Where are you from?

I've browsed all the OtakuLounge and haven't seen one of those...

1. Where are you from? (country, city, locate it if it's not known)
2. Tell us something we should know about it
3. no "it's boring" or "never comes here"
4. discuss about it!

I'm from Quebec City, Canada. Quebec is one of the oldest settlement in North America, and it's a cool place because many old building where preserved or reconstituted, while it's still a very modern city.

I'd post a poll, but I don't understand how it words and thw FAQ isn't accessible.

I swear we did one of these ages ago... but I mean ages... anyway.. can't just say that..

1. Where are you from? (country, city, locate it if it's not known)

Stoke On Trent, England

2. Tell us something we should know about it

It's officially the worst city in England. It came 376th out of a survey of 376 cities... umm... 'woohoo'...

3. no "it's boring" or "never comes here"

but I mean it... seriously... DON'T COME HERE

4. discuss about it!

I'm not qualified to do that on my own :p

1. Where are you from? (country, city, locate it if it's not known)
Perth, Australia

2. Tell us something we should know about it
Umm...ah...um. It's the capital of Western Australia...it's about the fourth largest city in Australia...and as far as I know, I'm the only person from Perth on these boards

3. no "it's boring" or "never comes here"
Just one thing...please? Sometimes, bands will tour Australia, go to Melbourne, Sydney and all that, and won't come to Perth:flaming:

4. discuss about it!
Not long ago, Perth was considered the 'most boring city in Australia', but it's an okay city to live in. I live in the suburbs, and there's more to do in town, but I hardly ever go into town (might get mugged:nervous:. j/k).

 God, I think I'm going to edit the numbers out XD. I know someone over the boards at Newezone.com who comes from Melbourne. You may like to discuss with him about that touring band thing.

1. Calvert County, Maryland of USA

2. One of the oldest counties, fastest populating county in Maryland, and slowest to grow (aka no malls)

3. Erm, I guess it's not boring. Maybe if you enjoy looking at trees...everywhere you turn...

4. I don't really like it, too bland. If you live here, you're either rich and can buy large property, or you're poor and drive your trailer here to get away from everything. Yeeaaahhh....

1. I've lived here in Hambrook, near Chichester, West Sussex for all 17 and not-quite-a-half years.

2. Chichester's home to the Chichester Festival Theatre (no less), second most reputable in the country (Lawrence Olivier helped fund it) I think. Um... Zoe Wannamaker shops at the Waitrose here. Hambrook's very small, consisting of a few houses, a post office and two pillarboxes. There's an animal sanctuary too.

3. There's bog-all to do in Hambrook, except go for a walk and get stuck in the gravel pits. Chichester's got lots of shops, a theatre and they're building a large complex with a cinema in it. So fairly boring if you've seen it all before. It's a pretty town.

4.I like living in this part of the country. Not too much crime, there are trees and places to get lost and wiggly roads which make you feel sick and the odd wallaby (they're oficially a British native marsupial now- they've been around for over 30 years) and a few C-List celebrities and a big dip. It's a nice place.

Hmm...

1. I'm from Melbourne, Australia.

2. Melbourne is the capital of the state of Victoria. Its population is over 3 million (more than the entire national population of New Zealand, to give you a measure of reference). Melbourne is the second largest city in Australia, behind Sydney (I think Sydney is just a bit larger than half of New York...with a population of about 4.5 million).

Melbourne used to be the capital of Australia, when the nation was first Federated (when all the colonies joined together as one nation). However, it couldn't be decided whether or not Sydney or Melbourne should be the national capital. So, a third city was built in between the two -- exactly. That city is Canberra. Canberra was completed during the 1930's and is an extremely modern city (considering it's one of the youngest in the world). It's not as hugely populated as Australia's other coastal cities, but it is primarily a political and historic place, I suppose.

Melbourne is famous for being "the world's most liveable city" (though I'm not sure who actually rated us as that). A clean city design, combined with relatively low pollution, one of the world's best public transport systems and restaurants sourced from more than 300 worldwide nationalities make Melbourne particularly special. It is also a fact that Melbourne has the world's cleanest drinking water.

What else can be said about Melbourne? Hm. Over the last decade, a lot of construction and development has been going on. As a result, establishments/structures such as Crown Entertainment Complex (which spews fire into the sky at night), the CityLink and CityLink Tunnel (which connects all areas of the city) and now Federation Square (a very large arts/entertainment/cultural venue) have popped up in recent times.

3. Melbourne is great to visit. If you like food, you'll love Melbourne. Even if you're from say...Togo, you'll probably find a restaurant based soley on Togo cuisine. So the restaurants are a very famous and important part of the city. Other than that, there is loads to do. You can visit the Botannical Gardens, Rialto Towers, Melbourne Arts Centre, Melbourne Aquarium and many, many more.

