What do you guys think of her?! I'm actually quite surprised to find myself actually liking her. There's that poppy sound with a slight rock tinge, the fun clothes...

...not to mention she's cute as a button!

Ugh... I despise her. She is an insult to everything that I am, and I seriously pretty much shudder at the sound of her name. One time I even gagged as if I was about to vomit. Her pop music is aggrivating, the fact that she tries to rock is sickening, her "fun clothes" are nothing new... very trendy in fact, and the fact that she tries to pass herself as "punk" is a stab to the hearts of everyone that truely are that way. She is ignorant, self-centered, and just an all-around 'wannabe' (I've done my research).

I suspect she is just a 'fad' and will pass, but she vexes me to no end.

Doesn't anyone have something new to talk about? lol

Every other day it's something about Avril it feels like. I don't care what she says her musical style is. I personally don't like her, or feel she fits into punk at all.

This whole punk lifestyle fad as a whole is getting damn annoying. I love punk, I listen to it most of the time I play music... but honestly, if all someone has to do is dress in a certain way to be considered punk, what is the point? Spending hundreds of dollars on certain clothes and accessories (like she apparently does), to me just defeats the whole point of punk in the first place.

I love bondage pants and all that other stuff, but I'm not about to go spend 90 bucks on some Tiger of London stuff so people think I'm punk the second they see me. It's getting stupid, and I hope that these so-called "fashion punks" disappear soon... I feel Avril is one of them.

In terms of music, people can listen to her all they want... Doesn't affect me any. I've got my own music.

I don't care about what genre her music is or anything like that. If she makes a song I like, she makes a song I like. Her songs are really catchy, but I'm starting to get tired of MTV playing "Sk8r Boi" every half hour. I can understand why some people like her, but I honestly think she's all hype, so I can understand why a lot of people hate her.

Anyway, after this thread (aka, "the 417th Avril thread") is through, let's make it an unofficial rule to never talk about her on this board ever again. Who's with me?

I decided I'd download some of her songs out of curiousity... so I got "Complicated" and "Sk8er Boy".

Um, they were awful. Her voice bugs me endlessly. And the songs weren't good at all... not as bad as some of you seem to make them, but the lyrics were atrocious and the songs just weren't good... I don't care what she claims to be, she's just 'bad' to me...

I don't really think that much about her, but I love her songs for some odd reason. I don't have anything against her at all. I don't see the problem with her trying to act "punk". Is their a problem?

Before you get verbally assulted by PiroMunkie, I'll just sum everything up and say punk fans don't like her because she's a "poser." The way she acts like she's somebody else gets them frustrated.

I don't see her as a poser. I just see her as an 18 year old girl that sings. End of story. I don't care if I get verbally assaulted by Piromunkie. I have my opinions and he has his. I never said that there was a right and wrong opinion, because there isn't.

I agree with Noodle Z on this one.

Who gives if she says she's punk? Really, the image doesn't matter. I can understand how you might find her annoying (I find most of the black rappers annoying, erm . . . Cibo Matto annoying, other random bands I have no idea what the names are annoying. You find Avril annoying.) In all honesty, I like Avril. Her songs have at least a little meaning (as in, it's not all about getting in a large group and having an orgy while singing about screwing your girlfriend/boyfriend (which is what most black rappers do (and Christina A. and Britney S.))), and she doesn't dress that bad.

I still like Michelle Branch better, however. You know, your style is your style. We all like different things.

And no more Avril obsessings/bashings. It's just like saying that one of someone elses favourite bands sucks. Why get onto Avril?

Well, I can understand where PiroMunkie would be coming from if he did indeed explode as you have predicted. To him, then, Avril would just be giving people a "wrong" image of what punk is - and that bothers him because he likes punk.

So, I don't think you can completely blame him.

Think about it really...

Imagine if someone that emobodies nothing about your favorite music (in this case punk) randomly becomes popular and claims she is playing that said music.

That's what is happening here. There is nothing punk about Avril. She doesn't sing it, she doesn't really act it... Instead we have a girl "co-writes" her songs (apparently with lyricists, which is a problem in itself when dealing with punk), gives them these stupid mispelled names and does everything she can to come off as punk to people that don't know any better.

For me it has nothing to do with me liking or not liking her songs, it has to do with her basically forcing herself into a "punk" image so she can fit in with this recent punk fad where any poppy sounding punk type band does well. I don't care about her actual songs one way or the other, but the fact is she, and other groups like her who are forcing themself into something they shouldn't be in, are what's wrong with music in general right now. It takes the spotlight off of bands that should actually have it.

I have no idea if that's how PiroMunkie feels, but that's my thought on it.

The fact that a thread on AFI falls off the face of the earth at OB, and this is like the what? The 105345234 thread on Avril here...further proves that what she, and her label, are doing is working.

Well I know you weren't yelling at me when I said (in 3rd person, mind you) that punk fans don't like her because (in quotation marks) she's a "poser." I never said I didn't like her. I said her songs were catchy and I'm getting tired of "Sk8r Boi" and that I think she's all hype. I think Alicia Keys was all hype too, but I still think she had a good album. (oh, Alicia :tasty: ) Don't mix my opinion with my thoughts on someone else's opinion.

Anyway, I read the rules and they say you should look over the first page for a similar topic before you start a thread. The other Avril-centered thread has been pushed back a page or more, so threads like this should be ok (although still kinda redundant) as long as the thread's starter didn't know there's a similar thread a few pages back. That's just my interpretation of the rules.

If I look at it really generally it encompasses all of them. Earlier tonight I was out with some of my more 'not-so-punk' friends, they like her music for some odd reason, and were obviously unaware of my undying hatred for her. So yeah, her song came on the radio and they decided to turn up the volume rather loud. I about crushed my skull trying to drown out the noise. If that hadn't had switched the station when they did I probably would have hit something as hard as I could just so I could focus on my hand hurting more than anything else. I'm still trying to recover from that...

Like I said about 278344 times, she dosn't play her own intsrument, she only co-writes her songs, she tries to be something that she's not, she claims to be punk. What else do you people want? Take a second and put your self in my shoes where I have been listening to punk since i was 2 years old, and all of a sudden punk becomes a fad. It's gotten incredibly annoying to the point where i want to go to her house which is 20 miles away from here and confront her face to face.

And now I rant insanely at you all . . . again.

Who gives a flying flip about her image?! Yeah, she says she's punk, yeah, she doesn't play her own instrument, yeah, she doesn't write her own songs, BUT WHO CARES?! Wasn't music about the message, instead of the image?! Frankly, I can beef about Slipknot, or Christina A., or some other God-awful band, but NO, it's Avril! How many bands do you think write their own songs?! How many actually know how to play an instrument?! Why don't you get onto them for once?

I just can't see why you care so freaking much that Avril says that she's punk! You know, if Eminem said he was classical, I could care less! That doesn't mean I'm going to get my panties into a bunch, and start raving that I hate Eminem because he says he's classical!

Grit your teeth and bear it already!! Spank your inner moppet, embrace the pain, whatever, but get over it. I think ya'll are grown up enough to stop acting like babies. Or am I going to have to get pacifers and dipers for you all?!
