Manic Webb
:( Well, its come to my attention that I am the only Rhythm and Blues fan in all of OB. I've seen people who like Pop, Punk, Rap, Techno, Country, Classical, Rock, and a bunch of other stuff I can't even name right now. Likewise, I've seen people who hate Pop, Rock, Rap, Country ect. R&B has no lovers, likers, barely likers, dislikers, or even haters at this forum except for myself. I'm not mad at any of you. Everyone has their own opinion, and I guess the majority of OB just doesn't pay any attention to R&B. This thread could go absolutely nowhere over the next week, but I don't care. Somebody had to come out here and represent Rhythm and Blues, and I guess that had to be me. End Rant. Thoughts?
Semjaza
What do you consider R&B? I'm not into the new stuff that fits into the category honestly... But I like older stuff like The Temptations and all those bands, which I think used to be considered R&B. If not, I don't know what they are supposed to be classified as haha. wrist cutter
When I think of R&B I think of stuff like Destiny's Child or... I dunno, I don't know the names of what I hear. But anyway, I don't like that style of music... sometimes it's OK but for the most part I don't like it.
amibasuki
to me, Destiny's Child is more pop than R&B, but then again I've only heard their radio singles so I wouldn't know all that well :cross:. to be honest, the only name I can think of that's R&B is Alicia Keys (she's pretty cool). you got any other names to look into? Omar Harris
Hey, I love R&B. Alicia Keyes is cool, but I'm not too big on her old-school style. I'm more of a mid-90's music lover though. TLC, Aaliyah, K-ci and Jo-Jo, the original Destiny's Child, Wyclef Jean, the Fugees, and Lauren Hill are some of my faves. I like R. Kelly's music, even "Heaven, I need a hug" is cool, even though he has that whole scandal over his head.

But, I dunno, I enjoy some pop music and to me, Destiny's Child does not seem so pop-ish... moreso than some other "R&B" artists, yeah a bit, but I wouldn't really call them that... but that's just me... I really hate genres -_-

Avalon
Hey, I like R&B! I was practically raised on the mellow sounds of Gereld Levert, the bass tones of Barry White, the insync sounds of Boys II Men...I really did like R&B...now, I don't like it that much...with all of these people screwing up the sound, it has became like pop, played out... Manic Webb
Well, I'm happy to know there's some people here who like old R&B. Yep, there's nothing like sleeping to a Boys II Men ballad, El Debarge making your ears bleed with his high voice, and Ike smacking Tina Turner while she's singing "Proud Mary." :D There's a few good R&B acts now, but they're mostly calling themselves "Neo-Soul" artists. These are people like Angie Stone, Jill Scott, D'Angelo, Maxwell, and Raphael Saadiq (from Tony Toni Tone and Lucy Pearl). Just about any other R&B artist has become pop-like or Hip-Hop-like (which isn't that bad, at times). I miss those 3-girl R&B acts. SWV just disappeared, 702 changed members and faded away, TLC lost Left-Eye. Even the new groups like Blaque and 3LW can't keep it together and some of them are just plain boring. Transtic Nerve
R&B back in the day was some excellent music. Back when the blues first came out, wonderful music. Contemporary R&B has failed to include it's ancestory. It' ship hop beats with singing, not rapping. Usually about love and sex, not the blues. Sure it has the rythem, but lacks it's own name. I cannot respect something that tries to hold the meaning it represents, but fails miserably at doing so. Contemporary R&B shouldn't be called R&B, it needs to get a name change, but i know that'll never happen. However, I'm just ranting here about the meaning and interpretation of the music, not whether the music itself is good or bad. I personally don't care for it, but more ower to you if you like it. Manic Webb
I know exactly what you mean. That's why I listen to just regular blues sometimes, too. (well, that and the fact that my dad's in a blues band). And some of those old R&B songs were really good. Nobody is better than Stevie Wonder. Nobody. But like I said before, I listen to a lot of neo-soul, too. Artists like Raphael Saadiq will tell you about how he misses his girl, then turn around and tell a story about a blind man he met. Sometimes I like the "I just want to party" songs with hip-hop music, too. But that's just me. My mom raised me on hip-hop and my dad raised me on the blues. zidane11
It isn't that bad. I kind of like it. Some of the songs are really good though.
