Omar Harris
I have the VHS of Bloodlust. D is awesome. I love his living hand too. The animation for Bloodlust is some of the best, and nothing beats a lone wolf, half vampire.
Kent
yes indeed d is one bad dude. unfortunatly i havent seen this latest incarnation of vhd. although I would like to mention that there are some anime fans in my home town of williamsburg, VA. who should feel like some real dummies because literally more than 3 years ago I started talking about how I had saw a show where they mention vhd being redone. no one heard about it nor saw anything, I began to wonder myself and then it came to present and what was released. blood lust. it confirmed my talk and now I dont look like an idiot anymore. oh wait, thats just on this one subject. oh well. Queen Asuka
I have the original VHD movie and I've never even watched it....I've been saving it for a rainy day...but so far that hasn't come along yet. (I mean, sure, it's rained a million times on us lately, but I just haven't watched it and I've owned it for a few years...) I've never seen Bloodlust, but I plan on it one day since so many people have recommended it to me and everything. I think the animation is just beautiful, and that's part of what counts.
Darkness
It's worth seeing. How you could sit on the original for a few years is completely beyond me. Watch them both in the correct order and enjoy. You won't be sorry.
NorykoAngelcry
I loved the movie. Much better then the first movie in my opinion, but we aren't talking about that =) I loved his no non-sense attitude towards everyone and everything. He never backed down from a fight unless he felt something was different about that said fight (like fighting Mieir on the top of the carriage, and he hears the woman call out his name). . . whatever =) The fights were actually done really well in this movie, and I love the whole romantic gothic feel to the whole movie. Sometimes movies that include older feeling setting with it actually being the future, they can turn out pretty pathetic in my opinion. This movie, of course, is not one of them ^_^ Oh well. . I suppose if you have seen this movie, you don't need to know my opinion about it ^_^ I have the movie on DVD, and the special features are really good on there. =)
Semjaza
Vampire Hunter D was actually my first anime. I saw the old VHS tape more than 10 years ago, I'd say. I had no idea it was so violent at the time; all I knew was that it was animated... So I popped it in. I probably won't ever forget it since it was my first. It totally changed what I thought cartoons (I had no idea it was called anime at the time, this was before really any of it was on TV). So as soon as I heard about Bloodlust, I was of course incredibly interested. My friend and I were supposed to see at a small local theater called the Music Box... We could never find it though (I didn't find out it's location until like last month haha). I finally found it on DVD though, and I must say I almost consider it the best anime film I ever saw. I cannot really think of anything that is wrong with it. It has amazing animation, wonderful sound, a decent plot - taking a tired idea more or less, and reinventing it. The story was one of the best parts for me, because you could actually feel for the two that were in love. It's quite a difference from most other vampire movies. The characters were memorable, even if some had powers that weren't utilized enough or really explained well (I'm sure they were more useful in the novels these movies are based on). I wasn't fond of a lot of the facial structure, the eyes are kind of creepy... Especially on the child at the end. Speaking of which... the ending was probably the best part. This is one of the few anime I've seen that really ended well, and in a very memorable way. I don't think the movie could have had a better ending, and it really showed off the more human side of D (well caring side anyway, proving he isn't just a killer). Hinata
I've seen Vampire Hunter D...now I only need to see Bloodlust... Can you kinda give me a few heads up about it like it the storyline somewhat the same as in VHD... or has it changed some!!!! Also is the villan worse than in the original...and does more of ours heroes "true nature" return in Bloodlust.... I just can't wait to find out!!!
Semjaza
The stories are different, and only share one character: D (well and his hand). Bloodlust is different in the sense that the main "villian" isn't really a stereotypical bad guy. He isn't there for the sole purpose of killing people and destroying D. I think a lot of people had the idea that Bloodlust was a remake of the original, and it's not. They are both based on different novels from the same series. Either way, I think it's a must see. HOW can you own it and not watch it??? i watch things the second i get them. O.o so strange to me.
Hinata
Thankx Semjaza... Now I just need to check it out.... But I have to wait to get a DVD myself!!!!
SephirothNIN
I loved the old vampire hunter D, bloodlust is...good, graphically, but I just don't think it's anywhere near as awesome as the original. Bloodlust had plenty of cool parts, but...eh I dunno, a lot of the fighting was over way too quickly, just...one slash and then the battle's over. The intro to bloodlust was pretty cool tho, with the black carriage and the ice, still a cool movie, but the original was more fun.
Semjaza
I thought they were both balanced in terms of fights. Of course D had longer fights with certain characters in both... But who could forget in the first one where he just charges out of the castle and kills something like 456346356 monsters with each slash of his sword? haha
