Blair sat at his desk, anger etching his brow as he eyed the pitiful man standing before him. The man hunched in his chair, making himself as small a target as possible. He was looking down at the plush carpet, shuffling his feet and ringing his hands.

"You what?" Despite being obviously Spanish in origin, Blair spoke English fluently, preferring its world-wide ackowledgement as one of the most spoken tongues. Spanish in business meetings was cumbersome.

"We couldn't get her." The man mumbled his speech, letting the words collapse into oblivion as soon as they were spoken. He looked up quickly, gauging Blair's reaction. What he saw in his eyes obviously made him afraid. He rubbed the scar on his left cheek in a nervous action.

Blair's response was clipped, and dripped like icicles around the room. "And why did you fail in this simple task?"

The man's stutter became more pronounced. He tripped over his words as he hurried to explain the circumstances. "Well, there were these girls...more like women actually. And they got her before we could. I think they were powerful, you know, like Wonderwoman or something..." He looked awkward, fiddling with the arm of the chair. "I know there's no such thing really, o'course, but still I thought maybe they'd work for the government. The girl...you never told me her name, you know that? Just gave me a picture. Well, the girl, she was gone before I could get her."

There was a deadly silence for a minute, and the man - Robert - opened his mouth to fill it. Blair held up his hand to forestall the chatter that would inevitably come out of his mouth, then asked quietly, "Did you not drug her, as you were instructed?"

In an effort to ingratiate himself with Blair, he nodded forcefully, then stipulated his answer. "Except, I think I maybe gave her too much, 'cause she passed out and she wasn't supposed to, not that soon. She was supposed to get sick, so we could take her away all offically, like what you said. So now I'm thinkin' maybe I shouldn'ta given her the amount I did. It was the normal amount, but she's a little thing. And not old, like most people who take it. So I dunno."

Blair sat back, processing with disgust the information that had just poured out of Roberts bumbling mouth.

Serric laid Rae down on the bed and felt for her pulse again. Siren pulled out the IV and Jaudiar began to mix the proper drugs. Saline and a few other chemicals of her own design. She set it up and pulled out the hypodermic needles. She lightly inserted it into Rae's vein and set the drip mode. Rae stirred in her sleep and turned slightly.

The women and Serric left quietly.

Jaudiar: She'll be fine now.

Siren: How many hours?

Jaudiar: I'll give her 6....because her system works so easily...stretching seems to have it's own personal charm. Come on, let's eat.

Serric: There's food?

Jaudiar: Follow me.

The man in the crisp suit opened up his briefcase and pulled out several documents before placing them on the oak table that Liam was currently resting his feet on. The Commander himself was looking very agitated, resembling more of a worried parent more than a superior officer.

The man dropped a heavy file on the table. Liam raised an eyebrow and took a glance at it.

?Your list of offences and the laws you broke in full detail Master Cameron.?

Liam dropped his feet from the table and took a closer look at the file.

?I did all this? Wow.? Liam pulled out a black and white photo and showed the Commander, ?hey! This is that guy I killed with the toothpicks?.whoa, I didn?t know that much grey stuff-

-Liam!? The Commander coughed at Liam?s immaturity, ?that is really not appropriate.?

?Bah, you are so not fun.?

?Child.?

?Old guy.?

?Brat.?

?Really old guy.?

The man in the crisp suit slammed a file on the table, killing the argument. Liam grinned and glanced at the new file.

?So what?s that?? He asked.

?My plan for today?s court session.? Came the reply. ?I was hoping to go through it with you before the court case, but because of your lateness, I?m afraid that isn?t possible.?

Liam shrugged and stood.

?Well what?ya going to do eh?? Liam stretched. ?C?mon, lets get this over with.?

Liam wandered into the courtroom with his hands in his pockets while the Commander and the Attorney followed in behind. The room was virtually empty. Only the judge, jury of ten and the prosecutor were present. Oh, and about five or so armed soldiers. Liam gave a jaunty wave and sat down in his seat.

?Jury of peers?? He muttered to the Commander, ?not likely. I mean look at them all, I?m a no-ranking agent while they?re all Commanders like yourself. Not fair in my book.?

The Commander ignored him and continued with his strained expression.

