there aren't a whole lot of good ones here... i'm talking about magazines about anime, not manga anthologies..

i read animerica and anime invasion, i don't know any other magazines, but if you do, could you inform me? there are some magazines for particular series, like dbz and pokemon, but im not interested in those.

I pick up an Animerica whenever I see one, but thats all I've ever seen. I've only seen it at Blockbuster, and the stores in my town only sell Videogame,Fitness,Hunting, and porn mags.

There is always Animerica Extra... which really is just a manga compilation with some Japanese culture stories mixed in. I think the manga in it right now is Utena, Chicago, Video Girl AI, Fushugi Yugi and some others I can't remember. Animerica is seperate of course, but doesn't really interest me.

There is a magazine called Play here. It's a video game, movie and anime entertainment magazine. I've never bothered to check it out, but I've heard good things.

Wizard puts out something called Anime Invasion... But I've never bought this either. If it's anything like Wizard I'm not interested lol.

Then of course there are always the online e-zines such as www.atanime.com

Here I come to save the day, you guys wanted anime magazines that weren't primarly Manga related ones. Well the only ones that cross my mind are:

Animerica
ProtoCulture Addicts
Newtype Magazine

As for anime mags that are mostly manga's

There is Shoujin Jump
Ramjin Comics
Animerica Extra

Thats about it. There are a couple of japanese magazines out also in import shops but I'm sure though most of you can't read japanese. So I hope this helps you guys out.

There was TokyoPop, but I wouldn't be surprised if they quit publishing their magazine, especially since they just discontinued Smile magazine, which really upset me. I liked TokyoPop and it wasn't just anime and manga, it was the whole Japanese culture. It was a very interesting read.

Well its rather expensive but the dvds they give you are promotional material for adv and other companies, basically the dvd contains promotional trailers and two episodes of the latest anime series for that company dubbed.

Personally I don't think its worth the price, especially when they give out new type magazines for free at anime conventions.

newtype??? i didnt hear of it till this thread, but i went to the site.. 90 bucks to subscribe, 10 bucks an issue..... seriously.

um ,i wouldnt really think of subscribing, or probably buying the mag before i glanced through it.. it didn't sound like anything more than animerica, possibly less.

for ten bucks you can get a tokyopop "uthentic" manga....

Only book I know was already mentioned...Animerica. As far as subscription goes, according to this 2 year old postcard order its $50 for one year and $96 for two. And if you with with the Animercia Extra option, its $83 bucks for a year. I always wanted to subscribe but I only seen one book and that was a LONG time ago (2 years I think, I liked the one I saw though cause of the art and they reviewed the Perfect Grade Wing Zero Custom model, which by the way, was the first time I saw that thing.) Anyone still read Animerica around here? If so, is it still any good?

I read animarica, since they have it at the Kinyokunia store here, in Japantown. ^^
I also read some of the Korean ones, one of them is called 'Anime World' except, in Korean...
My dad's buying me some Japanese magazines also, since he wants me to learn how to read Japanese... He puts on this stupid tape that repeats like, 20 japanese words over...and.. over... T_T

I still read Animerica but I only buy it on occasion now because it, like everything else, is getting a little mainstream, if you know what I mean. But it's still nice nonetheless. Speaking of TokyoPop manga, they put out the very BEST and I love collecting them. And for only ten dollars, too! I got Chobits volume 3 and Paradise Kiss volume 3 last night. :D And they were released two weeks early at my Media Play! :)
