Chipped PlayStations

I would like to modify my UK Playstation. Has anyone ever chipped their Playstations or had it done at a game store? If so, how much did it cost?

I'm desperate to have it chipped so I can buy Chrono Trigger and other RPG's that weren't released in the UK.

Also has anyone modified their Super Nintendo so that it can play U.S. and Japanese games?

One more question. Does anyone know if Chrono Trigger or other RPG classics will appear on the Nintendo Gamecube or Game Boy Advance?
And will they ever be released in the UK?

Thanks in advance to anyone that can help.

(For the purposes of playing imports and not piracy).

Hmm, I had my PSX chipped solely to play the DDR games and all this stuff my friend brought back as gifts from Japan.

I can't believe they haven't released FF: Chronicles there yet, btw...

Chipping isn't that difficult, I did it myself and it only cost me 10 USD...but if your soldering abilities are questionable take it to someone who does and give them a clear picture of the soldering points.

It might be tricky for the UK PSX's because you guys have PAL and Japan and U.S has NTSC. I'm not clear on how that works out...you might need an extra converter or something, where in that case, just buying an American or Japanese PS might be better. Just do the research before you buy anything. Same thing may apply to the SNES as well, but I never needed to chip my system to play improts.

No word yet on a GCN or GBA version of the classics.

Anthology was FF5 and 6... Chronicles was FF4 and Chrono Trigger.

You could bypass all this stuff and simply buy a Pro Action Replay. You just plug it in the PSX port in the back of the system. It allows you to play imports and use cheats. I believe it also bypasses the whole PAL/NTSC thing as well (much like Freeloader on GC). You simply pop in a game that does work normally, let the Action Replay boot up... and then put in the import. You can get a spring which you can stuff under the door hinge on the PSX, so basically you can take as much time as you want swapping.

Datel is a UK company as far as I know, so they shouldn't be that hard to find. They are easily availible on the internet though, I got mine for like 10 dollars shipped.

If you have a newer model PSX without the port on the back though, I guess modding is the only other option.

In the UK, Anthology is FF4 and 5, and FF6 is sold on it's own.

As for the chip, I don't risk it on my PS2, mostly because I'm not such an avid gamer that I actually need a chip, so I'm not going to bother doing anything dodgy for no reason (I'd imagine the PS2 is far easier to mess up if it doesn't work right, too)

Chipping in the states isn't much, but it's impossible to find anyone who does it where I live. It's well worth it though. I have a bunch of games that were released in Japan and UK only, and I friggin' love those games. But if ou can find someone who does it, just pay the price. It's well worth it.

I read that Chrono Trigger and FF Tactics are to come out for the GBA.

I believe that mod chipping has been covered substantially in the past and Rico covers it pretty well in this thread. Additionally, Semjaza mentioned an alternative with the Pro Action Replay.

In case you haven't noticed, this is the Sony forum. I don't quite understand what relevance this has to anything Sony-related. lol. If you're interested in the GameBoy Advance and the Final Fantasy series, be sure to visit both the Final Fantasy forum and the Nintedo forum.

Unfortunately, I cannot allow this thread to remain open any longer.
