GhostofSalvtore
The Gamecube is about to makes it 1 year anniversary and I am just a lil disappointed in it right now. Before the Gamecube came out I was really excited because I had already sold my N64 and Playstation for a Playstation 2 and I was looking forward to another quality Nintendo console. 4 games came to mind when before I got my Gamecube Super Mario Sunshine Super Smash Bros. Melee Wrestlemania X8 Perfect Dark 0 all of those have disapppointed me or in Perfect Dark's case is going to another console(xbox which I own as well) Now this is just me I am sure alot of you have love this titles. I got SSBM with my GC and I played it for about 2 weeks before I got really bored I had unlocked some stuff that I wanted to unlock, namely characters and stages and I was just bored of it. Wrestlemania X8 I thought would be another good THQ wrestling game, but was really disappointed with the lack of create a player and single player value. Now here comes Super Mario Sunshin. With my hopes in the GC already going down I never really got the urge to buy this title but I did play it at a friends house and never felt that spark with all other Mario games that I have played. Perfect Dark I thought was my last chance to save my GC and then news broke out on the rumors on Rare making games for Xbox. Currently I on SSBM and WMX8 and will probably sell both pretty soon. I know GC has had some titles out there that were probably really great in some people's minds like Resident Evil, Eternal Darkness, and Animal Crossing, but I will say I never was a fan of Resident Evil(I guess I just never got into it) Eternal Darkness and Animal Crossing did appeal to me as well. The end of the year for my GC features only one title, Metroid Prime. And even I am a lil skeptical about that but I will just buy it anyway, cuz I am a fan of 1st person shooters. Well this is my story with my GC. And I juts want to know if anyone has felt like this in anyway this year.:(
Semjaza
I own all 3 of the current systems, and I do find myself buying more NES games than anything new... But anyway, I guess it depends on the person. SSBM was never a game I was crazy about getting. I didn't like the original whatsoever. I bought SSBM played it a couple weeks, and that was it. I found myself going back to it to complete it though. It is a lot of fun (especially multiplayer) and I enjoyed all the extras. I think the main problem is that people approach this game like it's a normal fighter and it's not. A lot of people just plain seem to suckj at it too, and don't realize there are more moves for each character than are apparent. The dodge roll and reflecting shots alone adds a lot to the game. I always liked RE, and this game was no exception. Made up for the absurdity that was Code Veronica. The only think freaky in that game was the villian, and only because of the drag queen stuff. As for SMS, I don't know what people expected. I personally think it wipes the floor with Mario 64. People complain about the blue coins, but it's not like you MUST get them to enjoy the game. I think it lived up to my high expectations. SFA is also pretty good, although incredibly linear and easy. It's worth playing through and was one of the more enjoyable games I've played in a while. ED was good while it lasted, and AC is shaping up to be my personal favorite game in really long time. I can't even describe what is so great about it, all I know is that it's a lot of fun. Honestly, I've enjoyed my time with my GC more than I have with my PS2 or Xbox in recent months. I'm looking forward to a few games yet... Godzilla, Robotech, TS2, Nightfire, Metroid and most of all, Cubivore (and some others I can't think of offhand). Not to say I won't be buying stuff for other systems, but there is still plenty for GC. I suppose if you aren't happy with it, there is always PS2. Desbreko
Yeah, I know what you mean, about SSB and SSBM... They just aren't serious fighting games, and they can't be treated as such. That's why I like them, and no other fighting games, I guess. As for my experiences with the GCN, well, I haven't actually played too many games for it. (I need more money!) :toothy: What I have played has been pretty good, though. I got SSBM with my GCN, and I have to say, it lived up to almost all of my expectations, and exceeded others, so I figure it works out even, heh. My play time shot up to over 100 hours in just a couple months, my power time being about twice that. (I like to listen to the music in the sound test a lot). So far, it's the game that I've enjoyed the most on the GCN. After playing SSBM for a long time, I borrowed Luigi's Mansion from one of my friends, and played through it twice in a row (once on the normal game, and another time on the Hidden Mansion). It was fun, but, as I've heard a lot of other people say, not long enough. It didn't start to get boring until late through my second game, though, and it kept me occupied for a good number of hours. When Super Mario Sunshine came out, I bought it, and it was about what I expected. Not my favorite Mario game for a few reasons, but still highly enjoyable. I'm certainly glad I bought it. Out of the games that I've played for the GCN, it's my second favorite, SSBM still clinging to the number one spot just because of the sheer amount of replay value. Now I'm eagerly awaiting Metroid Prime. From everything I've seen of it, it looks like it's going to be fantastic. This is the first FPS type game that I've ever been excited about. Overall, I'm quite happy with my little 'Cube. :)
