Maverick Hunters: Personification

Elite Squad sat in what appeared to be a lecture hall, but was in fact the briefing room of Maverick Hunter HQ. Looking around, it was clear to see there were familiar faces, and new faces alike. The team had changed alot in the past year. With the Death of Flash, Omega, the dismissal of Warlock, and Havocs it was like a whole new squadron. There were a few familiar faces, though. Demos, Nova and Chaos to name a few.

The other new recruits looked fairly normal... Except for one, up by the back by himself. This new recruit resembled Flash--VERY much. Green and grey colour scheme, same hair. He was very similar to Flash. His armour was like nothing ever seen before. His name was Reverb.

The door to the briefing room slid open. In walked Signas, followed by X. More familiar faces. They stood at the front of the room, arms behind their backs, very proper. After a few moments of silence, Signas spoke.

Signas: Good morning, Elite squadron. I trust you're all well? Good. As you can see, the new additions to the squad have passed all their training and are now certified Hunters, and will be accompanying you on all missions. You are, after all, all Elites. The best of the best.

Demos stood up, looking alot more relaxed that usual. He took his turn at speaking to the rest of the squadron.

Demos: And for those who didn't know, I'm your Commanding officer. You do as I say, when I say. But don't expect me to make your choices for you on the battlefield. I expect you to--

As Demos glanced around the room while talking, he too caught sight of Reverb. He immediately thought of Flash... He shook his head, and continued.

Demos: ...I expect you to be able to do that for yourself. You're all Elite, Superior. I look foward to working with all of you.

And with that, Demos sat down, taking a second glance at the reploid up in the back. Signas smiled, and saluted the squadron, before dismissing them and leaving the room himself.

After being dismissed, Demos silently walked through HQ, looking at the lawyers running about, and noticing the lack of Hunters. Sad, really. If Zero hadn't gotten in the way, maybe those lawyers would be elsewhere, and maybe, just maybe, those Hunters that died...back then...might have been avenged.

It was at this moment, as Demos continued walking around the base, that he passed the infirmary, seeing Zero getting a repair of some kind. Demos froze instantly, and stared at the Crimson Bot. Zero, hearing the footsteps outside stopping, turned to shiver at the sight of Demos. Zero knew that Demos was now an enemy of his...

Demos dashed off, anger suddenly swelling within him. Human emotions, while sometimes extremely annoying, could also prove to be helpful. But after a while, that anger subsided. By the time that happened, Demos was where he was heading for. Isolation.

Demos walked through the automatic door, the 'whoosh' of the aeronomatic gears unworking from the locked position sounding to the Tech inside that a visitor was here.

Demos didn't even bother to request permission. He had come this way for the past year everyday. He needn't check with a Tech for permission. This was routine.

Demos came to a stop at a darkened cell at the very end of the Iso block. His stool was still there, like always. He sat down, head bowed, not saying a thing...yet.

Havoc: "...How much longer now?"

Demos: "Not too much. A few weeks, since you've been on good behavior."

Havoc: "...Wonderful. A year's worth of good behavior and I get off a month early. Just peachy."

Demos: "Don't give up yet. You'll see combat soon. Signas officially reinstated the Elite Squad today...and I swear you will be in there with us, diggin in the trenches."

Havoc: "Mmmm..."

Demos: "Well...just keep your nose clean, and I'll try to get you out next time next week, ok? And then we'll get you back into training, and of course, get a psych. exam to show them that you are stable, like I know you are."

With that, Demos got up, and slowly walked down the dimmly lit hallway, that opposited the completely blackened-out cells, where his brother, along with other Hunters which had done the fitting..."crime"... His footsteps rang out, hollow and cold, against the polished concrete floors...

As Signas walked into his office, sighing meaningfully, he saw an odd thing. A human was holding his own against the 'droids! Impossible! Yet there was a human being wielding a longsword, fighting his way through the practice 'droids. And where was that new kid, the "prototype" that hadn't been revealed to him for somewhere around twenty years, that "Xion"? Suddenly, the kid in the courtyard pulled on his armor, showing himself to be Xion. Signas was impressed. Nobody except Proteus, Warlock, and Flash, not even Zero (who never thinks before he fights, thought Signas), had lasted against the level ten 'droids. Signas called the kid on his comm.

Hey, I think Warlock would've actually been able to stand up against those level ten droids. And no insult to you at all, but I think both X and Zero would've actually been able to hold their own against level ten droids too. They are just as powerful as most of us, even more powerful in some cases...

Meanwhile, outside the outer walls of Hunter HQ, a grizzly reploid, named Chill Grizzly after his ice attacks, was taking a slow walk through down the main street to clear his head. He was a Hunter, naturally, from squad 24, who had all just got back from clearing out a small settlement of Mavericks. He was the only one not to be hit, even despite his large size.

