Hey People!!!

I got a chance to see the new series Birds of Prey on the WB(Warner Bros) channel which our station is Channel 21 on regular tv and channel 9 on cable. I think the show is awesome, whoda thought that Bruce Wayne (Batman) and Selina Kyle (Catwoman) have a love child, the new heroine is their daughter Helena Kyle (The Huntress). She teams up with 2 other ladies - Oracle (Barbara Gordon - former batgirl) and Dinah (young teenager with the ability to predict things that will happen). If you didn't get the chance to see it, you must see it aince it will air on Wednesday at 8 p.m. I think you'll like that show. Let me know what you think of that show if you seen it.

Later Much!!!!

So far I'd have to say I like it. I looked up on who The Huntress is (because the curiousity was killing me) and stumbled on the fact that the show takes place in an alternate reality. Who knew?

Anyway, it seems like a good show and I want to see how it progresses.

My friend was telling me all this weird stuff about the show. Such as Helena being a mutant... He also went on about Joker paralyzing Batgirl, but that happened in the comics, so I don't know what his problem is hehe.

Is the show that good? Smallville seems really hit or miss, and I don't know that I can stomach this show if it's mostly teen drama stuff.

Well the Joker paralized Batgirl in the show, too (she's several years old and in a wheel chair.) She sorta works like Bruce does in Batman Beyond. She sits at homebase, with a communicator in Helena's ear.

The show doesn't call people "mutants." I think they call them "meta-humans." Helena is half-meta and animal-like in her movements.

The show isn't like Smallville (aka Clark Kent's Creek). Dinah is the only teen on the show. So far, the conflict in each episode is that there's some kind of a homocide that The Huntress has to solve, with Barbara as Oracle monitoring police activity and Dinah training training.

I've seen the show a couple of times and I have to admit that it could be much better. They could get better actors for the most part. Now I'm not saying I'm some godly acting guy but they could still get better actors (mostly in Helena's case).

The only other problem I see is that their ripping off Smallville's idea of continuing the Superman series (Batman in this case). Smallville actually hit it off, and although I've only seen it about 1 - 1 1/2 times, it seems a little better than Birds of Prey.

Some of the scenes where she's jumping around buildings are also very obviously computer graphics. I'm not talking about when it switches scenes and has the overhead view of the city, they did good with that.

It's like in Lord of the Rings (the movie) when Legolas jumps down from the Troll's head, you can obviously tell that Legolas is computer animated.

I'm not sexist or anything, I loved the Charlie's Angel's movie (:p) but I'm just not very fond of this show.

Huntress' origin in the show Birds of Prey is the same as that of the Huntress from Earth 2. That Huntress was wiped out of existance in a storyline calledCrisis on Infinite Earths with a group of other heroes after all the parallel universes became one.

The current Huntress in the comics is a school teacher and the daughter of a Mafia kingpen. She has no powers in the comics but uses weapons and athleticism, just like Batman.

Dinah in the show is actually Dinah Lance, who in the comics, is a superhero called Black Canary. Her mother was the original BC, and she took over when her mom died. She used to have a sonic scream but she lost it and just uses her athleticism and martial arts skills.

The show takes a lot of liberties with the comics. Oracle does exist, but in the Birds of Prey comic, she works with Black Canary, not Huntress. I like the show and the liberties it took, especially with the whole metahuman storylines, but it sounds like something out of X-men rather than Batman. Hopefully we see Harley Quinn (Joker's girlfriend in the jester outfit) in uniform.

What I don't like is how Helena takes no effort into hiding her secret identity. As Helena, she was court-ordered into taking therapy. As The Huntress, she is in constant contact with a police officer who could easily recognize her face if he should stumble across Helena's record.

Then again, if Clark Kent's glasses have taught us anything, it's that people in a comic book universe are seeing impared.

And Birds of Prey doesn't seem like it's copying Smallville's idea. Smallville pre-dates the days of Superman, while Birds of Prey takes place after Batman. Also, "Clark Kent's Creek" is more of a drama and "Birds" is more centered around the action. If you're looking for a rip-off of Smallville, get ready for the Aquaman series they're getting ready to make.

