Wuz up ya'll? lol

LMAO means laugh my (insert explitive) off for the person who asked. Anyway, slang doesn't bother me so long as I can understand what is being said. I don't hate internet slang if I can figure out abbreviations but, when a post is pratically littered with Internet slang and it takes at least a minute just to figure out one or two lines, then I quit. Is it so hard to just say what you are getting at?

As for rap slang, it doesn't bother me if there is a legitimate reason to use it. I, personally, come from a family that lives in the south, were a lot of families (including my own) are lower-middle class, on welfare and/or had no education greater than 4 years of high school. Even though I'm one of the lucky ones who grew to be "educated", having lived with "uneducated" family who speak "ebonics" my whole life, I often pick up their way of speaken. So yes, even I will say phrases that destroy the English language (We ain't got no (whatever word you want to use)). Ironically, I'm an English major.:laugh:

So "ebonics" doesn't bother me, since even I use it at times, nor do I find people calling me "dawg" or "playa" effecting in any way, either because a) that's the mindset I grew up around or b). I just don't care if it is a random person so why should I expect him/her to do the same. I don't find people who use "ebonics" to be stupid or "uneducated" because I know a lot of people who speak in "broken" English, yet are very intelligent, depending on how you use the word. It's when people use ebonics to make themselves look cool, like Snoop Dogg etc., that irks me, because it seems our whole lives revolve around being like our favorite musicians. Dear lord, make it stop.

Internet slang doesn't bother me at all. To me, its just a way of someone being themselves. You may hate it, but you can't force someone to change it just because "you" hate it. Now, I haven't heard anyone say words like "izzle" or "herre" around my area. Especially in high media areas like New York and instead alot of people I've met actually say some pretty high level words. (Maybe its the college influence.....:confused: )Perhaps the only thing I say I hate about slang is when someone uses alot of curse words. I may hate it, but I respect the person because thats how he/she can be comfortable.

*bats the message away futilely* I've been staring at this thing for 15 minutes, and I still can't figure it out! I even copied it down...but no...*shudder* this is going to plauge me for the rest of (however long it takes for someone to tell me what it says).

Considering the fact that I drive myself crazy trying to interpret L33T, its a basic fact that I cannot stand it. Brb is fine, as is g2g, but when it takes me longer to read than it would to type in the first place, that's where I draw the line.

I can put up with people talking computerish - as I call it - as in - gtg, C u l8r - though I don't really enjoy it. Acutally, no one I know is THAT bad with it.

Most of the people I talk to KNOW how to talk, and I am thankful for that. I use the basic ones though - lol or lmao or even imo. I think the abbreviations are a lot better then the whole screwed up words like people subbing U for You, etc etc. Sometimes, you need to shorten your message if you are in a hurry to say something - brb is good, since I don't feel like typing it out, just to have someone reply and make me stay around a bit longer ^_^

I don't know, perhaps that is a double standard? *looks at double standards topic* . . hmmm.

When I used to play Everquest, some of the more experienced players would use 'L337 74lk' . . as you can tell, I could never talk like that. Every time I did, I just wondered if anyone else knew what I was talking about. The biggest problem with that was that it took too long to understand what someone was saying, that the text was either scrolled up too far, or I zoned and couldn't see what they said =P (zoned has to do with leaving one area and loading up the next)

Try being called "Hey, Light-Skinned Girl!" every day. -__-;; Internet slang has really started to get on my nerves as of late. At first, I didn't mind it, and even used it myself on occasion, but now, too many people have come down with kuja syndrome. I can't stand it! If you're going to type something, type it right, or don't type it at all. Your fingers won't fall off if you type out the whole word.

Bleh, I hate, absolutely hate it when peole type as horrible as above. I think some people are just so ignorant not to understand that when you are chatting or whatever that the way you type dictates how intelligent someone is going to think you are. I just don't get that they can't understand that.

"y'all gon' hip-hop th club and pop-pop, y'all best not be bustin a cap in y'all ***, or im gon'come tic-tac yo sorry glass and tip the numbers, cause i can't do 45 without my wording."

if soeone said this to me, i would find it quite acceptable. that's how much i don't care.

Well... it seems now-a-days...
alot of the ways people talk, and joke revolve around t.v. and pop culture...(music)

Everyone talks just like the people they hear on tv, the radio..etc...And it seems our 'vocabulary' seems to be growing larger and larger everytime a new song appears on telelvision...

As James said in another thread... it can be very annoying at times... - -

What do you think about this?
----

Blah... I'm not sure whether it belongs here or in the music/tv/movies forum... soo... I understand if it's moved... :bluesweat
I know what you mean! I find it very annoying when, just because someone "cool" says something its the newest word. I mean jesus christ we hear it enough! I don't need to hear it at school, at home, and at the mall! Its like a pest that won't go away. Oh well. All you gotta do is grit your teeth and go through it. But I agree with you VERY annoying!

Yes James I agree with you internet lingo is very annoying on boards and interent sites. Now if its on an instant messanging thats fine, but on a board....no.

Quite frankly, the use of improper grammer is one of my biggest pet peeves. It just drives me nuts to hear people saying "who you is" or other exapmles of bad grammer. It's not so bad in kids, kids can be expected to follow the rappers and talk as if they've never had an english lesson in their life, but when grown adults do it it just drives me insane. Its the same when people try chop off some message length by using "ur" and "g2g", although I dont mind that so much as when they do this "1 g2g c ya l8er" or "omg d1d u c t4at n3w m0v13?" I could just strangle people like that, L1k3, 1 cud r33Ly ]us7 k1ll pplz l1k3 7h47.

Whoa, thats embarrassing, and after I just ranted and raved about good grammar too.:rolleyes:
Well, Grammar and spelling are two different things. I have this thing about Grammar too (despite my constant capitalization of grammar) but I can't spell perfectly and often typo and misspell alot of complicated words. (isn't a lot two words?)

Oh maybe its because you are so lazy! Lazy!! Thats right Chris you are lazy!!! :p!

Seriously though, I think many people have a problem with other peoples grammer and I think its agreed that since so many people feel the same way the bar should be raised! Of course I shouldn't be talking I don't have the BEST grammer but its ok. Heh.

Yeah and that l33t stuff annoys the heck out of me. Why can't you just say "Hi" ?!

And as I've said a bazillion times...I hate the "u", "ur", "u 2" etc etc...that txt speak. As Flash would say, "it's fine for mobile phones, but not on message boards!"
Yeah, they use it in instant messaging a lot. I have AIM, and I use it a lot! I use these "abbreviations" a lot:

y=why
wynaut=why not (that's a Pokemon:laugh:!)
qt=cutie
ru=are you
w8=wait
brb=be right back
bai=goodbye
2=to
4=for
o=oh
c=see
b=be
1=won
oic=oh I see
g2g: got to go

There are many more, but that's what I normally use. When I AIM, my spelling and grammar usually makes little sense! ;)