The main road leading up to the HQ was always full of hustle and bustle, hover convoys constantly passing through to supply the Hunters. Many of the lower level Hunters kept the road under heavy guard, most positioned in the two storey buildings that lined both sides of the street, all with a few pieces missing from past Maverick assaults.

Chill Grizzly turned off the main road, slowly walking down one of the alleys between all the buildings. There was rubble and litter all throughout the long, dark alley, something no one ever had time to clean up. There was the occasional clean up droid, but with so much rubble and so little of them nothing much ever seemed to get done.

So lost in his thoughts was Chill Grizzly that he didn't notice the faint 'whirring' sound of something hovering constantly behind him, always staying the same distance away. An oval droid of some kind, light grey, seemed to be following the Hunter intently, some kind of lens on it's front. Camera maybe? It was only when Chill Grizzly met a large wall of rubble that he had no intention of clearing that he moved around and finally spotted the droid.

At first he thought it was a clean up droid, or just perhaps a security one, keeping an eye out for anyone that could be causing trouble. But it was then he noticed not a signal marking on the droid. It may've been a simple misunderstanding, but Chill Grizzly just couldn't risk it.

Chill Grizzly: "SECURITY!!!"

The droid screamed in alarm, a high-pitched wail echoing all through the alley and beyond. It wasn't going to wait around to be caught though. It's master wouldn't be pleased at all. It quickly sped down the alley, shards of ice fired off by Chill Grizzly narrowly missing its grey armor. As soon as it exited the alleyway it quickly found itself under heavy fire from the buildings above, a mixture of bullets and energy pellets. It was only hit by a couple of bullets and an even smaller amount of energy pellets. It was built to be fast, and fast it was. Before anyone of authority could even arrive on the scene the droid was long gone...

Meanwhile, in the midst of the Badlands, inside a heavily guarded town were Mavericks and crime lords walked free, former Hunter and Elite Squad Commander Warlock walked, his once bright armor smudged by dirt, dust and mud, his once cheerful and happy face a depressed frown.

Things had been bad since the moment he'd been exiled from Hunter protected lands. He had only a small amount of money, the armor on his back and a Maverick Hunter Hover bike he'd stolen from the Vehicle Bay just before he left, an Omega Model. To him, the Badlands were the perfect place to run to. Deep in Maverick territory, far from where Hunters would harass him, and the best place to keep an eye on enemy movement. From here he?d be able to help the Hunters with guerrilla tactics, attacking Maverick stockpiles all over at night, setting explosive charges and watching from a distance as they blew sky high.

He hadn?t had the chance to attack that much though. He was too busy just trying to survive. Away from the relative safety of Hunter HQ, he wasn?t able to get the supplies all Hunters were given regularly. He couldn?t get free repairs and upgrades, he couldn?t get new weapons, vehicles to use, backup, nothing. Out here he had to survive on his own, and in a world such as this, it was very hard.

Rejected by the Hunters, mortal enemy of Mavericks and unable to get under protection of either faction. He?d rather die then become a Maverick, and the Hunters just didn?t care about him anymore. He was a faction dependant reploid without a faction to go to.

Slowly walking over to a thick titanium alloy door set a bit into the thick walls of a building, he waited as scanners slid out of the wall next to him and quickly checked his identity. They retracted, the door slid open and Warlock walked in.

What he had walked into was a workshop of some kind. His workshop. Simple droids were scattered around, some moving, others not, some in pieces, some fully built. This was all he had left now? And he was doing he best to survive.

Sighing slowly, Warlock walked over to a radio interception device, switching it on and then walking off. If there were any Maverick attacks been planned, or any Hunter assignments been started, he would know about it?

Akira crept along silently, his armor barley making a sound as he crawled through the tall grass. Soon, he crested a hill, over looking a small, rural town, filled with reploids. Reploids, with green and grey, and black and red armor..Warlock...Warlock and Flash. Akira unslung his sniper rifle from his back holster, and took aim on one of the many Warlock and Flash duplicates. With a resounding crack, the sniper rifle fired it's munition, and the Flash he sighted exploded in a shower of fluid and machinery. The Reploids around him began to run with terror, but were not quick enough to avoid Akira. Soon, the whole town was a ruin, bullet holes and dead Reploids everywhere...And for some reason, Akira felt proud....

Akira bolted out of his "sleep", his red eyes permeating the darkness around him.

Akira:What...What was that? That dream...It keeps happening...I don't understand...

Akira picked up his sniper rifle, and moved into a sitting posistion. Why his programmer had such a vendetta againts Flash and Warlock(although Akira's memory banks told him Flash was long dead), was quite beyond Akira...But he intended to find out, one way or another...And what better place to start, then the Badlands...

