Transformers: Robots in Disguise

I was wondering what people who saw the new series of Transformers actually thought of it. It seems to me like they slapped in a few anime characters. seen as most of the main characters have that "anime style" and the average person looks like old school Transformers.

Apart form that, I think the new series has been right up there with the others, I thought some of the new characters such as Skybite, really made the show

And what about the constructacons being the 'build team' o_O

I think that they both have thier strengths and weaknesses, there seems to be a lack of great characters such as Starscream the traitor being Scourge. However, such brilliant characters like Skybite make up for the lack of Starscream, and Omega 1 (the huge rocket) is made up for by Fortress Maximus (also in the old show)

I heard also that Starscream will be in the forthcoming Transformers: Armada. True?

Anyway, what do you think?

I apologize if this thread has been done before.

I think it's a decent show, but has some really big shoes to fill. The original Transformers (although incredibly cheesy) is regarded as the only "real" transformers by some people, so most people refuse to give any of these new Transformer series a chance.

When you get right down to it, the new Transformers series is a good show. So is Armada (which I think might be better)

RiD and Armada don't compare to Beast Wars and the original, IMO.

RiD is interesting but a bit "kid-friendly" for my taste. SkyBite was a great character until they turned him into a goofball. But I do love teh spin they did with Ultra Magnus' personality. I always though UM was a bit of a jerk despite how kind he has proven himself to be (watch the way he acts when he has the Matrix of Leadership in the movie). And I'm pretty sure he has some pent up anger after Hot Rod was revealed to be the one who would open the Matrix and "light our darkest hour" and not him (I would be). RiD took that to a whole new interesting level. I find it wierd that he and Prime were brothers though.

The RiD Decepticons were just as classic as teh originals, and we finally saw Galvatron again. I dislike the small role given to the Spy Changers (who included the RiD version of Ironhide), but I do like those little "gems" they put in the show (Grimlock was a part of the build team. The Decepticons resemble the Combaticons from G1 but their combined form is Ruination, not Bruticus, and the RiD version of Fortress Maximus).

I despise the ending. It reminds me too much the equally horrible ending to Digimon 02, were teh feelings of kids save the world. Kids could stop Fortress Maximus with their feelings and gave Omega Prime a Rainbow Sword to defeat Galvatron. I also do not like the idea of the characters having to call out the names of their weapons and attacks. And though the Diaclone and Microman toys that the original Transformers were based on were designed by the Japanese, I can't get used to the overly bulky designs given to any of the characters in RiD or Armada, with the exception of Scourge, who looks exactly like a black G1 Optimus Prime (fitting since his Japanese name is Black Convoy and Prime's is Fire Convoy).

Armada is an improvement. The teams are rather small though (3 Autobots, four Decepticons) and they brought back Starscream and Cyclonus. But Cyclonus is a cowering, butt-kissing wimp, and Starscream hasn't displayed any of his trademark deception, with the brief exception of his first obtaining of a Mini-Con. Once again the Bots are too bulky for my taste, though I like the "Battlebase Prime form" a bit. The show has better animation than RiD but the story line is too Pokemon-esque with every character trying to gain a Mini-Con to be more powerful. Why would anyone like Megatron or Prime need a tiny little robot to get more power anyways? All-in-all "Beast Wars" (the CGI version by Mainframe) and its spin-off "Beast Machines" (though greatly despised by most Transfans) are my favorites of all the TF series.

I thought that the Decepticons more resembled the Combaticons, except for Scourge, who looked more like those vehicle Decepticons (autocons?).

Don't worry, apparently Starscream's trademark deception will be a factor later on in Armada (transformers.com)

I also thought the teams were a little small in RiD, however, They are even smaller in Armada. Remember G1 and G2, there were heaps of Autobots, Decepticons, Dinobots, Constructacons, and Combaticons to name a few..

I feel that Armada will be more Digi-esque. Like the Transformers were the tamers and the Mini Cons were Digimon?

I liked the inclusion of the Predacons Dark Scream and Gas Skunk. But I don't like the storyline. Like Pokemon, you could almost watch them in any order and not get confused- Megatron sends bad guys out, they get blasted by either Optimus, the Autobot Brothers or some character introduced that episode and run away. Every episode. And the characters weren't written very well. I agree with shadow- it ain't a patch on BW, BM or the original, despite the fact that they're better designs of transformers than the 80's lot.

I would have to say that the numbers of bots are just horrid. 3 .vs. 4, come on.

Maybe because I was a big fan of the original back when it was still new, I dont have the memory I should, but I thought there were dozens of bots.

I also think the animation is a little funny. I think they should have tried a different style that would have made it stick out from the rest of the "new age" kids shows.

In my opinion, this was just a chance for big wigs to bring back an old show and make money off a new generation of kids.

They should have waited another 10 years, that way the original fans would be old enough not to see this smudge of dirt on the originals image.

All in all, its an ok show, but for my taste, I think the new he-man did a much better job of bringing back an original.

btw, beast wars was a great show, I thought that was worthy of the transformers name. armada on the other hand...

The original Transformers series did have dozens of bots. I'm not sure it's such a bad thing to have fewer, though. Otherwise things get too disjointed and every episode is just trying to create/introduce a new character. Still, it would have been nice to have seen Scavenger (even though the repaint was produced after the series).

I haven't seen Armada, but I didn't like the look of the designs much. Starscream looked okay, but I don't like Optimus, Megatron or Laserbeak. I think the RID designs are better.

Another thing that makes me laugh in RID is the guns- Omega Prime has this massive minigun/cannon shoulder set, and the lasers fly out with a little 'tweet'. That's bad FX dubbing, in my opinion. The're about 20 feet tall some of them! Big noises, please! And the Gennai sound-a-like train got annoying sometimes, too. But it's still fun to watch when you're waking up or going to bed. You need to have your brain switched off to enjoy it.

yah, when you really think about it, The original Transformers series seemed to build their characters alot better, even though RiD had far less characters to worry about.

I am trying to hire out the original movie, so I can get a good dose of Old School action ;)

If only i could use my special psychic ability to transpirt Skybite into it. He was cool

Well, after watching the movie, all I can say is, old school Transformers definately beats the new ones way out :p

I think it's a classic moment when they defeat unicron the way they do. Long live Generation 1 & 2 Transformers!

Gah, Anything but Armada! It's like they spliced Transformers and Pokemon by adding the 'Mini-cons' who give the user complete power for some unexplained reason. And what's more, if those things are so powerful (powerful enough to win the war), why could the respective sides only spare three, four troops a side? Stupid.

they can't get them in the right order on DVD. The first volume had some episodes on it which weren't the first five. They were that last five. Grr... it really annoys me when they do that. It makes trying to see a series in order very difficult.

I saw an advert for Robots In Disguise figures. It was terrible. A disgrace even to RiD. :p

No no. I mean the UK release. I is English. Those ones are fine. Or at least, they should be. They're very different to the ones we have.

Maverick Entertainment or whoever really screws up the UK DVD releases of Transformers. The Movie DVD was terrible. I wish I'd imported now.
I see. Thanks, kinda gave me a scare for a minute.

Lets say RiD was not that great I felt like it was rushed just to give Fox another Transformers show but. The only thing I see now is Optimus with that super mode and I think it makes him seem like a weak fighter to Megatron who is all powerfull now these days in Transformers. As for armada I find it a lot better the only thing that is missing is the old 20 robots insted of the 3 on 3 basketball battles.
