Galvatron
Today on Zoids at the end when Shawdow was evolving into a new Genosaur did any catch what Raven said " The getway to hell !" did Toonami forget to edit that or did I hear wrong. Kent
nah, its just that sometimes hell isnt all that bad. Im sure they are just being lax. everything is getting worse these days. hell, mtv is all about letting people say that word for female dog or a hole. so toonami letting hell in... no biggy. Guest Hikaru Ichijyo
I'm surpised that Toonami allows the word hell to be said in Zoids CC but doesn't allow names such as God Gundam and Devil Gundam to appear in G-Gundam. It's quite a double standard that I am not happy with.
vegeta rocker
The god thing i agree is stupid, and it falls under the ridiculous Mr. Satan argument. which we all know is said satin.
Omar Harris
If I may be so bold, since the dubbing is done by Bandai, wouldn't it be Bandai's decision for name changes and not Toonami's? They've did the same for Digimon, so Toonami had nothing to do with Devil and God Gundam's names, as far as I can tell. Or at least that's what I think about it. The Heaven, Hell, God, Devil thing seems to be some sort of grey area, obviously. I've heard Heaven and Hell mentioned in X-men and Johnny Quest before. And they are seen all the time in Looney Toons. It probably has to either be a goof or just different standards. I've heard that channels usually have standards on what scriptwriters can put into their shows. ABC had some kinda script "Bible" for Tales from the Cryptkeeper standards, to prevent gore, guns, knives and other such things, so I guess the same goes for all shows. I don't know. Darkmoon
Or it could have something to do with when it was dubbed. As time goes by words that might have been inappropriet for younger viewers are now used so much by them that it isn't really considered anything bad. I hear kids in elementry school swearing at each other now when a while ago it wasn't allowed... So I suppose that it wouldn't matter to them anymore. People are used to seeing guns and gore and what ever else. Just wait, soon they'll leave it all in there not even bothering to cut some of it out. Gundum probably isn't considered really an anime for kids (I've barly been able to watch it unforunatly but I have seen some things) but it is on a channel that they usually end up watching and so just in case they cut it out or change it. Tigervx
do you know they replaced the word killed with hurt? its like" How many more people do they have to hurt?" i gotta say that sounds very stupid.
Guest Hikaru Ichijyo
Ah yes they can't say Devil, God, or Kill on CN apparently. Its just like in GI Joe the Movie where Duke is clearly killed but they say he's fallen into a coma...ugh please

I can't beleive that they would say 'Hell' on Toonami though. Tha is pretty weird. ;)

I saw DBZ yesterday, where Majin Buu swears off killing, and they said kill, unedited, several times. Plus, they said kill in todays episode of Justice League, and it is said in several other CN series. QA: Don't worry, La Blue Girl could never be seen on Adult Swi, no matter what. Even though CN has Adult Swim, there are still restraints placed on network TV. That's why a show like South Park, which is TVMA, still had f*** and s*** and nudity edited out. NorykoAngelcry
I suppose I agree with certain censorship in cartoons/anime. For the simple fact that if a kid is flipping through, and sees bright and colorful cartoons, he/she is going to stop and watch it. Parents can't be there all the time to make sure their kid is watching the right thing. I think editing is alright in my opinion. I think it is a bit much when they start taking out gun drawings from shows (Yugioh). . that just makes me laugh. As for bad language - I hear enough of it from my friends - if they want to take it out of a show, I don't think it's that big of a deal. In fact, it just makes me laugh. Solo Tremaine
I noticed that too. I believe there's a bit more of that later in the series (we've had all of CC/GF here in the UK). I don't think hell is particularly bad, personally (no offence to anyone who does). There are worse things to say, as people have pointed out. But mind you, they probably hear those words on other programmes anyway. One thing that gets me is they way they won't use 'heavy' words like love and dead. Why? You won't say hell, which has a serious religious meaning and people actually object to its use, but you won't use words which are perfectly normal and often better to keep in, in terms of dialogue. You're always left with " Could they be... Are they...?", which, to me, sounds tacky. But they said killed in Digimon somewhere. I noticed that b***s*** was edited out of NGE yesterday. And I thought they were being crude when one of them said he was 'p***ed off'. That YuGiOh thing with the guns was ridiculous. They showed guns in Pokemon, aimed at even younger kids. You can't expect children to believe they've got supercharged fingers or something...
Kei
I don't really find that surprising. I remember one time in 08th MS Team when Shiro said "What the hell happened?" and they didn't edit it when they reran the ep. I believe it was "The Shuddering Mountain-Part 1" or something like that. But it's weird that they wouldn't edit somehting like hell on some animes and do edit God and Devil and other things to that extent on others.

Solo Tremaine
I can't see why they don't get rid of Cow and Chicken and all it's various affiliates (I don't like CN cartoons, generally. Powerpuff Girls... yeurgh)- it's bad enough already without some devil with a large backside parading round everywhere. If anything, that'd be worse than a mention of hell- a depiction similar to the devil making people do what he wants or influencing their decisions. I know they don't actually mean anything by it, but religiously speaking it's a terrible thing to broadcast. Much worse than a mere mention of hell in a series with little or no religious basis or influences.
Shining Gundam
I don't know if this has to do with what you are talking about, but did anyone see the episode of DBZ on toonami, after goten and trunks had fused into gotenks and disobeyed piccalo going after mojin buu, but get beat down by him. Well sometime in the next episode, it shows Chi-Chi spanking goten, and to my suprise it showed gotens butt as she was spanking him. That might not seem like a big deal to some, but that was a bit shocking to me , that they showed that on toonami. Am i alone on that one?? Jeebs
They've showed Goku's butt a few times in Dragonball. That surprised me a little bit.
Omar Harris
DB/DBZ are the only anime that Toonami does not do the editing for. Funimation has allowed Goku and Gohan's cheeks to be seen sevearl times, even when the show was in syndication.
Manic Webb
The only anime I think Toonami edited themselves were the Gundam series, Tenchi, and Outlaw Star. Everything else was edited by somebody else (like FUNimation or Clover Way) Editing out certain religious themes and keeping others in doesn't make sense most of the time. For example, Duo from GundamW calls himself "The God of Death." Toonami edited that out (during the afternoon run, anyway) even though Duo was using an imaginary polytheistic name. He's not referring to any real religion by calling himself that. On a whole 'nother note, we have "The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy" starring Death himself. That just doesn't make any sense. Omar Harris
I'm not sure but didn't Bandai of America change of the names of the Gundams? Could someone enlighten me? God's name in casual, non-religious based TV might be considered a bit of a blashpemy and/or unfair to other religions (as is the case for a country that allows freedom of religion), even more so if a character is referring to himself as "God" no matter what religion's "God" he is named after. Even if he is not referring to himself by the name of a specific God, other people of other/no religions may still be "offended". Death and the devil have appeared n television is different forms (as seen in different Looney Tunes cartoons) for years so the Red Guy in "Cow an Chicken" isn't much of harm nor is Death in "Grim and Evil" (who is referred to a Grim, not Death). Death and Devil aren't necessarily "taboo", but Lucifer, Satan, and others are not. And in most cartoons although the personification of Death is referred to as the Grim Reaper. Solo Tremaine
It still doesn't hide the fact that they're based on the common visual conception of the devil and death. Just giving it a different name shouldn't really change what it is, after all, 'That which we call a rose by any other name would smell as sweet' or whatever. I'm aware that it does change things a little and shows people that they aren't trying to be blasphemous, but it's still at least a little dodgy by my book.