As life began to return to Rae's prone form, Jaudiar opened a few containers and began to heat up several different dishes. Soon, the scent of chicken, soup, and pasta began to seep through the room. Jaudiar smiled to herself and took out the wine glasses. Might as well have an interesting night.

Siren: You're crazy.

Jaudiar: Hey, it's Serric's first night here with us "girls." He deserves a warm welcome.

The younger of the two wandered off, muttering something uninteligable, but clearly something along the lines of, "That's not the only warm thing he'll be getting...knowing you." Jaudiar ignored the comment and continued with her work.

In the bedroom, Rae began to stir.

The blankets were hot. No, not just hot, they were burning. Rae kicked them off and opened her eyes, using a heavy hand to hold them open while she woke up. There was an IV drip in her hand, she realised. Remembering Liam's incident, she pulled it out, got dressed, and stumbled her way into the kitchen, relaxing when she saw Jaudiar and Siren.

She saw Serric and smiled at him. He waved and bit into a sandwich that proceeded to squelch itself into his stomach. She raised an eyebrow and sat down. Jaudiar followed suit and sat opposite her. "Have a nice rest, Sleeping Beauty?"

Yawning, she replied with a sleepy, "Arty Ar Ar", then looked down at the food Siren set infront of her. She nodded her thanks and started eating, scoffing the food faster than Serric. When she finished, she looked at him happily, then at the others, and stated, "Food is good."

~~~
Blair pulled the apple tart out of Robert's mouth. "Are you stupid? Stop feeding your fat face. We must find out a way to capture Adam's sister, or Pizaro and Nicholas will have both of our skins."
Robert paused, his rat-like face twitching at the insulting "fat face" remark. However, he knew better than to contradict Blair.
Blair leaned back in his chair, thinking for a minute, then smiled coldly. "Return here tomorrow and I will have written instructions for you."
The man scuttled outside, glad to be free of Blair's overdominating prescence. Blair watched him go, the new plan forming in his mind. It was practically fool proof. All they needed was time.
Jaudiar: You are hopeless.
Rae: Well, I've been mostly dead all afternoon.
Siren: Try 18 hours.
Rae: Fine....18 hours.
Serric: Are they always like this?
Jaudiar: Oh no, this is virtually normal.
Siren: Ugh, I'm going to bed.
The oldest of the group waved her hand dismissively...and S iren glowered at her. She winked back and made a very obvious sign behind Serric's head.
Liam wandered over the threshold of the room, wincing as the metal door behind him clanged shut. The hundreds of faces at the dining tables flicked his way and then back at their meals. Liam inwardly groaned. This was happening, he was locked up, in a conventional detention centre.
?Great.? He muttered.
The court case had gone abysmally. His attorney had come up with hundreds of clever ploys that would have gotten him off with a pardon. But the government was keen to take him down and keep the SYF running. Liam sat down on an empty chair on the far side of the room. Two year sentence in this hole and then onto forty-eight more in a high security prison. Brilliant?
Liam raised an eyebrow as the thugs at the nearest table turned around and gawked at him, muttering to themselves about his appearance.
??Weakling?must?ve stolen a couple of handbags??
??more than a couple to get into this place??
?yeah, not like he?s don? anything,? wonder if we can? get some cash offa him??
Liam rolled his eyes. This was going to be a long day. Overhead a bell rang. A door on the other side of the room opened and the security guards flanked it. The detainees filed out into the corridors. Liam hung to the back and was the last to leave the room. A security guard caught him around the arm.
?New kid eh? Lemme see?number 4133409?your room is forty-five. Lights out in two hours, recreation room is at the end of the corridor.?
Liam nodded slowly and wandered down the concrete hallway, humming to himself with his hands in his pockets. They had confiscated the lighter for obvious reasons?but he still had the cards?
~~~

The Commander knocked timidly on the door. There was the sound of bolts scraping and the door opened, Siren stood on the threshold.

?Yes?? She asked.

?Who?s that?? Called out Jaudiar from inside.

?The Commander.? Replied Siren, ?Liam isn?t with him though.?

The Commander sighed and fumbled with his hat.

?Liam won?t be coming back. Full stop, end of story??
Siren raised an eyebrow, ?well you might want to come in then.?

She sighed and wrenched open the door. The commander entered the apartment carefully, and sat down across from Jaudiar and Serric. Jaudiar steepled her fingers and waited.