After the meeting had been let out, Bogard made his way back to his own room. As he walked through the many hallways, he saw into the open doors of other Hunters. Many rooms where covered in photos of friends, creators, and family. It seemed everyone had someone close. Everyone but Bogard. As he reached his own dorm, he opened to door to a room with completely black walls and a simple single bed. No pictures, no friends, no family. Origionally, that was how Bogard liked it. He was made a fighter, and a fighter has no need for simple social ties, they could just get in the way. However, he couldn't but feel a vast emptiness. The new emotions he gained from the AI circuits implated in him by the Hunters seemed to be causing quite the paradox for Bogard.

Bogard: No.....I must keep my head straight. Once the Mavericks pose a threat again, I cannot have anything or anyone in my way.

As Signas went on giving Xion a good talking to, Xion was busy staring at Roll. Suddenly, a red Z-Buster came crashing down on Xion's back.

X:ALIA IS MINE!!! BACK OFF!!!

Xion got up, blood dripping from his shoulder-blade. Zero backed off, seeing the blood through Xion's armor.

X:What ARE you? A reploid? A human? What?

Xion:I am a prototype built by Dr. William Light to be activated in the time of greatest need. I awoke twenty-one years ago of my own accord. I am a human/reploid combinant, though I call myself a reploid. I have human tissue, human abilities of reproduction, emotions, but reploid powers. I also know what it's like not to have a home, to be stuck in the middle...