See how T.V. illiterate I am? I thought Smallville was after the original Superman. That clears alot of things up :p

Also, Birds of Prey is actually good, I just don't like the actress they chose for Helena. She has the right look for it, but she could be better at acting, mostly with just some of the phrases she has.

I'm a huge Batman fan and I've seen every episode so far, although I think it could be better. I want to see Batman and Robin, not their kids in an alternate reality, but this is all we have until the next movie so I'm content. Still, Huntress should be a more serious character in my opinion. And also, where's Nightwing? He wasn't feauterd in Batman Beyond( if I'm correct, I'm unsure on that) and now in this too. That's strange becuase he is in the future of the Batman comics. Maybe he's in the next movie or another animated series. Well, I guess we just have to wait and see the next installment of the Batman sagas to find out. :)

Yes, of course I have seen the show. Here is my general analysis of it (from a comic book nerd point-of-view)...

- I really don't like Huntress. Many of the complaints about the show being "too sexy" are from her. She is a walking sex object without any sort of personality, and she is also in the show too much. Nearly every scene is about Helena, and only a show with a strong lead character can handle this sort of pressure. Also: How is she half meta-human? Batman was human, and so was Catwoman. Were there a few years of continuity that I missed? Endymion, can you help me out here?

- Barbara Gordon rocks! This is exactly the way that she should have been portrayed in "Batman and Robin". She is smart, clever, and intregal to the team. I don't like how she always has to leave when her wannabe boyfriend (what is his name?) starts talking to her. It is turning into the Smallville Lana/Clark thing all over again. Plus, Oracle should never leave the watchtower, it is just common sense. There isn't going to be a wheelchair ramp in every criminal's secret base. Huntress should be the only one out there, and possibly Diana once she learns some more fighting techniques.

- Alfred. Clever as always, he should have a larger role in the show.

- Why do they keep calling it New Gotham? Has "No Man's Land" already happened in their universe? And if so, did Lex Luthor help pay for it?

- The detective character annoys me. I think that the idea of a police officer chaarcter is good, but the romantic aspect is lame. And if he had half a brain he would have figured out who she is. How can the daughter of Bruce Wayne fight crime without a mask and not get noticed? I am sure that they know Selina Kyle was Catwoman, it would be common sense to keep an eye on her.

- Diana. Nice, sweet.... boring too.

- There don't seem to be any other heroes in New Gotham besides the BOP. There also don't seem to be any major threats to the city as a whole. I want some classic Batman villains, even the Penguin could rip Harley Quinn to shreds.

- Harley Quinn. For the record I am a huge Harley Quinn fan, and I am very happy that she is in the show. But there are just too many problems with her appearing on BOP. Yes, Harley would probably be working to avenge Mr. J; but there is no way that I could ever imagine her as a criminal mastermind. Harley seems to be much more in control as well, but I would like to see an occasional glimpse of her true insanity as well. If they showed her prized Hyena's I would be thrilled.

- It is too early to make a judgement. But BOP is a show that was not made for comic book fans. Hopefully all of my minor complaints with the characters will be ironed out by the end of the first year. I would like to see larger stories carried out, instead of the "Metahuman of the week", but this is the 4th week, it is too soon to complain about them being repetetive.

Actually, I was a little confused as to why Helena was half-metahuman. In fact, I have little clue what a metahuman is, except that they remind me of mutants from Marvel comics. The question here is not which one of her parents was a metahuman, but how can she be only half? So every other metahuman on the show had two metahuman parents and Helena is the only half-breed on the show?

Anyway, no, this show was definitely not made for comic book fans. In fact, I don't think there's such thing as a live action TV series made for comic book fanatics. I'm not even big on comics (I stopped reading them when I was 11. I recently started reading online synopses to catch up on my fave heros for the past 7 years), but Smallville bothers the heck out of me.

I say the show is good if you're not too into Batman's comic book continuity and stuff.
