Juu
Well... it seems now-a-days... alot of the ways people talk, and joke revolve around t.v. and pop culture...(music) Everyone talks just like the people they hear on tv, the radio..etc...And it seems our 'vocabulary' seems to be growing larger and larger everytime a new song appears on telelvision... As James said in another thread... it can be very annoying at times... - - What do you think about this? ---- Blah... I'm not sure whether it belongs here or in the music/tv/movies forum... soo... I understand if it's moved... :bluesweat
James
Hm, I think this is relevant here. Not only because of music...but because of general Internet slang. Now, because of Snoop Dog, everything that a rapper says ends with "izzle". It pisses me off, frankly. lol And as I've said a bazillion times...I hate the "u", "ur", "u 2" etc etc...that txt speak. As Flash would say, "it's fine for mobile phones, but not on message boards!"

Mitch
There's so much slang around the world I don't even know where to start. It also made me mad when snoop dog started saying 'izzle', then all these rappers did the same thing. Another thing I can't stand is the word ain't. I mean, it's in the dictionary now, but when someone says it, the second they do, they sound ignorant. Sizzle my dizzle chizzle, lol.
Rancid
Actually the internet slang "u, ur, u2" dosn't bother me, it's there decision how they write on message boards, aim, etc. Frankly I could care less but I guess proper grammer is important.
Kent
Internet language can get on my nerves too, but i dont mind all that much. More of what i care about is the influence hip hop and rap has had on the vocabularies of normal people. I heard about and study and because i dont know where it came from, its suspect to even me, but, the study was based around the use of proper english amongst minorities and not suprisingly it suggested that those who speak with "less than perfect" english were less succesful. I believe it and i find it to be a perfect example of why so many people may be having a hard time assymalating into american culture. We may be rude and loud in the eyes of the international community but i would like it if i could just understand the other people my age. I mean come on, ebonics, is that really a language. DeathKnight
What the izzle is up my dogizzles? I hate people online who use CONSTANT internet slang. I can take a good load of it, but when all you say is internet slang, then it gets to being more than a tad bit on my nerves. -- -K
PiroMunkie
Yo, I ain't gots a clue as to what you be talkin' 'bout. Fo' shizzle ma nizzle, yo. ::shudders:: It made me almost want to vomit typing that. Although it's fun to speak normally to those people anmd confuse them with the smallest of words. 'Net talk' drives me insane. I mean, I can understand 'lol' and those kind. Those symbolize an action more than a word. But when one is infected with that one "Kuja-disease".. then it's just wrong. Although you can get back at them by correcting them. :p

Red
I, like Son Goten, don't mind txt speak being used in online games, as most of the time you don't have the time to type the full sentence out. But online, or just chatting to friends, it drives me up the wall. There is no hurry to type something or to use grammar when chatting to someone online. Also, l337 makes me want to tear my hair out and eat it, just there seems to be a whole society behind the whole code now, especially in online gaming. People who constantly write like "j00 sux0rz d00d", normally end up speaking like that too. Thats one of the main reasons I like OtakuBoards so much, almost all of the people here can actually write a full sentence.

Leet is wierd but, stuff like "C ya" "u 2" and "l8r" don't bug me at all, if some wants to communicate in net slang, he/she is free to do so, and not in the least would it bug me. But I myself am partial to normal english.
Semjaza
ASLPSXKTHXBYE Eh... I am use to the standard abbreviations. I mean, lol is fine... I am not going to type "I am laughing." or something stupid like that. I hate stuff like u, y or @ used in place of words. Is it honestly that difficult to type an extra letter or two? In terms of boards, I would like if it people wrote well... Not really like perfect or anything, but none of this "ur" crap either. That stuff belongs in chat rooms where you have to actually type quickly to get something in, or on phones because they are a pain to write with. I think the main problem is that everyone I know personally that does that is a moron, so I just automatically assume that anyone that writes like that is an idiot. Don't mean to, but it happens. wrist cutter
This quote needed to be brought up again... "I do talk more intelegantly on the net." Ah, some people.. Anyway, I really hate internet slang... in my eyes, you just look idiotic while I read your posts if you do use constant abbreviations. Usually those who do produce sloppy sentences, repeat words often, and generally have low quality posts... just look stupid. I used to know some people who were very, very lazy with their typing... "was" = "wuz" and "ur" = "your" and such... but as they improved their typing it was like wow! You aren't as dumb as you came off as originally. Axel--Ignition
I still can't figure what LMAO means... Most of the stuff doesn't bother me unless its L337 or a constant abbreiviation in a sentence, like what I heard Kuja say once: OMG! Lol! U r soooo stupid! Hahaha! amiboshi
I don't like too many abbreviations.... I still can't understand why people use "wuz" instead of was....I mean....it's the same number of letters, so what's the point? I don't mind lol, since I use that too, but that almost seems to have become the equivalent of a "cyber laugh" than an abbreviation. I hate when people use 8's in a word, though. Like L8er....it takes me longer to read that than normal english, that's for sure. Also, lmao....I always have to try and remember which each letter means because people make so many different combinations. There's lmao, lmfao, etc. It just takes more time than necessary to read these things, which is a pain if there's like a paragraph of it... Something else that bugs me are the common mistakes people seem to repeatedly make in their English. They don't know which "to/too" to use, its/it's or there/they're/their. I learned those things in second grade, and people use them incorrectly all the time.... -.-
Guest Matt
I think the single, most annoying combination of letters created by the internet ir "a/s/l" if someone IMs me and says that, *block*. I actually learned how to type in a chatroom, ages ago. It was a nice chatroom....intelligent people, decent grammar, a few good discussions. I learned internet slang in self-defense when I ventured out of that one little chatroom into the rest of the big scary internet. I know some wonderful, intelligent people from school and other areas of my life...but get them on an IM service, and you would have no idea they had the grammatical intelligence of the average thirteen year old. I really wouldn't call all the new slang and net-speak "vocabulary." If anything, society's grasp of vocabulary is deteriorating. Less time, faster everything, smaller words.... Tch. It saddens me. Amphion
I think my favorite is the whole "herre" thing. Then I was shocked when I actually heard someone say, "Its hot in herre." and was serious about it. I have nothing against new words. But Herre, Shizzle and slang like: Guard your grill, just gets on my nerves. I know these words are used primarily by Rappers but more and more kids are begining to pick it up. I have nothing against rappers, but...come on....Shizzle?????? I agrea about the whole txt words. They get old too. Its all part of how our culture is continuing to grow more and more...l...a...z...y. I agrea, by all means it is okay when you playing a game. Dragons are not kind enough to let you type a message to your buddy. And AIM I can understand a few. But there is no excuse for their use at message boards. BTW* I finally figured out LMAO, but I still dont know IMO.
Sara
IMO=In My Opinion. [Sometimes IMHO, In My Humble Opinion, or IMNSHO, In My Not So Humble Opinion.] I can understand the use of shorthand in a chatroom or IM box...to an extent. 'BRB' is useful, as is 'GTG,' when one must leave on short notice, and doesn't wish to just rudely disappear without explanation.