Zero shut up as he saw the despair in Xion's eyes. He, too, had felt that way when he'd first lost X. He sighed and moved on, leaving Xion to battle against level fifteen droids, programmed to be more powerful than three Kaiser Sigmas each. This time, Xion fought them because he didn't want to live. He recieved a heavy battering before Warlock jumped in, shutting down the droids. He watched the kid bleed for a while before hoisting him up, carrying him to the med-bay. Xion let some tears fall to the ground as he realized someone did care whether or not he died. he just hoped it wasn't because he had to fight. Warlock mumbled something about insanity as he entered the medical center...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
OOC: I edited it as far as I could, dude. As for the level things, the only reason Zero has trouble is he NEVER THINKS in battle when he fights in the sims. Level ten isn't that big a deal on PHYSICAL body, it's more focused on the mind. I should know, I own the comics. As for level fifteen, THAT'S a bunch of Sigma data combined with Zero and X data....THAT is impossible to beat! And as for my structure, the armor is just removeable, as I said. Well, there you go.
...ElvenFoxKnight, have you even read any of the other sign ups, or even read some of the other posts in this topic.
Roll is dead. If you know anything about the X series, it's that Roll doesn't exist anymore. And if she does, it hasn't been known by X or Zero.
Did you even read part of the start of the sign up? Flash clearly mentioned that Warlock was pretty much fired from the Hunters and exiled to known Hunter protected lands. I don't exactly think Warlock would just be suddenly appearing in Hunter HQ.
And while it isn't much of a problem, I do find the idea that a human/reploid hybrid of some kind would be able to stand up to something like level 10 droids, something you said even Zero had trouble with. Xion may be part reploid, but with human bodies can only be pushed so far. Yes, it does appear Xion is more of a reploid, but still, he sounds more like a cyborg than a reploid. Ugh, I'm really tired so I'm having a bit of trouble explaining this a bit more but you have to admit it does seem a tiny bit farfetched...
OOC: Yeh, I RP kind of different...hope it's not 'gainst the rules or anything.
IC: Kurt put his paws and chin on one end of his Boomstick, watching the Elites leave the briefing room. He felt a surge of envy, then shook his head, trying to dispell it. Sighing, the Panda reploid manevered the stick across his shoulders, holding it on either side, and started to head for another part of HQ.
"Kurt?"
He glanced behind him to see another Hunter, and a friend of his, Bolt Skunk. The panda reploid offered her a grin. "Hiya!"
Grinning herself, she walked up to walk next to him. "'Lo. I saw you watching the briefing room."
Kurt looked away. "Um...maybe..."
She laughed, and ruffled his ears, Kurt batting at her arm half-heartedly with a paw. "You don't have any thoughts of leaving me behind in Squad 15 for the Elites, now, do you?" she asked with mock-sadness.
"Well...I...why do you want to know?" He peered at her suspiciously, although there was a smile on his face.
"Because...I do!" She smirked. "I'm going to head for the training room. You wanna come with?"
"Nah. I might catch up later, though."
"Suit yourself. See you!"
She trotted away, leaving the smaller reploid watching her for a few moments, then turning back towards the Elite room. With mixed feelings, Kurt shrugged the Boomstick across his back and moved towards his room.
I will be a part of you guys one day...not just the Hunters, but the Elites! he thought to himself. And I'll show everybody what I can do!
Feeling somewhat heartened, Kurt smiled cheerfully and quickened his pace.
Proteus woke suddenly. His eyes burst open and stared at the white space above. The ceiling, walls and floor were all white. And there were no discernable markings or etchings anywhere in the room. In the middle of the chamber lay Proteus, submerged in a pool of light blue liquid.
Hey lay under the surface, his eyes staring forward without blinking. And at first he felt completely cold and numb all over. But after a few minutes, warmth and feeling returned to his limbs.
Proteus blinked and slowly sat up. He looked down and saw a handful of optic nerves protruding from his chest and legs. The nerves were attached to a small cube that was sitting next to the pool. The cube had a small screen on its upper-most surface, which displayed a number of vital signs.
The large, white wall infront of Proteus began to fold open rapidly and without any sound. A young woman entered the room from a hallway beyond. As she entered, the opening in the wall closed itself again.
Dr. Karman: Hello, Proteus. How are you feeling?
Proteus looked around the room a little groggily...and finally shifted his gaze back to Dr. Karman.
Proteus: I-I'm alright. What am I doing here?
Dr. Karman: Please do not be alarmed. You are here because of your accident.
Proteus held his head. One side was throbbing -- he didn't feel any pain, as reploids were unable to feel such sensations. But he could feel the damage inside...
Proteus: I don't understand...what accident?
Dr. Karman: Oh...well er...you don't remember?
Proteus: No...
Dr. Karman sighed and brushed a lock of blonde hair from her cheek. She adjusted her glasses and pulled up a chair next to the pool.
Dr. Karman: You were on a training mission outside Hunter HQ. You were there with a couple of canine units...and an unknown reploid fired on you.
Proteus: What? I don't remember it...
Dr. Karman: Yes, you were hurt pretty badly. Several of your nervous sectors were severely damaged. You're lucky to be alive, Proteus.
Proteus: Heh, I guess that's the payback I get for having a different internal structure to other reploids...
Dr. Karman: Exactly. Your optic nervous system gives you some advantages over any other reploid in existence. But by the same token, you are more vulernable to certain attacks. It's a tradeoff...but you are no less valuable to Hunter HQ...
