Terrified

Well, most of you should know that I'm in drama. Many of you know I'm currently involved in a production, and a handful of you know that we open torrow night.

Now, I love acting. I really do. And I know my lines frontwards and back, as does the rest of the cast. [Their lines, I mean. Not mine. Though they prolly know mine, too....] I have never been one prone to stage fright. I don't get nervous before performance. Well, the last thirty seconds before I go onstage are never pretty, but other than that, I've never had a problem. There's no good reason, nor any precedent, for me being stressed, worried, or nervous about Perfomance.

So why am I terrified about tomorrow night?

Hey, effort is only effort when it begins to hurt, I guess.

I don't know exactly why you're terrified this particular time. Maybe this play demands more than your past performances. Something about it has to be distracting you, because fear is a distraction of the mind. Does this play hold any value over the other ones that you were in?

Whether or not it does, doesn't entirely matter. Even if the answer isn't apparent and you don't discover the reasoning behind the feeling, just keep in mind that fear can actually be a good thing; it can motivate you to a better performance because it shows that you care about what you're doing. I mean, challenges can be stepping stones or stumbling blocks. It's all in your perspective.

Maybe you're becoming normal? ;)

Maybe it's because it's an open night torrow, and you're playing a bigger part than usual? If not bigger part, maybe a more important part? Or maybe it's because it's an important production, or something depends on this production?

I don't know... all I know is that I can't stand the way they taught drama at our school while we had it as compulsory....

Natural human behavior. What if you mess up, what will people think about you, is your costume going to rip, are you going to slip and break something, (in a musical case) are you going to mess up a note, worrying is something everyone does. Thus arrives the terror, as worry gets shoved over.

However, even though you get me up on stage for acting and I faint (well, ok, I haven't (yet), but keep me up there long enough and I think I will), I can sing on stage. Which is why I'd love to do a musical. Especially Cats, but the costumes (and plot line, and number of characters) are way to complicated for a dinky (or not so dinky) high school to pull off in the time alloted. Why Cats? Because it's more singing than actual speaking. And I just love Grizabella's parts. But I will try out for a musical when I become a junior. I will TEACH myself to get over my fright. I WILL.

I get the same feeling of impending doom every time anything singing related happens. Ish natural.

If you don't get a little nervous, or a little terrified, then you aren't putting any effort into it. At least that's what I believe. Trust me, you'll get over it once you loosen up and unstiffen once you begin. Heck, I had to read my own poem in front of my class on Wednesday. I just did it, even though I was nervous. I stuttered a little bit and numerous other things, but I did it. And that's what matters in the end: You had enough guts to do it in the end.

I guess it could depend on how important this performance is... or who might be coming to see it even. It's hard to say what a reason could be since I don't know much about the importance or situations involving it.

There was a period of time where I had complete stage fright. I have NO idea what brought it on, but it was just kind of suddenly there. I never had a problem before, or after that time. I still don't get it heh. I managed through it pretty quickly though, and I think the problem was due to a lot of outside factors. Maybe that's what's affecting you as well.

Actually, I wasn't upset about anything in particular...that I was aware of, at least. And performance was great. It was just very strange, and rather upsetting, for me to be so stressed about something I'm usually not stressed about.
