MathGuy2
I notice a lot of threads will be kind of objectionable for many (especially younger children) - could we have an option to mark a thread "PG13" or "R" or something similar? I don't like the idea of people putting whatever material they want in a post - even though they have a valid point.
Mitch
Well, It's a good idea, but I doubt it will happen. Anyways, I think a persons opinion deserves to be uncensored. Because, if you aren't explicit, then your point won't go across to some people...
Mist
I think it's a great idea. It is important to get one's point across, but what if the point is of a more mature subject, about a subject a ten-year-old wouldn't know about until then? What then? I think it would help OB's community to do so, althouth, I also doubt that it will go through.
Juu
Even if the ten year old kid doesn't know what we're talkin about, they'd learn new words.. ><
RicoTranzrig
I agree that limiting content to a certain extent is a good idea since there are many young people here. And one of our duties is to watch out for that. It's not bad for members to be exposed to different ideas but I don't think we go as far as rating "R" to get our ideas across...
James
I don't think ratings are necessary unless we're talking about RPGs or something of that nature (where there is some creative freedom allowed or whatever). Our site has very specific rules when it comes to flaming and posting coarse language. So in that sense, we ensure that children under 13 are protected from inappropriate language. By the same token, we also ensure that illegal content is not allowed (such as hentai, pirated software, ROMs etc etc). In terms of the actual theme of a thread...well, if a theme is totally ridiculous and utterly inappropriate, then we will most likely remove it in any case. But legitimate discussions do have a place here. And when discussing any subject, I always urge people to be respectful of others and to avoid swearing or flaming. So, yeah...I don't think a TV-style ratings system is appropriate. If there is a thread that you don't like or don't feel comfortable with, you simply don't have to read it or reply to it. Simple as that. We can't always guarantee 100% of the time that people won't be offended. So of course, just as we apply our own rules...we ask members to apply common sense and reason when viewing the boards.
vegeta rocker
i dont think we have any threads that go that far anyway, but i dont have a problem with it.
Guest Matt
Having something that said "This thread is rates R" would just make little kids more eager to click it, no matter what the topic.
MathGuy2
Just let users set an option in profile to not view objectionable posts. If the poster or moderator rates it objectionable, that post is left out of the thread (or thread out of forum) for users with that setting enabled. If a user is under 10, the option cannot be disabled.

Besides, if a kid wants to read a thread, they could disable it then too.

Semjaza
He hasn't been here since June. Bringing back old threads like this is outright pointless, please refrain from it in the future.