Proteus: Yeah, yeah. Spare me the "don't worry about your life-threatening injuries, you're still so valuable" crap...
Dr. Karman looked away. She knew what Proteus was talking about and it made her feel uneasy. Despite the fact that she'd been working at Hunter HQ for some eight years now, she still hadn't become as inhumane as some of the establishment's scientists.
Dr. Karman: I'm sorry Proteus. I understand how you feel...and I want to assure you that I'm doing all I can to take care of you.
Proteus: Why did they assign you to my treatment?
Dr. Karman: I guess because you're a unique case, Proteus. I've worked with reploid nervous systems before, especially the kind you have in your body. So perhaps they think I'm the most qualified.
Proteus: I see...
Dr. Karman: ...
Proteus: When do I get to see my friends? I want to get out of here...I hate it in here. If you want me to recover, this is not the best way to do it...
Dr. Karman: I'm sorry...but you'll have to remain here until your optic nerves are completely healed. This is a quarantine unit...if you travel outside, you may become over stimulated. That would further risk your health.
Proteus: So how long am I gonna be in here?
Dr. Karman: I don't know...maybe another two weeks.
Proteus glared at Dr. Karman.
Proteus: Two weeks?!
Dr. Karman: I'm sorry...
Proteus closed his eyes and lay back down in the pool. He didn't want to talk to Dr. Karman again...
Bogard left his room strapping on his Force Gauntlets. He began his trek across Hunter HQ to the main training facility. He caught bits and peices of conversations about some sort of droid that avoided security earlier that day. With the information he picked up, Bogard had become increasingly curious about the droid. He was sure it was a Maverick droid, otherwise it wouldn't have run. But why did it come here? What was it trying to do?
Overwelmed by these questions, Bogard detoured from his route to the training facility and headed for Signa's office. When he reached Signa's office, Bogard entered to find an Signa's office empty. He turned around, and walked directly into a gigantic bear Hunter.
Bogard - shocked Excuse me Grizzly. I did not see you there.
Grizzly - Its no problem. Is Signa here?
Bogard - No, hes out right now. What do you need to see him for?
Grizzly - That incident earlier with the droid in HQ. I wanted to see it he found out what is was all about.
Bogard - Interesting. I was coming to see him for the same thing. Come, lets search for him.
Bogard and Grizzly headed out through Hunter HQ in search for their leader, Signa.
Proteus sat up again. The room looked just the same as it had before. Proteus guessed that it was probably night time. His internal clock was a bit off -- but he felt that it was probably around 6 or 7 hours after Dr. Karman had entered the room.
All he knew was that he didn't want to be here any longer. He had to get out...and fast.
Proteus stood up in the pool and tore the optic nerves from his body. Immediately, the little cube next to the pool shut down. The screen went dark.
He stepped out of the pool and looked around. He remembered where Dr. Karman had entered the room -- from a special wall on the right.
Proteus approached the wall and touched it. He didn't feel any gaps or anything -- he had no idea how Dr. Karman got in.
Proteus: Hm...well, only one thing I can do.
He stood back and lifted his arm. He squeezed some of the hydraulic muscles in his hand, which activated his Adaptive Buster routine. Using his internal HUD (Heads Up Display), he cycled through a list of available modifications.
Proteus: Ahh, here we go. Spacial Disruptor.
Proteus lifted his arm, which immediately began to morph into the selected weapon system. The temperature inside the nervous system of his arm increased, giving the metal more flexibility. Individual pieces of metal lifted outwards and shifted position on his arm, creating an entirely new structure from his existing exoskeleton materials.
Proteus aimed his new cannon directly at the wall...and fired. His entire body shook momentarily, and after half a second of silence, an enormous red burst of energy erupted from the cannon's barrel. It effortlessly crossed the room and dived right into the wall, creating a massive explosion which sent shockwaves through the surrounding corridors.
Immediately, the installation's security alarm was audible. Proteus stepped through the partly-demolished wall into the corridor and made his way toward the barracks.
Kurt didn't know what had happened at first - one moment he was moving out of his quarters to see if Bolt was still in the training room, the next he was knocked off his feet from...something. Dazed, his first thought was that they were under attack - but no, it couldn't be!
He shook his head, standing up slowly, cautiously, the alarm's ringing through his ears. His black eyes looked around nervously, before sighting a reploid coming his way, but one he didn't know the name of - it didn't matter. He quickly trotted up to him.
"H-hey, mister!" he asked quickly, looking wide-eyed at Proteus. "Wh-what just happened?" He swallowed, not being able to stay still - his paws were fidgiting, his nose was twitching, his tail was flicking...
Obviously, the small reploid was quite...disturbed? Nervous? Wary? Among other things.
Leaning back on a nicely padded office chair, Warlock seemed to be waiting for something. His helmet was off, placed neatly on the shiny metal table in front of him, revealing short, black hair. His hands were resting on the back of his head, their fingers knit together. The black and crimson reploid seemed perfectly relaxed in the relative safety of his home and workshop.
After a short while he sighed, quickly checking the current time with his in built HUD (Heads Up Display, as mentioned by James earlier). Noting how long overdue his visitor was, he quickly changed his internal radio?s frequency, smiling when he heard the familiar high-pitched squeaks. Hoping not to surprise his little friend, he spoke calmly through his radio link.
Warlock: ?Report in X3.?