Commander: The government wants SYF to stay where it is....Liam could've been pardoned...but they wanted it to stay.

Jaudiar: I hope you have life insurance.

Commander: It wasn't my fault!

Jaudiar: ....

The sound of grinding teeth was clearly audible....as Jaudiar's hands began to clench uncontrollably.....she hissed through her teeth and the blood began to race through her veins.

Jaudiar: I'll give you ten seconds to get out of this place before I overturn the table and maul you.

Rae shrugged as the Commander looked at her pleadingly. "I'm not going to help you. First of all, she's scary when she's angry, and secondly, I happen to agree with her."

The Commander hurried out the door, not bothering to close it. Rae walked behind him, shutting it gently, then looked at Jaudair and the others. "I say we do something."

"There's nothing to do. Should we help him, we get in trouble. Get in trouble and we can't help him anyway."

Rae spat on the carpeted floor and sat down again. "I hate helplessness."

She screamed with rage, and was about to flip the table over anyways, when Rae's hands descended on her shoulders. The calm pressure quickly brought her back into her usual state of mind...and she breathed deeply...

Jaudiar: I'm sorry.

Serric: What could we do?

Siren: Expose the government's corruptness?

Jaudiar: ...with what? Oragami?!?

Rae grinned. "Well, I was thinking fire power, but now that you mention it..." The others glared at her. "No. I'm serious. What if...someone just happened to receive a tip off of the SYF corruptness, total uncontroversial proof, and the whereabouts of one of the most wanted families in the SYF database? Okay, so it?s not so much origami as paper, but it?d go one hell of a long way??

Siren rolled her eyes and flopped down on a couch. ?And how would that help Liam??

Rae grinned. ?You forget. I?m Adam?s sister, and as much as he?s a traitor, he?s never fed me false information. The detention centre is linked into the government databases, which is linked into the SYF ones. With the right program you can hack right through, and grant an ?official? pardon. All you need is a distraction.?

Serric grinned at that. ?I can help you in that area.?

Rae shook her head and picked at her nails. ?No. We need you for something else.? She thought for a second, looking at Jaudiar vaguely. Her eyes sharpened on Jaudiar?s face as she had an idea. ?What about them firepower you and Liam unloaded from Pizaro?s joint? It wouldn?t still be there, but they?d have replaced it.?

?Actually,? Siren mused, ?we?ve been betrayed by our own side. We?re working against them now. Why don?t we involve others in our position??

Rae grinned and did a happy cartwheel, landing badly, but giggling none the less. ?Perfect.?

Serric looked around, clueless, and then turned to Jaudiar. ?What are they talking about??

Jaudiar gave a savage grin. ?We?re going to work for the Baudez clan.?

Liam sat down on the plastic chair in the corner of the recreation room. The room was filled with a teenage misfits and delinquents, all fighting over something, whether it be the TV or even a chair. Liam so far had been ignored. He rose from his chair and filled a paper cup from the water cooler in the corner. A hand took the cup before he could drink it.

?You?ve got to pay a fee if you want to drink from our fountain.?
Liam raised an eyebrow and faced the macho voice. He recognised the voice to belong to one of the goons at the tables.

Liam took the guys hand in his and crushed it, the water in the cup sprayed over them both. Liam remained deadpan and took another drink. The room around them was silent.

?You are so going to pay for that punk!?

Two more goons appeared beside the first goon, holding plastic cutlery that had been sharpened to a wicked point. All three advanced on Liam while the room around began chanting and claiming dibs on his shoes.

Liam crouched down, lowering his centre of gravity and backed into the corner.

?Hey boys, this guy?s been watchin? way too many kung-fu movies eh?? The trollish laughter rippled through the three.

Liam backed up until he felt the cold wall behind his back. He waited until the leader stabbed at him, before leaping up and holding himself above. The leader looked up angrily, just as Liam fell down again and planted his booted foot into his face.

Liam landed outside of the corner as the guy swayed on his feet. The other two advanced on him, feeling strength in numbers was appropriate.

On went sailing across the room into a bookcase just as the guards rushed in. Liam bowed and allowed himself to be taken away.

The room remained silent as the two unconscious bodies were removed for hospitalisation. A book fell from the shelf and chatter broke out once more.

Life continued as normal.

