Guest Matt
Well, I just saw this movie today. It is one of the freakiest movies I have seen in a long time. Robin Williams is great playing a psycho. I recomend that everyone see it. To people who have already seen it, how did you like it? And please don't say things that will ruin the movie for others.
Transtic Nerve
I think it was a very odd decision to cast Robin Williams as a mad man, in this case a very dramatical role. But in a way, it was a good choice. Not just for Robin WIlliams himself, but for the whole ideal of the movie. A guy known for his humor playing a completely dramatic role in a movie which is an oddball in itself. Shows different ranges ofthe really good actors. Precisely why you'll never see Pauly Shore in a drama. Anyway, haven't seen it, probably won't anytime soon.
Semjaza
I posted about this in that old summer movies thread we had in here. I first heard about it when SLS News posted something about the possibility of Trent Reznor doing the score... Of course that fell through, like always. The movie seemed pretty damn good though. Robin Williams is good at playing a villain even though people consider him only a comedian. Never once in Insomniac did I expect him to start acting like Mrs. Doubtfire or something, he was easy to take seriously. I don't think that would work with someone like Jim Carrey for example lol. Looking forward to it's release on DVD... Not a big theater person :).

I hope he does more movies like this and Insomnia, which was good by the way.
eleanor
I thought the little Evangelion part was funny. The movie was good, and it was pretty freaky. I never would have thought Robin Williams to be someone like that, and his obsession was just....O__o. Anyways, I liked the movie a lot.
Guest Matt
Woah bumped. This topic reaks of over 8 months of old. This year, he gave out huge glowsticks. ^_^;; I've been trying to get my hands on this movie forever. Since Robin Williams lives so close to me, I've slowly become a fan of his. Especially since he gave us that neat sound system for our auditorium. ^^
eleanor
WHAT? I want huge glowsticks... You can just go to Blockbuster or something and rent it. It's a good movie.
Manic Webb
Ay! Matt's right. If there's a thread that's over a month old and not on the first page anymore, feel free to start a new thread. I mean, September 2002?! Anyway, this thread is on the first page now, and people are posting in it, so don't go starting any new One Hour Photo threads until people stop posting in this one for over a month. Guest Oddsock
If you guys are suprised that Robin Williams can play a dramatic part then you really need to watch The Fisher King. He is absolutely brilliant as a schizo homeless man, very good movie.
saintseven
F*CKING GREAT MOVIE!! I loved it!! Robin can act so well, and thus, making him forever, one of my favorites!!
ThePikasElbow
It's a good movie, I liked it. Those who doubt Williams acting ability should go watch Good Will Hunting. He even won an oscar for his performance. While he has gained the reputation for being a goofy guy, he can be very intense and serious when he has to be. Anyways, the movie is very good. Sy is a great, tragic character and Williams does a great job portraying him. The story is interesting too, although I expected the photography aspect to be creepier, such as the film Peeping Tom. The directing was also from a newcomer who has just done music videos. I think he did a good job; it was very stylish and modern. Also, there were quite a few references to anime and such. The boy wanted an Evangelion toy, the boy had a Gundam toy in his dream, the boy was also playing DOA2 at one point, and Sy was watching The Simpsons at one point. Lady Macaiodh
Disturbing, but good. I still can't get over the fact that he fantisized about taking a **** in their toilet, though. Good lord. Leave it to me to focus on that...
NorykoAngelcry
I really enjoyed this movie. I really like Robin Williams in more serious roles. Insomnia and One Hour Photo are two excellent movies that show how versitile he can really be (Yes, I know that he has been in a lot more serious movies then this, but my friend brought both over a few weeks ago, so those are the freshest on my mind). I think my favorite part of the movie was
when Sy was standing in the middle in the aisle in the store he worked at - everything was clean and nice, the aisles were all perfect - And when the camera closed in on Sy's face, his eyes opened and blood just poored out. . it was an amazing scene.
Also, watching the behind the scenes, it showed that they had everything's color done in a very drab look and matched Williams' character so that he 'blended' in with everything. . It was pretty cool hearing about that.
James
Hm, well...I might as well post in here. It's on the first page, afterall. I've only just seen One Hour Photo. Very good (and weird) movie. There is so much social commentary here...you could discuss this kind of movie for weeks on end and still have new things to talk about. The directing was particularly good and I think it really made the movie so visually powerful. Of course, Robin Williams is a great actor. Sy is such a disturbing man for many reasons...it's hard to imagine Robin Williams being like that, but it works. Very good movie. ^_^
Dmitri_Dragoon
I've not seen the movie yet, but from what I've heard it is really good. It's kind of cool that somebody who usually does a comic role can do a dramatic one just as well. Other dramatic Robin Williams movie is What Dreams May Come and Jakob the Liar. Both are very good and I highly reccomend them both.
Semjaza
I've not seen it in quite a while at this point now, but I thought it was an amazingly good movie. The storyline is just so well setup. They get you pulled in from the start. You want to know what's in the envelope. You want to know what Cy (I think that's the spelling) actually did. Robin Williams acted the part perfectly. I'm glad he is branching out. He really can give off a very creepy vibe. My favorite part
is when you see him in the family's house. You are lead to believe he shouldn't be there, and then the family walks in and they both just stare at eachother. You're thinking "oh crap," because at this point you don't know if he is imagining it or really in there. Then they all just start talking like they've known eachother all their lives, and it cuts back to him sitting in his car dreaming.
I really liked it. NorykoAngelcry
I really enjoyed that scene too Semjaza - I think it worked a lot better, because
Sy seemed just as stunned as the audience was about them just talking to him as casually as they were =)

Fall
I really didn't like it. Some of the time I could tell what was going to happen.. and it did. It was just so boring. Just like any other "late night" movie if you ask me.. in other words, crap.
Shaun
I tell you...it freaked me out. I had always wondered what some of those people who worked in photo labs were really thinking...now I'm even more disturbed...*contimplates learning to develop his own film* Not that I have anything to hide...but still.