For a few moments there was silence on the other end, most likely because ?X3? was double checking the source of Warlock?s transmission, just making sure it was really his master, and not someone else trying to use his information for granted.
X3: *radio* ?All systems operational. Sectors A5 and C2 have received minor damage from Hunter fire.?
Warlock ?Hunter fire? Was your cover blown??
X3: *radio* ?Yes, master. I?m sorry.?
Warlock: ?Don?t worry about it. What information did you gain??
X3: *radio* ?Hunter security has been upgraded. No other information to report.?
Warlock: ?Roger that. Come back home X3. I?ll send one of your brothers out soon to continue the surveillance.?
X3: *radio* ?Yes, master.?
And with that all communications ceased from both Warlock and X3. Turning off his radio microphone the ex-Hunter sighed, before getting up from his chair and heading off to prep drone X7?
Proteus stopped and turned to the animal-like reploid.
Proteus: I had to get out of there...
Kurt: Oh, you were in isolation?
Proteus nodded. But he did not continue speaking. Instead, he continued making his way down the corridor.
Finally, the alarm stopped. The fire must have been contained, Proteus suspected. He continued making his way down the expansive Eastern Corridor of Hunter HQ. Eventually, he came to an enormous hub, which was littered with reploids of all shapes and sizes. This was the famous East Wing of Hunter HQ. On the other side of the hub was a large holographic sign, which said simply "Hunter Barracks".
Proteus made his way across the hub, eyeing the latest recruits as he did so. He remembered what it was like to be a new recruit...but now, that memory seemed so very distant.
Finally, Proteus found the entrance to his old room. Number 145. He pushed open the door and found something he did not expect.
An odd-looking reploid was sitting on a bed opposite his. He was reading the Hunter Manual. Proteus noticed several pieces of paper sticking out of various pages -- obviously this reploid was a keen student of the Hunter Headquarters.
Proteus entered the room and immediately, the reploid looked up and smiled. In that split second, Proteus nearly fell backwards. His eyes widened...
Reverb: Hello...I'm Reverb. What's your name?
Reverb continued smiling, as if nothing had happened. But Proteus noticed it -- this reploid looked very much like someone he had known years ago. Of course, it couldn't have been the same reploid...it simply couldn't...
Proteus: Hi...I am Proteus. Pleased to meet you.
Proteus leaned forward and shook Reverb's hand. Reverb pointed to the manual in his hand and made a face: :drunk: Proteus smiled and nodded.
Proteus: Yeah...not easy stuff, is it?
Reverb: Not at all...I've read it twice over and I'm still having trouble.
Proteus: Well, if you ever need any help...you're welcome to ask for my assistance.
Reverb nodded and smiled.
Reverb: Thanks Proteus.
Proteus nodded and walked into the ensuite. He looked at himself in the mirror. He looked the same as he always had...but something was different. It was intangible. Proteus' hair was a little longer now...but that wasn't it. Silent bolts of blue energy snaked through his hair quickly every few seconds. He looked closer...and saw the small titanium structures in his eyes...the microscopic hydraulic systems that powered his vision and HUD. Nothing here was different.
But he felt different, somehow...
Reverb noticed it first, probably because of his advanced radar and radio system. It was a message from Signas. All of Elite squadron were to meet in his office, at once. Some kind of mission. Reverb put the hunter manual down, and stood up. Proteus looked over at him. Reverb was just as tall as Flash, as well.
Reverb: Signas is calling us to his office.
Proteus raised an eyebrow, and just before he could open his mouth to respond, he too recieved the message on his HUD. He was puzzled as to how Reverb got the message quicker than he did, but decided to ignore it.
Proteus: Right. Let's go.
Proteus and Reverb filed out of the room, and walked briskly towards the Northern Wing of Maverick Hunter HQ. Once there, they took an elevator to the 19th floor--Signas' office. Entering the double oak doors, a strange sight in such times, they saw a few of the other Elite hunters who had already arrived.
Signas: Proteus? I thought you were in the isolated recovery room?
Proteus: I was... Released early.
Signas: I see. Now, to wait for the others to arrive.
Sitting by his long range radio intercepter, Warlock heard something he'd been waiting to hear. Well, it wasn't completely what he wanted to hear, considering it was full of garbled words and static, but it was close enough.
Warlock: "So, Signas has called the rest of the Elites. This should be interesting."
Quickly activating his radio, he began to speak rapidly to the drone on the other end of the line.
Warlock: "Sounds like they could be getting ready for a mission. I want you to take up a good position overlooking the entire HQ, okay? I want to k-"
Warlock: *radio* "-now if and when they leave, which direction they're heading in, what they're leaving in and anything other kind of information you can get for me. Got that?"
X7: "Yes!"
Warlock: *radio* "I'm sending over X5, X9 and X2 now. They'll attempt our infiltration plan, hopefully give us more information on what's going on inside. Got that?"
X7: "Yep!"
Warlock: "Good luck X7. Don't let me down."
And with that the conversation ended. Buzzing happily, the drone known as X7 floated closer to Hunter HQ...
Proteus and Reverb sat down infront of Signas' desk. Within moments, Kurt wandered in and sat next to the pair.
Signas: Right, let's begin shall we?
Proteus eyed Reverb and Kurt.
Proteus: What about the others?
Signas: We don't have time for that now, Proteus. If they wish to join this mission, they will have to catch up with you. Your coordinates will be tracked on our satellite system, so they won't have a problem finding you.
Proteus shrugged.
Signas: Given that you are the oldest member here, Proteus...you shall be the team leader for this particular expedition.
Proteus nodded.
Signas stood up and placed his hands behind his back. He frowned.
Proteus: ...What is it, sir?