RicoTranzrig
I usually visit a friends house to play his GCN because I spent my money on a PS2 instead. I find a good majority of the games very colorful and very fun to play with more than one person. SSBM really took a long time to get tired of...almost 3 months, and I found it easier to play than the original. The other game that he has is Fifa World Cup soccer game just because we constantly watched the real thing on international TV a lot... I'm not really disappointed at Nintendo though...it seems like they started over from a different approach so we'll probably see better titles within the following months. James
I also think we have to remember that Nintendo has itself been internally restructuring over the past year or so. This has primarily been because game development times have increased to the point where it is becoming unprofitable -- Nintendo desires to have a larger quantity of smaller teams working on these projects. So, this year I think has really been a big transition for Nintendo. GameCube was launched...and the first generation batch of titles was pushed out. So what can I say about this first year? Overall, I'm pleased with it, if not overly-pleased. Nintendo should have been more prepared earlier on in my opinion. But having said that, the titles that were delivered in Japan, USA and PAL territories were still very worthwhile. Resident Evil was a very noteable release, updates to Wave Race and SSBM were also worthy games in my view. But Super Mario Sunshine is what really convinced me that GameCube is a viable platform. And no doubt, games like Animal Crossing and Metroid Prime will continue to further that viewpoint. So, yeah...in retrospect, I'm pretty happy with this first year. But this first year is a drop in the ocean compared to 2003 and beyond. I can't wait. :)
Charles
Bah, I actually traded Wrestlemania X8 in yesterday and was ridiculed by Electronic Boutique's employees for owning a Gamecube, lol. They told me that they enjoy the looks of disappointed people who try to find a game, but discover that it's not out on the GameCube, "the console of five games." I figured that since they work at the store, they would have some knowledge of gaming. Judging from other remarks they made, I knew that they were Microsoft fan boys. Hell, they called the place "Xbox Headquarters." You just don't sell a product by isolating people and goading them into buying what you like. Oh well. In any case, the GameCube, while lacking games compared to the Playstation 2, has infinitely better third party support than the Nintendo64 did. In fact, most of the big third party titles arrive on all three consoles anyway. If you're disappointed about the loss of Perfect Dark, I suggest checking out the aforementioned Metroid Prime or Die Hard: Vendetta. Both should be fine games. Semjaza
EB is paid by companies to do stuff like that. If you call them, sometimes they say "Acclaim Headquarters" or whatever other random company. This month is apparently Xbox month. I really hate EB. They are small, and the racks with accessories on them are a mess. The guy at the one I go to won't even speak to you unless you make him, otherwise he stares at you. The other employee knows jack **** about games. I saw a guy, he has to be like 40, talking to him about Xbox... saying what a godsend it was. The ironic thing was that he was trading in some decent PS2 games for crap like Shrek and Kabuki Warriors (arguably the worst games for the Xbox at the time). The GC really isn't that far behind Xbox in terms of 3rd party support. I notice that a lot of stores carry like a 1/3 of what is actually availible. Ninjaman
I will have to agree with GoS. Although I loved SSBM for quite a bit. After about 3 months, I stoppped playing it, but I found myself playing it again last week! But yes I do find GC disappointing so far. Mario was good, but I wasn't really attracted to buy it. It'll probably be one of those games I buy the next year. I still have yet to play Star Fox, but I have been hearing good things about it. So basically I will try that one out soon. The only other games I will look forward to playing is Metroid and Zelda. But we have yet to see if GC has something good up its sleeves.
