Charles
Well, you might be interested in checking out Robotech: BattleCry, which should be released by now for the Playstation 2. The game is supposedly disappointing in the respect that it doesn't include many anime clips from the show, but the actual cel shaded graphics engine should come pretty close to replicating it with nice explosions and smoke. From what I've read, the game is pretty average, so you might want to rent it unless you're a big Robotech mark. At least it has multiplayer mode for up to two players though. Another game that comes to mind is Front Mission, by Square I believe. I didn't actually own this game, as it was my friend's, but it seemed to be a stragtegy RPG in the same vein as Final Fantasy Tactics. I doubt that the gameplay is too similar, and I can't make a strong claim seeing as how I've never bothered with the game, but it probably includes many of the same elements. If you have an Xbox lying around, I suggest going to that respective forum and finding out about that monster mech title that Capcom's sitting on. That is, if you feel like shelling out a fortune for the custom control pad. ;)
Semjaza
There are 3 mech games currently out for Xbox that I know of... Robotech and Steel Battalion (that game with the $200 controller) were mentioned. There is also Gun Metal (I think that's what it was calleD), which I haven't personally played. It kind of slipped out of everyone's view, not many people seem to know about it. There are a few others coming up, most notably Murakumo by From Software. It's looking pretty impressive, and it was released in Japan recently. As for PSX/PS2... There is the Armored Core series, which I've never really played. There is a game called Carnage Heart for PSX, which is extemely rare right now. It was mostly about building your own mechs and stuff, supposedly very complex and strategic. Front Mission 3 is an excellent game though. It is comparable to FF Tactics in a way... Except of course it has more a of sci-fi theme with all the mechs and all. Certainly worth the 15 bucks I paid for it lol. There is also Ring of Red, which is another game I never played. It sounded like it only appealed to people really into the genre though. Domon
I've got the Robotech Battlecry game and i must admit the cel shading is very well thought out. Also it has very cool music graphics etc. It may be an average game to some but i say with all the little goodies sprinkled about it makes me drool whenever i start it up and start playing. But I heard that Robotic Alchemic Drive is coming out this November, oh did anyone mention Zone of the Enders and its upcoming sequel?? i've played Armored Core 2 and it really wasn't my cup of tea, i mean the mechs are slow the graphics are okay but ack i hate the controlls for it!! I majorly sugguest you buy Robotech, Gundam Fed vs Zeon, Zone Of the Enders (if you can find it), Robotic Alchemic Drive (when it comes out), oh if you really want to i'd say also buy Gundam Journey to Jaburo. Kent
I actually have zone of enders and I really didnt think it was all that great. as for ac2, I think it appeals to the more realistic side of mechs. Its all about realism, although I will admit the controls do leave something to be desired. I still say ac2 is awesome. But now my intrest is on the robotech and gundam stuff. Im having a hard time getting to try them, but Im sure the effort to find them and the wait will be worth it. Just one question, I heard that the feddy gundam in fed vs zeon has a big sheild and never uses it, is this true?