Signas walked out from behind his desk and took some papers from it. He handed them to the three reploids. The papers were an incident report that had just been sent to him from one of the city's district officers.
Signas: One of the city's districts is experiencing severe devistation...
Signas leaned against the desk.
Signas: A large explosion was heard in the subway's 71st sector hub. The explosion has killed at least 180 people...and many more are injured. A reploid was seen leaving the area right before the explosion...
Signas frowned again and shook his head...
Signas: I don't know if there is any evidence down there...but I want you to travel to District 71 and investigate. Whatever this is...it is a new breed of attack. We've never faced an attack on civilians like this...the attacks have usually involved Hunter-related interests.
Proteus nodded and stood up.
Proteus: Where is that district again, sir?
Signas: District 71 is the codename we use for Nebula Heights. Nebula Heights is one of the city's northern-most districts...it's very large. The population there is well over 10 million. This attack was only small, compared to what it could have been. But it was clearly targetted at this area...and I want you to find out why.
Proteus nodded again and gestured for the others to follow him. The three reploids made their way down towards one of the HQ's underground transportation hubs, in order to find a suitable vehicle to get to the location...
OOC: If I didn't play solitary characters, I'd ask why nobody ever remembers I exist.... And I really have no idea what the hell all this is about, so someone just correct me if I make in mistakes that wildly contrast with this particular world or anything. Or if I can't get away with just this post.
IC: From his vantage point several hundred metres this way, Sinistrad had no trouble hearing the explosion. Or the resulting screams. His eyes darkened to black for a moment, before returning to their ethereal blue. He strode away from the blast, attracting no particular attention in the chaos. He never did. He was not particularly unusual, asiding the exotic armour design. He smiled grimly through his visor, his longsword hung across his back, his Armalite cannon at his hip. Neither of his hands strayed far from his weapons.
Arrogant, but never foolish, Sinistrad walked away from his latest attack as fast as he could.
It was not until he was on the outskirts of the city that the soldiers caught up with him. Several people, heavily armed, appeared out of nowhere around him. The soldier most likely to be the leader stepped in front of Sinistrad, who stood, arms folded behind his back.
Soldier: I don't know who you are, or what model, but you're definately in for it. Disarm, now.
Sinistrad absently hooked his cannon into his hand and spun it up. The sudden motion caused levelled weapons to jump slightly, as startled soldiers caught themselves just shy of firing.
Sinistrad: This is an Armalite. You have any idea what it does to someone like you?
Before he had finished speaking, he swept the cannon to the side, blasting a radius of death. Uranium slugs drove through flesh that may as well have been unprotected at sonic speeds. Bone and muscle tore and burst in primal agony. Blood splattered several seconds are the shots rang out. The bodies were in mutliple pieces, vital functions labouring to a halt. The only person standing was the one who had originally challenged Sinistrad.
Sinistrad: Still want to put it down?
Before the shocked human could react, Sinistrad's sword traced an elaborate design in the air, before darting down into the hapless man's sternum. The sword, coated in a layer of dark matter, split through armour and flesh like it wasn't there. Which it wasn't after contact with anti-matter. Carefully, Sinistrad returned the sword to its special sheath. What was literally a wand of obliteration was not to be trifled with. Sinistrad looked around, and left the area. He headed off towards his mountain eyrie, already planning his next attack. The civilisation that had created and abandoned him would suffer.
Xion awoke, remembering a black-and-crimson reploid saving his life. But that was impossible. Warlock was no longer allowed at Hunter HQ, at least, he thought so. He'd have to report it to Signas. And anyway, why would Warlock be here anyway? Why would he save a lowly prototype reploid? These questions raided Xion's mind as Dr. Karman walked in, pushing him down into the bed.
Dr. Karman:Oh no, you don't! And don't get any ideas about using that sword, AlarisX! Yes, I know your real name, Xion. Anyway, you have to stay in bed for two hours, then you have to see what you can do about getting Proteus back in bed. If his eyes aren't ready....
Xion:Damnit.....always the same, isn't it? Ah well.....what happened with Zero? Where is he?
Dr. Karman:He's in the sims, beating the tenth level. he's starting to use his mind, now. That'll be Hell....whenever I insult him subliminally, he'll understand it, now!
Xion and his "mother", for Dr. Karman had activated him by accident with a mental plea for help when she had been threatened by Sigma's virus, enjoyed a good laugh. Signas was watching, as he always was, to see how he was getting along. He would do just fine as a replacement.....just fine....but who would he replace?
OOC:If anything is wrong with this post, tell me. Anyway, I edited my last post and I'll bring something up in the future about Xion's physiology.
OOC: Signas is in his office, EFK.
As Proteus, Reverb and a few other Elites entered the Hunter HQ garage, Demos ran up behind them.
Demos: Sorry I'm late. Proteus, I'll be taking charge here. You understand.
Proteus: Of course.
Demos: We'll be taking Alpha. We can't take the underground route, even though it would be quicker. The northern access tunnel has been sealed to prevent the Reploids trying to get to HQ via it... Intelligence tells us that's their most likely plan of attack.
