I don't take chemistry! Well, not yet anyway.):blah:
I took chemistry last year when I was 13. It was only a simple chemistry class, but I learned enough to know that yes, water doesn't really change when it's boiled. The H2O molecules move faster when they're heated, and when they're heated to a high enough temperature, they get moving so fast that their gravitational force won't hold them together. So, the molecules break up from one another, and float up into the air as a gas. So, yeah, the water is changing physically, not chemically, like Cera said. And yeah, if you think water tastes bad after being boiled, you must like the taste of bacteria, lol. ;) Oh...and when I first joined, I didn't see anyone using the indigo color. So, since violet is my favorite color and since no one else was using it, I started using it for all of my posts. Quit stealing my color. :p But, anyway, back onto the real subject, lol. It turns out there isn't E. coli in our water. Apparently, the guy that was taking the water samples screwed up and the E. coli found in the original samples came from somewhere else. So, the tap water is safe, and I don't have to drink bottled water anymore. Yay! :) (I can't actually tell the difference between it and the tap water, it's just annoying to have to drink water out of a bottle instead of a glass.
vegeta rocker
Originally posted by PiroMunkie ... Water doesn't have a flavor to begin with, lol. If it did, then we wouldn't have 'flavored water' (the kind that is carbonated and tastes like different fruits and stuff). Drinking water is like breathing air, unless there's something altered about it, it shouldn't really have a taste.
(smacks head) what i meant to say is devoid of any fresh taste, boiled water tastes yucky. Yes yucky is a scientific term.:wigout:

The thing is, it's as you say, like air. If you move from an area with clean air to an area with polluted air, you can easily smell the pollution. Similarly, if you always live in a moderately polluted (nothing really major, and move to an area with clean air, the air actually has a cleaner smell, rather than just a lack of a dirty smell. In the same way, water appears to have no taste because we get used it, and it seems tasteless. but if you move to a different area with different ions in the water it tastes different. Generally, most people don't like boiled water because it tastes somehow 'flatter' than normal water. The reason for this is that the IONS in the water become seperated, and so the water loses it's taste. the H2O element doesn't change, but it may lose calcium ions and whatever else may be in it. Duo Maxwell
I hate the flavor of rain, mountain and spring water one reason I don't buy it bottled. I'm used to boiling water though. My mum always boiled it when I was younger, its always been that way. I couldn't imagine just getting water from the tap and putting it in a bottle to cool in the fridge  its like the law to boil it or something with me. Of course I still drink from taps thats only at school though, my mum never likes that thought either just like sharing drink bottles. so I guess I'm like the only person to like boild water or something hey :bluesweat
