last second and reaching another hidden vantage point, he continued on his path, narrowly missing the beams. He landed, crouching at Siren?s feet.
Siren began, ?How, but...there isn?t anything up there!?
Liam grinned, ?Things aren?t always as they seem.? Inside his mind he groaned, yet another cliché spouting from his mouth. He stood and raised a penlight, shining it on the high shadowed ceiling. There, hidden cleverly by varying shades of concrete and colour was a row of monkey bars. He smiled and placed the penlight back in his pocket.
?As I was asking before. What?s going on with you? And I want the truth. I?m the only person here who?s allowed to a secretive bastard, and I intend to keep it that way. Now, spill the beans, let the cat out of the bag, something to prevent me from my continual spouting of inconsequential phrases!?
A smile played around the corner of Siren?s lips before it was quickly suppressed.
Liam folded his arms, ?Whatever it is, it won?t go further than this room. If you don?t want to tell me, fine. But I?ll tell you one thing, if it has to do with family, feel free to tell me, both my parents are dead because of me, and I just killed my sister in cold blood less than twenty hours ago.? Liam?s voice faltered as he spoke the last few words, but he regained himself and waited for her reply.
OOC: Hehehe....that is sad, Liam. And a funny word. "Scheming." Hehehe...
_____________
Raellyra, having finished her shower, decided on a drink. Kkowing the vending machine was near the gym, she went to her room first to get the money needed. As she passed the gym, she smirked, hearing the blaring music, and Raiha and Adam indulging in a shouting match over the top.
Sticking her coins into the change slot, she pressed the "Sunkist" button, and waited. Nothing happened. Sighing, she pressed it again. But still nothing. Glaring at the inert machine, Rae sank down onto her knees, and pulled out a case of lock-picks from the pocket in her pants. She chose one, and stuck it in wriggling it about until she heard the lock click. Smiling, she opened up the door.
Inside was a mess. It were as if someone had tipped it over, making all the drinks fall down, blocking up the door. This, she found out as cans tumbled all over her, was not conducive to hold the drinks up. Sighing, Rae grumbled about all the bruises she'd have tomorrow as she started to pick them up. However, as she did so, she noticed soemthing dripping in the back. Carefully, Rae grabbed a lock-pick and used that to swipe it. She brought it up to her nose, sniffing it, then, surmising that it wouldn't be acidic, she touched it, rubbing the substance between her fingers. Deciding she needed to find out more, she grabbed the box that obviously held the substance. It was black, metal, and perfectly unidentifiable.
Thinking, Rae decided on a course of action, putting the box, with barely anything in it, on the ground, then lit a match; another item she always carried on her. She dropped it into the box, watching as burst into flames. Unfortunately, Rae learnt, the box was just a tad bit close the everything else. The drink machine somehow went up in flames, at the same time creating a huge explosion. Craig, who'd come up behind her when she was pre-occupied, stated dryly. "I believe the correct statement would be 'Oops'."
"Yeah," replied Rae. "Thanks for that." She stood up, watching the machine burn. "I think..."she started pensively, "we might need an extinguisher. Or water." As she finished that thought, Adam crashed out of the gym, a look of alarm on his face. It was, Rae realised horror that history could be repeating itself.
***FLASHBACK***
The bomb was completely unexpected, and devestated the group. They'd been sitting in a meeting, what for, Rae had never found out. All she knew was that the bomb had blown with a huge explosion, Adam being just rooms away. He'd gotten scars all over his body because of the fire. He come running out of the room with two men behind him, his eyes searching frantically for Rae and Matt. "Adara! Matt!" He'd called hoarsely. "Get out! Now! There's been a bomb!"
Rae who'd been in shock, hadn't been able to decipher what he was saying. It was Matt who'd grabbed her arm and started running. It'd been close, so close. The fire had spread quickly over the building. So many had died.
***END FLASHBACK***
Adam's eyes took in what had happened, scanning the now melting veinding machine , and resting on Rae's guilty face. "Rae," he asked, as a security guard came running up with an extinguisher. "What did you do this time?"
Rae just shrugged sheepishly.
