Letting Go

Has anyone here recently (within the past five years or so) lost a pet? My family put our dog Brandi to sleep today, about an hour ago...she got the injection, then poof, fall down, 'asleep'. Just curious, and wondering on how you went on with your lives for the next while...misery loves company, y'know...

I didn't do to well with mine. I had one of my dogs put to sleep 2 years ago. I was the only person (besides the vet) with him when he died. For some reason he only liked me. It was really hard. I was shocked when he first fell asleep then I broke down into crying. It was really hard on me. I wasn't the same for a long time. I'm still recovering slightly. I don't really have any suggestions sorry, just hang in there....

We never put our dogs to sleep. We just let them die naturally. Our first dog had a heart attack coming up the front steps and was gone, our second one had some sort of blood cancer and died at home. :( But we still have dogs #3 and #4. :)

My dog was hit by a car a while back and killed. It wasnt really that bad. He had gotten hit twice before and we thought he was dead so we kinda did our grieving then. I dont mean this to sound funny though, its just how it was.

It can be hard. I dont think theres anything that helps except to just grieve.

I have lost a family pet this year, it was quite hard, and I don't think that you can get over these things, you just learn to live with it.

Yea, like you learn to live with anything, I guess. :/ I just feel like the first...day, night, whatever, is the hardest, although that's probably a given.

I've had a lot of pets, but the most recent and hard hitting one was my rat, Pogo. I originally had two - the other was named Twiggy - but she was always sickly and afraid so I think she might have been better off passing away.

Pogo was the coolest pet I ever had though. She was cage trained, extremely quiet, relaxed and just well behaved. She would just sit on my shoulder as I worked on the computer, cleaning her face off or whatever else.

One day I came home and she was just dead in her cage. Very crappy thing to deal with. I bought my 2nd ferret a short time later. I named her Kit, and I still have her right now.

I lost my favorite three years ago. I hug him and cry when he died. As the time past, I felt better. Time will heal your pains and miseries.

We put our dog, Bitsy to sleep, just a few months ago. I've put up a gigantic wall of apathy up, ever since she was put to sleep, so I just didn't let it affect me all that much. But it still does. Our whole family is just..different, there's the word...without her. My mom cried a lot, but I just used my apathy to escape from all of it. She even buried Bitsy, but I didn't go, to much pain there. Don't like to talk about it.

I used to have a cat, Wobbles. She went out one day and i
think she went over to this house which this old shrewy
woman inhabited. The woman had a hen house in her back yard
and Wobbles had a thing for Chicken(she would often attempt to sneak into the hen hut).So i think the lady shot her because
when Wobbles returned that morning an' she was half
dead. Tthe Pet Meds couldnt do anything so she died a while later. She's dead, she has her own flower memorial in the backyard and it was sad.
The end.

I haven't experienced that pain yet but I have a feeling that I will soon. I have an 11 year old blue and gold macaw (parrot) and a 2 year old dog. I think I'll have a nervous break down if something happened to them. I love them as though they are my own brother and sister, espically since I have no siblings. I don't know what I'd do without my bird. Now she is like a sister to me. She hates everyone else (my parents) but loves me. I don't know what I'd do without her.

Well, I've had a pet Chihuahua (Azabache) since I was a baby. He's though, but I know he could die a any moment. I'm sure it would really hurt, but I'd also feel glad that he would finally get some rest.
I also feel very guilty about my cats, since they were operated, and I accidentally made them pass through a lot of unnecesary pain. I would hate to lose such good friends.

I had a pet newt named Newt. He died. But he pretty much always just sat around....so we didn't notice he was dead for quite a while. It was rather gross.

For most of my life, my best friend in the world was a dog named Trapper. He died when I was thirteen.

Hmm. . .growing up in a large family (6 kids total), there were always pets around. Dogs, gerbels, fish, cats, lizards, etc etc. And even the occasional snake/spiders/birds that just seemed to . . migrate towards our houses(we have moved several times) ^_^

Many of the times, our negligance has caused the death of our pets, but in some cases, a few run-a-ways, some getting hit by cars, others - well, I won't gross anyone out (im me if you want to know. . ).

Anyways, not too many pets have I really felt sad losing, but there are always exceptions. Our last dog I remember owning was Ginger - a beautiful dog. She was so lovable, but sadly, she had an infection passed on down from her mother. It was costing a lot to take care of her, and my brother really didn't have the time/money/energy for it. He gave the pet back to the original owners I believe, so I suppose that is the silver lining, but it is still pretty saddening to lose a pet that was that close =(

As of now, I think I would love a dog, but I don't really think I have the time to dedicate to it. I don't think a pet should be placed in an environment where it might not be treated the best it should be.