She sighed and leaned back, massaging her temples. The negotiations had been endless...but thanks to the amazing diplomacy shown by Siren and Rae...they were in. Jaudiar stood up and stretched.

Serric: Worried?

Jaudiar: Pissed. Not worried. The way he was looking at me...

Siren: Like a junkyard dog ready to pounce on fresh meat.

Jaudiar: Oh I feel so loved.

Rae: I wouldn't trust him alone in a room with you.

Jaudiar: I wouldn't trust him anywhere.

Rae thought about that. "I'd probably trust him when there's acid down his throat...cause...you know...Acid..."

They stared at her. She scratched her head and grinned, then announced her need for the shower. The other's nodded, and Rae walked off, whistling.

Their first mission was tonight, and, fortunately or unfortunately - whichever way you looked at it - it consisted of shmoozing people out of their money. Legally. It also involved eveningwear. And dresses. As much as Rae loved dresses, she had no taste of what looked good on her.

Rae showered quickly, washing her hair then plaiting it. She dressed in jeans and a t-shirt, and went exploring, familiarizing herself with the complex. Apparently, Rae thought, smirking,she wasn't trusted here anymore. They wouldn't let her enter the computer rooms or anything that held their safety communications.

Rae sighed and rubbed her forehead, wondering if she could find anyone that could help her wtih what to wear tonight.

With a few quick changes, Jaudiar's thick black hair was twistedinto a smooth bun, Rae shook out the folds of her skirt and blushed. She had never worn anything with a completely missing back. Jaudiar insisted that it was perfect and brought out the length of her neck....but she still was embarassed.

Rae: I feel naked.

Siren: And I look like a slut... I thought you'd never manage to get me back into this thing...

Jaudiar laughed

Jaudiar: You look fine...

Siren glowered...

Siren: It has no sides!!! It's almost as bad as yours!! I thought I woulden't have to play the suduction game anymore...

Jaudiar: Stop complaining... You love it...

She grumbled and moved to check the weaponry... Jaudiar laughed...

Siren: Oh ha, ha...

Liam sneezed in the cool of the concrete room. He reached and took another tissue while the secretary catalogued her notes and documents. Liam tossed the tissue into the plastic bin and gazed at the ceiling.

The solid door opened and a woman stood on the threshold, clipboard in hand.

?Liam? Ah yes, very good.?

Liam ran a hand through his hair, coughed and stuck it back in his pocket.

?The decision has been made,? the social worker continued brightly, ?because of your special circumstances we?ve decided to send you out west to a host family and help you get back on track.? She finished with a bright smile.

Liam was surprised, he hadn?t seen this coming,

?You mean I?m getting sent out west, as in, way out west to a foster family? To deal with cows?? Liam chuckled. ?Oh hooray, it sounds fun.?

The social worker frowned, ?I?m sure you will come around to it, they?re a nice family. Plus, because of their satellite connections, you can catch back up with your schoolwork. You never know, you might still have a chance of getting an apprenticeship!?

If Liam could have fallen over, he would have. This woman had no idea whatsoever.

?Fine. So when do I leave??

?Well you have your things packed and we?ll fly you out there immediately. You can ring your grandfather when you arrive.?

?Grandfather? ?oh, Grandfather. Yes, I?ll do that. Plus I might ring a few friends of mine if that?s okay.?

The woman frowned again, ?I don?t believe that would be wise, the call to your Grandfather is very expensive, besides,? she nudged him in the ribs, ?I doubt your host family will appreciate you making long and expensive phone calls to your girlfriend.?

The woman laughed. Liam eyed the phone cord and wondered how well it would work as a garrotte wire?pity he was on probation?

The social worker slapped him on the back and grinned.

?Well, now that?s settled, you go pack your things and we?ll sort out your travel arrangements.?

Liam groaned and allowed himself to be escorted down the hall, absentmindedly running a finger over the moustache that hadn?t been shaved.

?Life just keeps getting better and better for me?wonder if I can go ?roo and fox hunting when I get out there??

Serric watched her, half interested.

Jaudiar: Yes?

Serric: So why do you want Liam to be free? Why do you fight?

Doing a remarkable impression of a chicken, Rae flapped her hands about trying to dry the nail varnish quickly. They had five minutes before they left and she hadn't done her hair properly yet. Three seconds later, Rae gave up and looked helplessly towards Jaudiar. "Can you please..."