They continued through the garage, and reached the Elite squads Hover APC, Alpha. The same one used over three years ago, when the elite team was first enstated. Alpha has been upgraded and rennovated alot during its lifespan, and on the same note it's also taken alot of damage. But it still remains the state-of-the-art, top-of-the-line most advanced APC in the Maverick Hunter's garage. They climbed in, and left the door open, waiting for any other hunters who may arrive. Nova followed them, closing the door as he entered.
Nova: There's no time to waste. The others can catch up in Beta.
Demos: Alright, let's move out.
Alpha, controlled by its own complex AI, begins to hover, and quickly moves out of the Hunter garage, up a long angled corridoor. In front of it, a large steel door slides back, and allows Alpha to leave the facility. Once in the air, it shoots across the city, heading north, to District 71. ETA; 15:00.
Warlock: *radio* "What? Speak more clearing X7."
X7: "Transport Alpha is leaving! Transport Alpha is leaving!!
Warlock: *radio* "...Good work X7! Follow it, I'm already on my way!"
X7: "Yes yes yes!!"
Whistling eagerly, X7 quickly begins to hover after the transport, darting in and around buildings and drawing quite a bit of attention...
Meanwhile, just outside of the city of Calablac, the city in which Warlock resides, a Hunter Hoverbike, an Omega Model, streaked across the barren land. The fastest model available to the Hunters, and one with restricted use to only the highest ranked Hunters.
Grinning to himself, Warlock gunned the Hoverbike to even faster speeds as he sped towards the Hunter city...
Xion sat up grudgingly after the two hours passed. He went in search of Signas to get his orders on where to go. If he got latrine duty again, he would follow the Mavericks' example and get his hands soiled with Hunter....was it blood or motor oil? Whatever it was, if he got latrine duty again, his hands would be stained with it!
Akira finally reached the Badlands, just as a dirty figure in red jetted by him on a hoverbike. Akira turned to yell, but the rider was already to far gone.
Akira climbed up a rusty old fire escape to the top of one of the buildings, and used his enhanced vision to scan for Warlock, but didn't find him. Akira heard buzzing behind him, and turned to see a tiny robot staring at him. Akira held the robots gave for a few seconds, then lept at it, igniting one of his saber's blades. He arched the blade down through the robot, splitting it in half.
Akira leaned down to examine the pieces, and saw the number "X5" inprinted on one of it's curcits. Extingushing his saber, and picked up the voice comm chip for the robot. If anyone called X5, Akira would awnser...
Not in this RPG, he's not. This isn't a comedy RPG, EFK. And latrine duty? I'm sure the Hunters have janitors... Besides, you're supposed to be a Hunter. Hunters do not get latrine duty.
----------
Reverb stands at a window in the APC, looking as the city as they pass overhead. He hasn't seen much of it, Nebula heights included. He'd heard a bit about them, not much though. Apparently they were a beautiful range of mountains, often overlooked at night by a beautiful aurora, from which Nebula heights got its name. The mountains also featured many plateaus, on which were built many upper class homes, surrounded with picturesque lakes, waterfalls, and forests. Nebula heights was without a doubt one of the most tranquil and breathtaking places in the city, if not the world.
Reverb smiled at the thought of it. He liked the sound of a place so peaceful. He moved away from the window, and sat back down in his seat. He looked at the person opposite him. Black armour, white markings roughly scored into his arm. His face was young, but his scars and tattoo told otherwise. Reverb stretched out his arm to the Hunter.
Reverb: Hi. I'm Reverb, I'm new to the Elites.
Nova: Hello, my name's Nov--
As Nova extends his hand, he immediately recognises Reverb's similarity to Flash, as does everyone else. He pauses, and then continues.
Nova: --Nova. Pleased to meet you, Reverb.
The two shake hands, and begin conversation. After a minute or two, Proteus sits down next to them. They're talking about their pasts, and furthermore, their experience in battle. Soon, Demos and Kurt joined the conversation as well. They managed to learn quite alot about each other, which was good. Reverb was fascinated learning about everyone's past. Of course, Reverb didn't have much to tell anyone.
Reverb: I don't even know how I was created. It's kinda weird, really.
The others nodded, agreeing with Reverb. As they grew silent, the APC began to descend. They had arrived at District 71. Softly, the APC set down, on a deserted street. It had been closed to the public. The cities Armed Law Enforcement Division (ALED) had cordoned off the area, and were all patroling the border of the site. ALED was made up of primarily Cyborgs--Part Robot, part Human. The Cyborgs were a very prejudiced race, they believed they were superior. Everyone knew that the Cyborgs controlled the ALED, but no-one spoke of it.
The area where the explosion had occured was obvious. A large apartment building was half-demolished, and a Subway-access building was torn to shreds. The trail of destruction followed down it.
Demos: Demos, Commander of Maverick Hunter Elite Squadron. Tell your men to clear out, we've got this under control.
ALED Sergeant: Actually, I think we'll stay.
Demos: Haha. But seriously. Move out.
ALED Sergeant: Listen, Commander, accounting how many times you Reploid idiots screw things up, I think we'll wait around and mop up your sorry asses after your little Tin-can squad gets blown to piece--
Everyone flinched as Demos snapped casually, showing no sign of anger or discontent as he picked the Sergeant up by the collar, and tossed him into the ALED Truck, denting the side of it. The ALED Sergeant slid down, unconcious. Demos flexed his wrist.
Demos: Actually, I'm a Titanium-alloy can, you witless ****.
Demos spun around, leading Reverb, Proteus, Nova and Kurt with him down into the Subway station. Reverb was thouroughly impressed with Demos' cool, calm misdemeanor. His strength and strong-headedness were both admirable.
Proteus: Let's see how far the rabbit hole goes..
