James
Okay, right now I'm at the Calm Lands. I've hung around there for a while (captured the fiends required to open the Arena) and I've fought once at Remiem Temple. Right now, I want to try and level up as much as I can. I already know what I want to do with most characters, but there's a problem -- none of the enemies in the Calm Lands gives me enough Ability Points to really get some good levelling up. I foresee myself spending 20 hours or more in that one place, fighting over and over, just to get anywhere. So with that in mind, does anyone have any useful advice? I would really like to take this opportunity to backtrack and build up my characters a lot more before I continue. That way, I'll be able to focus more time on finding secrets later on. So, yeah. If anyone remembers this part of the game well...some advice would be most appreciated. :)
Guest QuickSilver
A good way to level up will be to equip a weapon with double AP on it, sorry but that is the best advice i can give without telling you to move on any futher than what you are. GinnyLyn
Are you willing to go to the Omega Ruins, James? It's a secret location, and you have to guess the coordinates whilst on Cid's airship. (I know them if you want them, but that takes out the secret part, now doesn't it? ;)) Omega Ruins is the absolute best place to level up, although I'd recommend that every character is at least up to 3000 HP (give or take for Lulu and Yuna), and that someone has Flee. If you aren't careful, you will die. Stick close to the save point at the entrance--remember, save points instantly heal you, and give you a chance to run back to the Airship as needed. Spoilers About What Legendary Weapons Have (Highlight if you wish to read) For me, I had Auron's Masamune completely unlocked, giving him First Strike, plus the Flee ability. That took care of any potential dangerous situations. There's also the Double AP, Triple Overdrive, and Break Damage Limit, making Auron downright lethal. Yuna's Nirvana, once unlocked, also gives you Double AP, One MP, Triple Overdrive, and something else... Rikku's Godhand has Double AP, Gillionare (for you peeps who need money bad for Yojimbo), Break Damage Limit, and Triple Overdrive. I dunno what the others have...haven't powered them up yet...V_V End Spoilers If you don't want to go to Omega Ruins just yet, go for the Legendary Weapons (if you know how). This will not only level up your charas tiny bit by tiny bit (and yes, little bits do eventually add up), but allow you to get the abilities that will level up your characters that much faster. Catch 22, I know, but once you find, unlock, and powerup the Legendaries, it is beyond wonderful. Or search for the other Summons. What your characters themselves may lack, your Summons will more than make up for. Trust me.
conpiracymonki
I'm in the Calm Lands too... -_-' But I'm not so ahead... I got to fight the defender X, (I died first try), so I'm building up a while If you equip the Herding Staff, and kill a monster with an Aeon, will it be captured?
SephirothNIN
Nope you have to kill them with the actual weapon. I'm not sure if tidus/auron/wakka's ovrdrives will capture an enemy, or things such as quick hit. If you really want to go back, sidetrack, and do all that, you should just go on ahead. There's only 2 areas to plow through until you can go anywhere you want w/ the airship, and it saves you a lot of walking. Where you are now there's no better place to level up, so if it's not doing any good, keep moving forward, the enemies will get stronger and give u more ap. GinnyLyn
Which just goes to show it's a waste of money to buy the Herding Staff or the...whatever Lulu's version is. ^_^;
conpiracymonki
lol, all that Gil spent on the annoying summoner... Anyway, I beat my first not-tutorial Marlboro and I got average AP *sigh* Anyway, I'm getting real good at Blitzball, and I win Tournaments with 10 or so more goals than any other striker. I rock.. (except stupid level 6 datto)
Mitch
Ah yes, the Calm Lands. I also stayed there for quite some time just leveling up. James, really, if you want to get anywhere else you should leave the Calm Lands soon, and just get on with the game. I mean no really hard boss fights come up until later on. Leveling up really doesn't do much until near the end of the game when you finally get to the Omega Ruins...but until then, you really don't get any major experience. So really I would continue on, I'm sure you can survive with wit alone.
conpiracymonki
In the Calm Lands...is there anything to do except capture fiends? I fought summoner who gives the Aeon's Soul, and she mentioned Remiem Temple. I also remember my cousin going there on a chocobo in this area. Can you do this before defeating the Defender X?
GinnyLyn
Ah, you're talking about Belgimine (sp). If you go by that store in the middle of the Calm lands, you can get access to a Chocobo, and Remiem Temple too. But I'll let you figure out how. HINT: You HAVE to have the Chocobo to find it. I am SUCH a doofus, James--I assumed that you were leveling up in the Calm Lands after the fact...anotherwords, after you had already gone to Zanarkand. Sorry, my bad. Mt. Gagazet is a good place to level up--after you get past Defender X. I don't recall if you can get to Remiem temple before Defender X, but I KNOW you can't get to the Stolen Fayth Temple under after you beat Defender X. Getting all the fiends for all the areas of the Arena is another good way to level up.