Jaudiar smiled serenly and walked toward her. Rae couldn't understand how Jaudiar could manage to anything but totter in heels that high, but somehow she did. It took Jaudiar three minutes to twist and secure Rae's hair. Rae grinned at the result, then stood up and pushed her feet into her own shoes.

She, however, did totter. Serric gave a bark of laughter, and Rae shot a glance at him, wondering how someone walked in these shoes. He snorted once, and turned red as he tried not to keep laughing. It took her a few steps to get used to the height, and by the time they walked out of the door, she was smiling and laughing herself.

They entered the ballroom joking and giggling, and stayed in a remarkably light-hearted state all night.

Liam fanned the red dust clouds away from his face as the Cessna hit the runway. More red dust rose from the seats, tickling his nose. The pilot in front drew the plane to a stop at the end of the runway and cut the engines.

Liam muttered, ?its about time,? and unlatched the door before dropping to the dry earth. The pilot clambered out and tugged the mail parcels out from their store. Liam caught the first bag and the parcel and dropped them on the ground to catch his bags.

The pilot nodded towards an oncoming cloud of dust and lit a cigarette. Liam rolled his eyes behind his sunglasses and leant against the side of the Cessna.

The old Landcruiser drew closer, dust fanning out the back. It bounced it?s way up onto the runway and parked, rolling forward slightly as though it was being driven by someone not quite used to the theory of the parking brake.

Liam hefted up his bags and wandered over. The pilot picked up the mail, cigarette hanging from his lip, and tossed them into the back of the old 4WD.

The driver?s side door opened and a teenager, dressed in dusty jeans and a flannel shirt wandered over. He tipped his hat to Liam and grinned. Liam, indulging in the fact that he was taller and probably about three years younger, smirked behind his sunglasses and threw his gear into the back.

?Same time next month eh?? The teen said to the pilot.

The pilot blew a cloud of smoke and lowered the cigarette, ?yeah. Maybe two, fuel prices are going up and it?ll be cheaper to hold back on your post.?

The youth grinned, ?doubt Mum would appreciate that, or Dad for that matter.?

The pilot laughed and wandered back to his plane. The Cessna started and wobbled around to face the other end of the runway. More red dust billowed into the air and the aircraft was gone.

?Name?s Brad.? The teen said as he stuck his hand out.

?Liam.? Liam shook it.

?So where?re ya from??

Liam opened the passenger door, ?Sydney was where I was locked up if that?s what you mean.?

Brad closed Liam?s door and climbed in the driver?s side, ?nah mate, where? you born??

?Brisbane.? Liam?s tone ceased Brad?s line of questioning.

The 4WD started and made it?s way back along the red earth road.

Rae tottered over to the buffet table, coming face to face wtih an almost identical girl. She smiled, not being surprized that Jenna was there. After all, Jenna had been regarded as an innocent, and placed in a minimum security centre.

Jenna stared at Rae for a minute, whispered, "I don't see it," and flicked her hair back in an unconsciously arrogant gesture.

Rae snerked and held Jenna's eyes. "Perhaps not, but everyone else did." Jenna's eyes flashed, and Rae felt a pang of sympathy. Knowing you were so easily mistaken was both disconcerting and self-confidence bashing.

Jenna, however, recovered with remarkable speed. Her face contorted into curiosity. She looked like a little girl in a candy store. "Would you like to try again? It could be fun at some point. You know...to switch."

This threw Rae off balance. There was a girly quality in Jenna's voice, and almost innate innocence. It took Rae several seconds to realise it was all an act. Jenna's eyes were nothing but ice. "Perhaps sometime."

Jaudiar and Siren chose that time to appear. It suddenly occured to Rae that had Liam been out, he would also be hovering protectively, albeit discreetly. She felt a pang of sadness, and resolved to help him out. This was the only way.

Siren was holding a glass of champange, looking decidely tipsy. However, Rae knew she was alert as always. Jaudiar had her 'bored' face on.

They all stood there for a few seconds, looking uncomfortable. Well, Rae thought. This is sociable.

The ancient windscreen wipers slapped back and forth across the muddy windshield. Overhead, the threat of a monsoon loomed. Brad was hunched over the wheel and peered through the opaque glass. In the end he had to resort to sticking his head out the window to see where he was going.

