MysticBabe
hey, i need all your peoples opinions for these questions. we are doing an etiquette project, and i need opinions! PLEASE AND THANK YOU!!! 1) are good manners lost in todays society? 2) Why don't we have as many manners today. 3) what do you think are some ridiculous manners? THANKS AGAIN!! :D
Corey
Hmmm... I'm game. --------------------------- 1) I would have to say yes. Today as I was disembarking the city bus, a person literally ran into me. She looked at me and told me to (this is a direct quote) "Get the f*** outta my way!". Keep in mind she ran into me, and I had the right of way since I was getting off the bus. 2) It's not that we don't have as many, it's that we don't pay attention to many of them. 3) I think one of the most ridiculous manners is the fact that you are not supposed to be late. Some places in the world consider 'on time' to be about 20 minutes later than the time stated.
Char!

I think people tried manners again after 9/11, but then they found it was too much work. I hate us Americans
We still have the same manners, we just don't put them to use anymore. I think it's because we always have to rush nowadays, and saying "Thank you," "Please," "Good day"... yadda yadda yadda, we get impatient with ourselves. I dunno though, I got zero sleep last night, and I'm functioning off of about 6 1/2 cups of coffee...
Um... if they were ridiculous, then they really wouldn't be manners at all, would they? Sorry, see above if you think I'm nuts...
--Mike
Mitch
1)Are good manners lost in todays society? Yes and no. To an extent there is still manners existing, but to another extent there is not. Manners are kind of a changeable thing, someone will feel in the mood to have manners one day, and the next they won't have manners at all. I've found this to be true in my daily life. Then there's those people who are always using manners, and those who are always not using them. I think it's all a point of choice. 2)Why don't we have as many manners today? Well, because parents don't properly train their kids to use them. That is my main answer, but also, they aren't as big of a deal as they used to be. 3)what do you think are some ridiculous manners? Hmm, well manners aren't ridiculous in my opinion. So I really don't think any manners are riduculous. Some are a hassle, but not ridiculous.
Guest SunRiZe
1) I don't think that manners are lost, they have ceratinly changed alot. 2) We have exactly the same amnount of manners as we have always had, it's just that we ignore them 3) I think manners are quite important, however, saying please and thankyou before or after a request has always baffled me, who ever thought it up? and why? -_- - Manners are very important however, especially in a job interview :D
Angelus_Necare
1. I don't beleive they have been lost, just horridly altered to meet today's standards. 2. I think that was answered in question one. 3. the one I don't get is multiple flatware at the table, I mean one fork is enough isn't it?
amibasuki
1) are good manners lost in todays society? somewhat. yeah, some people are really rude (there've always been rude people), but manners are still there. the difference is manners are more understood than said nowadays. you don't have to actually say 'excuse me' or 'thank you' to people to get your point across for the most part. 2) Why don't we have as many manners today. simply because people are just more casual around each other than in the past. 3) what do you think are some ridiculous manners? the sexist ones, like a girl expecting a guy to do everything for her on a date simply because he's the guy. that's pushing it.
PiroMunkie
1) are good manners lost in todays society? Amongst the general populous, I would say so. Everyone is too busy to notice one another. Also, in today's day and age, it seems to be all about getting places quickly. And, of course, if you are trying to get somewhere quickly, there certainly isn't any time for a simple "Excuse me", "Thanks/Thank you", "You're welcome", or just a simple apology for accidentally bumpnig into someone. 2) Why don't we have as many manners today. I pretty much already answered this. (see above) 3) what do you think are some ridiculous manners? No manners at all.
Anna
1. Are good manners lost in today's society? Definately. Saying "thank you" or "excuse me" doesn't take more than a second to say, and sometimes those small things can really go a long way in your day as well as someone else's. Please, will holding a door open for someone make you any later than what you already are? I sure hope manners, alongside chivalry, isn't totally dead...... 2. Why don't we have as many manners Parents' failure to instill them in recent generations. Not saying that parents who never stressed manners are bad. I do think, however, that manners are important, and that they should be taught. There's no excuse for being rude, no matter how old you are. 3. What do you think are some ridculous manners? No manners that I can think of are "ridiculous", although some may just seem out of place. Of course that's only because no one ever practices them anymore, so even though the act is good and normal, society's gone downhill so much it doesn't recognize it as common. The only thing I can think of that I don't really see as necessary is when a guy pulls out a girl's chair for her to sit down in and then pushes it back for her as she sits down. But beside that, all other etiquette/manners are good to have.

They were made for a good reason at the time, but by now whatever threat that law may have prevented is frivilous or something, but the law is kept because somebody's too lazy to do anything about it. ...yeah... :drunk: --Mike
The Darkness Bu
I'll keep it simple:p 1)pretty much 2)cause the wee ones are becoming even MORE(if possible)uh...how should I put this, snaughty and bad as they age then when we were there age.Like my nephew punched a kid in the mouth the other day and..get this he's in KINDERGARDEN. 3)not really ridicoulous but, elbows not on the table...did anybody obey that rule in the first place? VP-Master
K here goes... 1. While there a lot of nice people in the world today, as a whole population, we can safely say that there a lot of people today that are rude and mean. It's just sad to see how many jerks that are around these days. 2. It's the way we're brought up. Some families (I'm not saying all) don't give as much emspasis on being a nice person and manners are looked over many times in today's society. 3. People say you should eat with your right hand when holding eating utensils. Being left-handed, I really get ticked off at that (even tho it isn't a big deal). It shouldn't be considered good manners just because your eating with the right hand but we're outnumbered like 10 to 1 so right-handed people can take the credit for this... SuruBlu
1. I'd have to say this one depends on location, not to offend anyone but, at least in the U.S., people down in the south are MUCH nicer and have better manners than those in the north. When I went to DC I almost had a fit because everyone was so rude. 2. I hate to restate things but it is the parents responsibilty to teach manners to their kids and they...uh...dont 3. Oh, Oh, I know, the one about not sticking your knife in the ketchup bottle. I mean what is up with that? All I want is some stinkin ketchup! (small tangent here: how come ketchup is supposed to be spelled catsup? I don't get that)