James
Okay, I've already been to Remiem Temple and fought Belgimine's first summon (and defeated it). I also did the Chocobo race there. What is Defender X? Is that the big robot that you fight right after you exit the Calm Lands?
GinnyLyn
The big golem thingy, yeah. Actually, now that I think of it, the Stolen Fayth Temple is another good place to level up. It is in the Calm Lands--you'll know it when you get there, trust me.
Corey
You mean I can't get the Stolen Fayth now.. Well she'it... I recommend getting to Mt. Gagazette... Now I'm all sad...
James
Stolen Fayth Temple? Where is that? o_O;; And what is that button on the wall, at the very northeast corner of the map? (Where the guy tells you that you "can't go back there"). I know how to get rid of him, but I don't know what object I need to activate that thing on the wall. But anyway, what you're saying is that I should get a bit further in the game...and then start levelling up?

The Stolen Fayth temple is underneath that bridge at that place once you exit the Calm Lands, I think; it's all very vague in my mind.
GinnyLyn
I've answered your questions below, James, but I dunno if they are spoilers for you, so highlight at your descretion(sp?). ;) *AnimeLover's all over it. Stolen Fayth temple is beneath the bridge, and like I said, good place to level up. And by the northeast bit, you mean the tiny ledge that kinda grips the side of the canyon? Yeah, that's part of Tidus' Legendary Weapon bit. You need the Celestial Mirror to get it. If you've already beaten the Chocobo Race at Remiem Temple, then you are on your way to get the Celestial Mirror--you should have one kind of Mirror, already.* As far as leveling up, if you can get to either the Stolen Fayth Temple or Mt. Gagazet, you will be good for leveling up. If you can't get to either place, or you don't want to, keep going, by all means. But be warned, you have another few difficult bosses before you get to Zanarkand, so be ready.
conpiracymonki
OK, I've got the chocobo, found Belgemine, done the chocobo race, but where's this ledge James speaks of? I think I know what you mean by under where the D-X is (Stolen Fayth)
GinnyLyn
Spoilers. Highlight. Blah blah blah. ;) *Basically, you need to go all the way to the top (and more to the left) of the map in Calm Lands. You should see a small ledge leading a little ways down. The first time around, there should be someone stopping you, telling you you cannot go down because the canyon is sacred because it was carved out by a fighting-to-the-death Sin, blah blah blah... Later on, after you get the Celestial Mirror, come back, and the guy should be gone. Then you are on your way to start the process of getting Tidus' Legendary Weapon.*
conpiracymonki
Oh, lol that.. And here I was thinking it was somewhere on the east of the map T.T I really should pay more attention
SephirothNIN
It was called the stolen fayth temple? Anyway that's where you'll find Yojimbo if you have a crapload of $$ (at least 200,000 maybe). If you wanna get past that bozo blocking the small path in the calm lands you're gonna have a crapload of work to do. First talk to the woman who lets you ride a chocobo and ask to train chocobos. There are 4 different tasks you have to do, dodging balls and birds and such. The 4th task has you racing against her, and if you want to get past that guy, you need to get a time of 0:00 in the race. It's a pretty big pain, but doesn't take that long (it's just very frustrating). In order to get 0:00 you need to get every balloon possible (each balloon takes off 3 seconds), but each bird that hits you adds on 3 seconds at the end. There are 3 or 4 different arrangements of balloons, so try for the one that starts w/ a balloon near Tidus and you can get an early lead. After getting 0:00 the guy will be near the shop and will congragulate you, just go down the unblocked path now. If you leave the screen he'll be blocking the path and u'll have to get 0:00 again ><
conpiracymonki
I went and saved near the bridge, and I went back to the Calm Lands, and I can't find me choccybo! >.< I can't find the lady, or the chocobo, just a few wild ones, and the man going to bevelle HELP!!
zidane11
You have to beat Defender X before you can get Yojimbo which is located in the cavern of the Stolen Fayth right before Mt. Gagazet. You have to pay 300,000 gil and if you pay a lot more you get two teleport spheres. You aren't able to reach the Omega Ruins yet because you need the airship. Seymour Flux is coming up soon so you should be prepared. If you need anymore help then just ask me.
Yu Yu Hakusho!
Ok....stuck in the calm lands...that's what happened to me. Well, I used to go back to the Thunder Plains to level up, but my characters still didn't get enough AP....I know you proably haven't reached the O. R. yet...but that's the best possible place to level up. I wouldn't spend my time running around the Calm Lands any more than I have to. Start capturing as many monsters as you can and go to the guy to go fight them. I don't know what else to say!!!