?Bout five minutes and we?re there.?

Liam rolled his eyes. That was the fifth time Brad had said that. Brad had a very strange conception of time, seeing as that had been the sixth time he had said that. Liam folded his arms and listened to the patter of rain on the rusty roof above him.

?Hey! There?s the house!? Brad said gleefully.
Liam opened his eyes a crack and raised an eyebrow.

?Joy.? He muttered dryly

The wheels of the 4WD made an odd slurping sound as they desperately clawed for traction on the red mud. The house loomed, lights glowing in the fading sunlight. Brad was grinning now. Liam remained silent and brooding over his situation.

The 4WD groaned under pressure and then hit the concrete, putting into the monster of a Titan shed. The engine spluttered and turned off. The sound of thunder rolled and echoed through the metal walls around them.

Liam pulled his gear out of the back, not surprised at the pools of water that dripped off them. He sneezed as the hint of mouldy, sodden straw offended his nostrils.

Brad took one of Liam?s bags off him and commented on the weight,

?Whatcha got in here, guns?? He said jokingly.

Liam glanced at him and said flatly, ?yes.? Before making his way towards the glow of the house.

Brad looked surprised and eyed the bag as though it was going to suddenly explode. Then, mentally reassuring himself, realised that Liam couldn?t possibly be able to carry fire arms, especially if he had been recently arrested for it.

Brad chuckled and hefted the pack, trotting after Liam like and excited Jack Russel.

The trio moved on, turning their back on Jenna. She wouldn't - couldn't - touch them here. Blair, in his direct - albeit nonchalant way - walked over to where the girls were standing. He looked them up and down in a slightly smarmy way, before dismissing Rae and turning to Siren and Jaudiar. "Ladies," he grinned, "Aren't we looking lovely tonight. I'm sure I don't have to remind you who I want taken care of tongiht, but, just for my piece of mind..." he turned and gestured to a balding man with a slight pot belly.

"Yes, Blair," Jaudiar sighed. "We know. Any particular way he wants to die?"

"Sorry, Blair," Siren butted in. "I have a trademark death card up my sleeve, and I'm not abandoning it." Blair looked so disappointed that Rae had to laugh.

The girls walked over to the man, Jaudiar doing her best -and most effective - come hither glance. He walked towards them with a cynical, appraising and slightly bemused expression, as if he knew it was his lucky day, but wasn't sure that it was for real. They grinned, each laughing at his astonishment.

Siren crooked her finger, and they made their way outside. A few metres from the door, Jaudiar turned and whispered to the girls. "Is this far enough?"

"I think so." The man, seeing their intent, tried to scream.

Siren moved in siniously and stuffed a strip of her dress into his mouth.

Siren: Jaudiar?

Jaudiar: Siren. No.

Siren: Aw... Please?

Jaudiar sighed and looked from the quailing man to Siren's hopefull face.

Jaudiar: But you don't have your stuff... Do you?

Siren sighed...

Siren: No... But usualy any old garden shed materials will work...

Jaudiar gave her a startled look. Siren smiled and turned away.

Siren: I'll give you a minuate to think of it... If he dosen't tell you anything, and you decide that torture isn't a good idea... Kill him before I get back...

The man whimpered and she strode back in the way they came. Siren moved towards the bar, and ordered a drink. As she sipped it, a man seated himself next to her. He ordered a beer and turned to her.

Man: So... You havin fun?

His breath smelled like alcohol and he leaned in, his hand sliding up her leg. Siren looked distainfully at him.

Siren: Well... I was...

Man: We could always find a nice *hic* quiet room and I could help ya with your problem...

The man hiccuped again and his fingertip slid under the edge of her skirt. Siren leaned forward, grimaceing at the smell of him. She pulled a knife from her boot top and pressed the razor sharp blade next to his balls.

Siren: Now stay still, or you'll loose somthing really important...

She pushed the blade aginst his thigh, drawing a hairline of blood.

Siren: Stand up with me... Slowly...

He stood, confusion painted on his face...

Siren: Hands off.

He dropped his hands...

Siren: That's better... Good night.

She grabbed him and twisted visciously. He screamed, dropped to the floor and began to writhe in pain... Siren stepped over him to finish her drink...
