Omar Harris
Has anyone heard any news on Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance? I've read several articles on the game which is supposed to be a complete recreation of the Mortal Kombat series. From what I know, magic powers will be reduced for a more hand-to-hand style, every character has 3 fighting styles and can change between them at will, fatalities will be reimagined, as will the outfits of the old characters (Cage, Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Quan Chi, Shang Tsung, Sonya, Kitana, Reptile, Jax, Raiden, and Kung Lao I believe are the only ones confirmed. You heard right Liu Kang isn't coming back for this one). The new characters are completely imaginative, with a female Sub-Zero named Frost, a vampire woman and a demon among others. What do you think of the Mortal Kombat series; for fans, who are your favorite characters and what are your favorite games?
Charles
I believe--that the new Mortal Kombat title has potential. That being said, I am not so sure that it will sell well; its name value isn't quite up to what it once was. After a string of poor games and a horrible film, and years of absence from the spotlight, its notoriety as a popular franchise has to be wavering. Obviously, this franchise was built on controversial content rather than a quality engine. With heavy hitters like Virtua Fighter 4 and Tekken 4 on the market, Ed Boon better be sure that the on-the-fly fighting style system is smooth and user friendly--or isn't merely a small dose of fresh paint on an ancient structure. The fact that this game isn't launching in arcades first means that it will have an advantage that no other Mortal Kombat game before it had. We should be seeing more fleshed out storylines and a wealth of modes. At least the developers seem to realize that it takes a quality engine to sell copies though. They definitely seem to be downplaying the importance of finishing moves. That's a good thing considering that such exploitation won't cut it anymore. LostProphet
All I know is that MK: Special Forces sucked Severe ***. I have faith, but not much.
Guest Hikaru Ichijyo
Sigh, its amazing how after 3 or 4 terrible Mortal Kombat games that the company that makes them is willing to add one more crappy game to the chopping block. Unfortunately I have very little faith that this title will be good, or do well. The last really decent Mortal Kombat game would honestly have to be part 2, the others got rather redundant and as they made the next step to 3D fighting it just got really lame and boring. Who knows though, weirder things have been known to happen maybe MK: DA will actually redeem itself. *Takes a look at the pics* Then again maybe not. ;)

Omar Harris
The Mortal Kombat series was great during the mid-90's simply because there were few games that were like them. I see MK2 as being the height of the Mortal Kombat craze. Then the first movie arrived, and though not the best thing, it was interesting. After all, who actually watches action movies, looking for a plot? Well, okay, maybe I do but so long as the special effects and action are good, I see no problem with it. I hate Mortal Kombat Annihilation, because it was just "Fight, fight, fight. Save the world, fight. We're a family. Fight." Mortal Kombat 3 had some bad effects, and the comedic finsihing moves were horrible. Plus none of the new characters were very memorable besides the Cyber-Ninjas. Though 4 improved that, it still made little improvement on the series. I still can't wait until DA debuts and hopefully changes all this.
Charles
Well, Mortal Kombat Annihilation wasn't directed by Paul Anderson, as the previous film had been. I rented it on VHS and it was horrible. I suppose that watching the movie reminded me of how ridiculous the entire Mortal Kombat storyline had grown. I agree with you regarding Mortal Kombat 3's mediocrity; that's when the series really started showing its age. At that point, infinitely better fighters, such as Virtua Fighter 2, Street Fighter Alpha, and Tekken had been released. I'm fairly sure that Virtua Fighter 3 was released at that point as well. Graphic violence was nothing new at that point, and with the aforementioned fighters featuring infinitely better game play, Mortal Kombat 3 was evidence that the franchise was dwindling. I mean, no one cared about ridiculous globs of red flying about anymore. Mortal Kombat was a flavor of the month and had lived its fifteen minutes of fame. Sure, the addition of the run button was nice, but a plethora of palette swap characters and cheap artificial intelligence bogged the game down too much. Because Deadly Alliance seems to be geared towards solid game play, I'm able to maintain an optimistic outlook. Some of the fatalities still look ridiculous though.... Mitch
I'm not a gamer who really enjoys fighting games. I way more enjoy RPGs, but I've played most of the Mortal Combats and I've also seen both movies. The first movie they did a well done job with, I thought, although it could've been better, at least it was average. The second movie...well, to say it bluntly, it sucked. Now, the games I also found to be nothing all that special. Because to me fighting games are mindless, I mean there's no point to it for me. I'd probably say that MK3 is my favorite, although that one was pretty bland as all of the rest. Now, I believe any game has potential, but we will see. We will see.
