MadTV going downhill

Is it me or is MadTV less funny now than it's ever been? I blame it on the loss of certain cast members. I mean, Will Sasso left the show! He was nearly in every sketch on the show. Sure, Aries Spears, Michael McDonald, and Mo Collins are there, but that leaves them with Bonifa, Stuart, and a Denzel Washington impersonator. Oh well.

What do you think of the show?

Oh god, definately. I used to watch it a lot until several months ago. The show used to have great skits, and quite a few talented cast members. Then like 2 weeks ago I went to watch it again (I stopped because of my old job), and it was one of the worst things I ever saw. I used to be one of the few people that preferred the show over SNL, as crazy as that sounds. Now it's tripe.

I'd blame key members leaving and just poor writing to the show's downfall. The same thing happened to In Living Color.

It was funny it's first season. But I hated it after that. I get MAD magaize and lvoe it, but the show is nothing like the magaize. I love SNL tho. Will Farrel and Chris Kattan are funny as hell.

Will Sasso was THE best thing about the show. MadTV was only good because of him in my humbled opinion. Two words - Steven Segal! That was one of the funniest skits on the show I ever saw. Most of the others on the show are just way too scary to watch more then three minutes *shudders*

I have not seen MadTV in some time, so I can not say that I even knew about Will Sasso leaving. That is pretty upsetting, but oh well. I don't watch a lot of shows that I used to. At least TNN still shows reruns of the show pretty frequently.

I suppose they will have their few skits/characters that will be funny to watch, but . . it just won't be the same, lol.

As for SNL, I love the oldies, the only thing I really look forward to on the new episodes is the Weekend Update. Jimmy Fallon and Tina Fey(spelling might be off) are just so funny. They are really funny doing their job, and seem to have a good enough time doing it, which of course makes it more enjoyable to watch. I am not saying that the others aren't funny, but those two are my favorites. =)

I haven't been watching MadTV in a while. I agree about "In Living Color" especially when the entire Wayans family was no longer involved. As for SNL, I really never found the show funny. It just seems too intellectual in teh humor department for my taste, especially the current episodes. I like Weekend Updates and "The Ambiguously Gay Duo" (I don't hate gays nor am I gay. I just find it funny for some sad reason)but that's about it.

To tell the truth, I haven't watched the show on Fox since two seasons ago. I caught a couple episodes last season, but that was about it. I didn't notice Will Sasso was gone until last night (my cousin pressured me into watching it because Jackie Chan was their guest) when he seemed to be missing from the opening credits. It's sad that the entire show will have to be carried by Michael McDonald and Mo Collins (who seem to do every sketch together) from now on.
Debra Wilson is still there, but they don't give her good skits anymore.

I watch SNL every now and then, but the only good part of the show is Weekend Update. Jimmy Fallon is good, but Tina Faye is funnier (in my opinion). Will Farrel left that show, too. Now who's gonna play G.W. Bush? Who?!

Saying that Mad TV has gone downhill implies that it was uphill in the first place. o_O

Hehe, just kidding. It was okay in the first place...but not great. Many of the skits were painfully obvious and highly predictable.

But it did have its funny moments occasionally.

I've always considered it better than SNL, and please no one kill me... *ducks*

Actually, I agree with you. It's way better than snl.

The only thing keeping SNL on the air is the fact that it's SNL. It was the first (as far as I know) sketch comedy show and a very original idea when it first aired, but now its cast members aren't even that funny anymore. The humor is still on the same level it was on in the 70s, which isn't really a good thing. Still has its moments though.

I don't think the "Stuart" sketch is that funny anymore and I wanna know where the blankity-blank Will Sasso has gone to! Oh well. I'm sure his career will go on, like Phil Lamar's did.

It's not really the first, but sometimes I think the fact that the early years of it were so incredibly good are what's keeping it afloat now. I watch SNL and simply rarely laugh. Their running skits just aren't funny to me, and I wonder how any people think some of the are worthy of a movie.

... Phil who? :smirk:

Char!
He was the hyper-active UBS (UPS joke) guy on MadTV. He was also the Funky Walker, Dirty Talker. Nowadays, he does a lot of voice acting, like Green Lantern from Justice League and Samurai Jack.

I use to watch it like...2 years ago bt thn the skits ot a little boring. I like the show back when it had Phil La Marr,Orlando Jones, an a fatter Will Sasso the good old days of the show in my opinion. My favorite skit was the Terminator Jesus one I thought it was hillarious and still do. The show got to...slap sticky after a while, which is okay the first 15 minutes but after that you kid of want them to make actual jokes. After I got bored of Mad TV I discovered SNL as many others. How you guys can compae he greatness that is SNL to...Mad TV is beyond me.

I also want to mentin that Phil la Marr did the voice of Vamp for Metal Gear Solid 2.

I knew I was forgetting a major Phil Lamarr voice.

I think SNL and MadTV are funny in two completely different ways. MadTV depends mostly on its slap-stick and physical jokes, while Saturday Night Live has a lot of verbal humor. That's why there's so many mixed opinions about both. SNL is so verbal a blind person can enjoy it. MadTV's dialogue doesn't mean a thing unless you get the visual effect.