4. Don't know what else I can say. :drunk:

I adore Melbourne. Sydney always gets the attention...but without the Harbour, it wouldn't be all that much. Melbourne, however, is a very beautiful city on its own merits. It's a shame that it doesn't get as much attention...because it's truly one of the world's greatest cities. It's like a hidden gem. ;) If you ever come here, I really recommend visiting!

1) I hail from New Jersey (South)

2) New Jersey is hailed not only as the Garden State, but also as the most densely populated area in the United States. There has also been a lot of talk of splitting up South and North Jersey into seperate States. There's quite a rigid line between North and South Jersey as it is. South Jersey is very closely tied with Philadelphia, while North Jersey is tied with New York.

There are also talks of combining The New Jersey University of Medicine and Dentistry with Rutgers University and the Institute of Technology to create the University of New Jersey. This probably won't affect me, however, because I'll probably be out of Rutgers when the deal is finalized in five years.

We are also home to one of the worst cities in the United States, Camden. Lately, there has been intense revitalization in that particular area, so I look for Camden to rise up once again and become one of the greater cities in the United States. It has great potential with its Water Front. High capacity computer lines are even being installed under the side walk. Those factors in conjuction with new Museums and such, will truly make the city a futuristic front for education.

Despite what you said, about not saying it's boring, Pennsauken, New Jersey is quite boring. I'm seriously thinking about pushing town representatives to create something for the youth around here. All we have is industry. The only thing holding me back, is that I've heard rumors of the old Elementary school into a YMCA. That would work out nicely.

And I think that I've made a long post that no one will read throug, lol. ^_^;;

Hey, Lauren, I recall that Minnesota is very popular among Finnish immigrants. Does it show?

I asked it because I'm from Finland, and to be more accurate, from Helsinki, the capital of the country.

Hmm, Finland is a very good place to live in: we're mostly tolerant, we have progressed much in equal rights to men and women -we were the second country IN THE WORLD to give voting rights to females, plus we have a female president, and we have good economical situation here... well, not as good as it COULD be, but most people manage just fine.

I don't think Finland -or especially Helsinki- is a dull place. On the contrary, Helsinki is JUST the right size for me, not a megapolis, yet not a Dopeyville.

As a sad news, we just had a teenager making a suicide bomb-strike into one of our largest shopping centres, and six people died with him, and fifty got injured.:( Some of you MAY have even heard about it...
I know it's nothing compared to last years September, but sad it was anyway, and it touched us Finns greatly.

It's interesting to have these kind of threads (I started the previous one), just to hear how things work where you are from.

Canada is often called Land of a millions lakes, I believe:D
Besides, I'm not really (okay, not at all) into sports in general, and baseball in particular. Which city do you live in?

That part had me laugh my head off. Did you know New Jersey was once separated in East and West New Jersey? East New Jersey is actually the only state to have had "East" in is name. I also think New Jersey is the one and only state that have beeen reunited, but I may be wrong on that one.

Hummm, you should ask over at Dumblaws Forums, there's a handfull of finnish there.

The second part reminded me of a post someone made at the aforementioned board. He said that sometimes, north american people don't realise there are crimes, shooting and bomb-strike (Think Spain with the Basks, or North Ireland, though it's cooling off, I think) in Europe. That's awfull how people can not see longer then their noses sometimes.

Dear Lord.
James, you've inspired me to learn more about my home town. I'm ashamed at how much you know about yours compared to how much I know about Perth.
------
I just remembered some random facts I can add.
Perth has just over 1 million people.
It's got this very controversial belltower that everyone hates (I don't mind it though)
Ummm...oh, don't come to Perth expecting to see big skyscrapers. we've got about 3 big ones. the tallest is, uh, probably around 40 stories high

3.its boring
4. I hate it because everyone here is lazy and don't have any common sense, I mean i know girls pregnant at 14.
And it really pushes that big stereotype of minorities. Nearly everyone here figures if they have a kid they get food stamps, lone star and welfare, and unfortunatly they're right.

I'm here in what I call Dump Water, Louisiana.

But its really a place called Mandeville.

It's not really all that bad, but, vegeta rocker, I feel for you.

I come from Virginia, and down here I feel all the frustrations that you do.

It seems like everyone is just not at all an intelligent person. (I know I'm not a genious or anything so its even more aggrevating)

Everyone drives like crap and one of the states most famous city mayors, was a socialist.