Semjaza
I don't know how anyone can not be disappointed with GC if they don't really like the big Nintendo made games for it honestly. I personally buy Nintendo systems for Nintendo games, the exclusive 3rd party stuff is just icing. Getting 3 months out of a game is quite good if you ask me. I don't play some games after a couple days. I go back to SSBM every so often, and multiplayer is still a lot of fun if you are playing someone that knows what they are doing (and doesn't ***** everytime they lose, which is very rare it seems). I just wonder what people are expecting if they are disappointed. There are quite a few great games on the system, and this is coming off of N64 which sometimes got one game a month. I'm very happy with what has come so far, and I'm looking forward to next year... Promises to be quite good. Cubivore on November 12th! :) :)
GhostofSalvtore
Well I know there has to be some game in the next 3 years that I will want so thats why I bought my GC, even tho I could have gotten it now for only 150 but thats my loss. My PS2 so far is my best console and Xbox and GC are tied cept I think this year my Xbox will be played more with games like Toe Jam and Earl 3 and Splinter Cell while the GC for me only has Metroid. NorykoAngelcry
Wow. . I am very happy with the GAMECUBE myself. They have greatly surpassed N64 in my opinion (not to say that I didn't love that system ^_^). I have loved almost every game I have gotten on the system, and while I don't have all the games I want, I will be planning on them fairly soon ^_^ A lot of the third title games that our out on multiple systems, I will most likely get for the GAMECUBE. Fast load times, and quick saves are very big for me. As for upcoming games, I am really looking forward to Metroid and Zelda as others have stated. As for older games, me and many friends still get together for weekly / bi-weekly Smash Brothers tournaments. It is so much fun, and since everyone has a really good skill in the game, you never know how the night is going to go. None of us ever really complain when we lose either, which makes it a lot easier to play for hours upon hours! =P Mario is a great game, and I am really enjoying trying to squeeze out all of the hidden secrets in the levels. The game is big, what can I say? ^_^ As for any complaints - the camera . . . but that really isn't THAT big of a deal, the game rules, easily the best Mario to date ^_^ and definitely a top for the GAMECUBE. As for down notes with Nintendo right now? Late releases -- I really don't like waiting pushback after pushback for certain games, hearing that they have again been delayed for yada-yada reason. But to be honest, I know that it happens, and a lot of times, it is for the better. I would rather wait a few months for a great game, then get them on their original release date and end up with a very sloppy game. It seems that more and more games from PS2 and X-Box turn out that way, and that is pretty sad. Yes, Nintendo has a few themselves, but in hindsight, their taking time to fine-tune the games is REALLY worth the wait. A huge upset for me is that Nintendo is REALLY, REALLY lacking in the RPG department. I know they are coming out with some great titles in the next year, but I am having to use my PS2 for all my RPG needs - as well as many future games coming out for the system - and Nintendo for all my other games right now. . lol I suppose the only other complaint is a few of their bigger titles are pretty short games. Many don't take longer then a day or so. Luigi's Mansion and Star Fox Adventures are two titles that come to mind. Both very fun games, just . . . not long enough. On one other side note, I want to say that I recently picked back up Madden 2002. It was actually my older brother that picked it up, but watching the game, I saw how great of a game it was. Before, I just got it because of a special Target was running for the release day of the GAMECUBE. I didn't think that I would play it much, but I definitely wanted it more then Waveracer. Anyways, I tried playing it today, and was deep into playing it until my friend brought over Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2 ^_^ This is just my opinion on the subject ^_^