Even more dissappointing is that both of our senators are democrates, yet every night on the way back and forth from school all I see is enviromental terrorism. (trash in every street and ditch, open air fires with god knows what-everything besides leaves)

But atleast its a lax state when it comes to prosecuting criminals for non-violent, non property related crimes. (drugs, but not the hard ones)

Mandeville is also home to the largest non-suspended bridge in the country, 33 miles long or something. (oooowww! now thats exciting)

So how many wanna move to Mandeville right now. Yea, I thought so, heck maybe we will cross paths as I'm leaving.

4. I love Georgia...and all of the people in it...*not really*. We might have the worst traffic in the world but darn it, I still love the capital of the Dirty South...God Bless Georgia Peaches....

Because I know somebody on the board who lives a few blocks from me, I'll just talk about where I used to live three years ago instead of where I live now.

1. Up until I was about 14, I lived in Oakland, California, USA. (begin ghetto moment) Oaktown! That O.A.K! East Oakland!! (end ghetto moment)

2. A lot of rappers in the 1980's & 90's came from Oakland, including M.C. Hammer.

3. If you're looking for a wholesome, safe neighborhood, don't move in by the colossium. There's a lot of recent killings that have gone on around there. It's not boring, but don't move here!

4. The airport and colossium are in East Oakland, which is a nice place to live, despite its rough exterior and such. Stay away from the West side, it's too dangerous. The Jack London Square and downtown areas are good tourist spots. The education system is in bad shape, as most of the teachers speak ebonics in class. My mom made me go to school in the suburbs of Union City, where my grandparents live. When I was 14, I moved in with my grandparents permanently.

I just realized that, while I currently live in a much cooler city than I previously did, I know hardly anything about it!

1.) Ventura, California:

2.)Ventura is basically the hidden jem of Southern California. Many people skip over it on their way from Santa Barbara to Los Angeles. Ventura has a mission that was settled by Spanish settlers, and is home to the harbor where the Channel Island ferries go to and from.
Ventura is also home to Surfer's Point, a popular spot among surfers [hence, the name].

3.) I certainly don't find it boring. I came from DeWitt, Michigan, a small, snobby community that was a suburb of Lansing. There was NOTHING to do in Lansing, so coming to a city where everything you need is roughly a five minute drive has been fantastic.

Not to mention, Santa Barbara is only 30 miles away, Los Angeles is about an hour drive, and the moutains for skiing are about 2 hours to the north (or to the east). This place is pretty great!

4.) I think I discussed it all...I really like Ventura. It's not as pretty or as wealthy as Santa Barbara, but it's a hell of a lot more affordable!

2. Tell us something we should know about it
3. no "it's boring" or "never comes here"
4. discuss about it!

1.) I'm originally from San Diego, CA. My dad was in the Navy at the time, and was stationed there. We moved to Chicago, IL a short time after I was born. I'm basically the only one in my entire family that wasn't born in or around Chicago.

2.) I think most people know something about Chicago, and usually it's something about our sports teams (or at least how they used to be). I can't think of anything offhand that is amazing though lol.

3 and 4 are honestly all kind of the same hehe. Chicago is a great city, and I've never really been anywhere I liked better. There is a lot to do, especially once you are old enough. Lots of shows, clubs, bars and whatever else might interest you. At the same time, I'm getting tired of it and want to go somewhere new. I guess everything great about Chicago just becomes standard fare if you've lived here all your life. If I was from some other city I'd probably have a lot more to say about it heh.

The weather can go either way (which is both good and bad, depending). Most of the time it's either way too cold, or way too hot. There isn't much of a happy middle depending on the season. I like the cold and rain, but it gets to be a little much here. The summers can be such hell, getting well over 100 something degrees (which isn't too bad until you consider all the humdity we get).

Anyway, I like it here... I've yet to see anyone else on the boards even mention being from IL, let alone Chicago, so that'd be interesting to find out.

We also have the great poet Robert Burns (Rabbie Burns.) The Glasweigin accent is very unique and if you were from a country outside of Britian, i think you would have no chance in making out what i'm saying, lol. Even people in the UK cannot understand what i say. We have great Patter and very funny, the Legend Billy Connolly is from Glasgow. I love Scotland and think it is a brillianta dn very unique place. It is small but is known largley around the world. Glasgow used to be the Capital of Scotland but was changed hundreds of years ago to Edinburgh. Our Football team (Soccer)isn'tvery good, but i think is rising with players such as Jamie McFadden. We have an american football team - The Scottish Clamores. I think i am the only Scottish Member on teh boards, as far as i know.

But Daddy lives down in Tampa where I spend Summers.

2. Uhh... Iowa produces 25% of Pork exports in the U.S. and is basically one giant cornfield with a hole here and there for a town.

3. Boring?? uh... yea... you could say that... unless you wander into the corn fields and run into a bunch of kids worshiping corn-cob crucifixes.

4. Discuss about it?? there's not much to discuss... it's corn and pigs...
